Well the new series of Gladiators started on Sky One and I have to say what a disappointment. I thought it was a really tamed down version of the original show. I feel they tried to have the same appeal but changed too much. Obviously the Glads would change, but the music, the set, the games were all too different and didn't help to create a good atmosphere as before.

The Gladiators seemed to offer little resistance to the contenders, and the games seemed a lot easier. Powerball being the prime example. The balls seemed easier to handle with larger buckets and less ruff and tumble.

Even the eliminator seemed tame, with the travelator so slow my Nan could have run up it backwards.

I didnt watch it but have seen a clip of the Gladiators on you tube.

Has anyone noticed that a few of the Gladiators names are coaster names? Oblivion, Inferno, Tornado, Enigma, Predator  Surprised

I think they have missed a few classic names like:

Caterpillar
X:/No Way Out
Pinfari death Machine

Also, they could have had a gladiator called G-Force, who slowly keeps crushing you as the battle goes on . . .   Wink

Or a gladiator called Colossus whos shakes you to death   Wink

I'm sure theres more . . . haha  Very Happy

I watched it with my son, who thought it was fantastic. I, on the other hand, was of the same opinion as Bluea61.

The whole revival of Gladiators is based on the US success. During the writers strike they needed something simple that would attract the audience and shut them up. They dragged in names like Hulk Hogan and Matt Morgan for the new series.

The UK have seen this and now want to capitalise on it all.

They really need a Wolf Character. You can dress up any eye candy in Gladiator gear and make them appealing. lol You need a good bad guy to create an atmosphere and make it amusing. They should have made him the presenter or something?

Wolf rules, the bad guy always wins!

Wolf is eating children? Awsome lol

Or is he raising little wolf cubs?

I wonder if those kids could wip the backsides of the new Gladiators.

We need a rulebreaker baby. Authority always needs to be tested innit! lol

Fair enough

Was only quoting what I heard on the radio, which is why I put apparently and a winky face. It's my local station, they always get things wrong  Laughing

After looking around a bit I think that maybe this is what they were thinking of:

Quote:
According to a report in the Sunday Mirror, his wife once owned "Chipmunks Playground and Cafe", an indoor adventure playground for 3-12 year olds, now sold.

He tried to do the whole Wolf thing but failed miserably. They should have stuck with the original set, games and music and just had new Glads. Unless we could of had some out of retirement. Jet maybe  Very Happy

I found it very dull. In todays age it's just too tame and lacked pazzazz. The games just looked dated. Of course it could be that I'm 10 years older and out grown it but I'd hoped for more from it.

I thought new Gladitors was ok..not as brilliant as the old one, but then they couldn't copy it completely, they had to update it somehow!

Didn't like Oblivion though, he was trying to hard too be Wolf and noone can replace him hehe!
