Good idea - maybe it'll provide some much needed investment for the park!

Bad idea - Â£5 to walk around? Hrrrm...

I think its a good idea tbh.

Blackpool is a dying resort at the moment and the pleasure beach can no longer rely on it to bring trade in, hence the reason why BPB are doing this and going it alone away from Blackpool so to speak.

They are trying to get a better class of visitor in to the park and the only way they will be able to do this is to stop the drunks and chavs coming on who just want one or two rides and make a nuisance of themselves in the mean time.

If they succeed in driving them away and bringing a better quality visitor to the PB then it will be a day out venue like Alton or Thorpe park is.

As for the Â£5 charge, well bag carriers going to Alton or Thorpe have to pay the full price but at BPB it will only be Â£5 and with a decent selection of rides thrown in. Where else could you get a full day out for that amount? People with show tickets will also be granted free access to BPB to have a wander round as well.

I think its a good idea, there are always some people who you wish weren't there and hopefully this will put them off going. There were a group of people in th queue in front of us on Valhalla and they'd had a lot to drink and were pushing each other around. You just don't like to see it.

The more I think about the idea, the less I am convinced of the benefits.

£5 does not sound much - but for a family with 2 grandparents who do not ride - and possibly one of the parents too, that figure becomes £15.

I also noticed that the mimimum spend on ride tickets is now £20. I had not been intending to be there on the Sunday, but decided to accompany a friend and his young daughter. After a lot of deliberation, they both ended up with ride bands but I didn't since I will be returning in 2 weeks time. (OK, OK - so I'm a wuss lol) When they decided to ride the monorail, I said I would buy tickets and ride with them - but changed my mind when I realised it would cost £20 for the priviledge.

And if the guys in the Valhalla queue were riding anyway, I don't see the £5 premium detering them. It is the families that pleasure beach seems to want to attract that are on the tighter budget. But perhaps that is the real intention - deter the people who won't spend much money.

Obvioulsy, time will tell. But I think it will change the atmosphere there beyond all recognition - and not in a good way.

I guess this will be one of those will it wont it ones that we all have good arguements for and against but in the end I guess we will have to wait and see. It less about how us as enthusiats will take it but the GP who go as they are less likely to buy the wristabands.

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea as it means that people don't have as much access to the park as they do now...And for older/less able members of a group, the idea of having to pay £5.00 just so they can join their friends would probabally make them resent ever going to the Pleasure Beach. If I was to go to BPB with my family, my father and I would purchase wristbands (With the admission included) as we both love coasters and thrill rides. However my mother and her mother - As non-riders - Wouldn't be keen on the idea of having to pay just so that they could join my father and I on our day out. Sad

Thinking back to my first ever trip to Blackpool - Around about June 1996CE - I didn't have nearly enough money available to ride as much as I wanted, and could only afford a single book of 10 "A" tickets (I don't think they had the wristbands back then) for the whole week. However, being able to walk freely around the 'Beach at will allowed me to see what I wanted to ride and plan out my riding pattern to make sure that I got the most enjoyment out of my limited book of tickets. Smile

A lot of pubs and nightclubs manage to keep Chavs and other "undesirables" out through the simple application of a dress code. Assuming that reducing anti-social behavior in the park is the primary intention of this plan, surely BPB would be better off having a simple dress-code that prohibits tracksuits, football colours and other clothing often "associated" with anti-social groups, along with the usual denial of people under the influence of drink/drugs etc? Smile

Another idea could be to have a complete ban on bringing alcohol into the park (Although I'd imagine such a policy already exists) and ensuring that each guest - Tracked through their ride wristbands - Is only allowed to buy a limited number of drinks on park (Say; three) during each day of their visit. Cool

Lets face it if you're going AT or Thorpe thats exclusively what your going to do. Blackpool has many more attractions and some people may stay away if the prices become too steep.

£5 just to get in walk around...Come on! Whats so wrong with the way it is now? At least it gives you a choice. Crying or Very sad

But it gives the public the option to pay £5 if they aren't sure of going on the rides with their families. When they get into the park after walking around with their family, they see a few things they would go on, they then buy prehaps a wristband or tokens (If they will have them still).

Meaning the park will make more money, meaning more rides!!!

I feel it is a good idea, say you took your family to the park, the mother was pregnant the last thing you would want to do is pay £30 to get in (at Merlin Parks) and be bag lady or look after children that are to small/scared to go on the rides.
