|

Hail all!
I was giving some thought to merchandise ideas at Loopathon, and it suddenly hit me that - Although there's a lot of Club merchandise already - One obvious thing that we'd seemed to miss was Club branded USB keys (AKA: Thumb drives).
I mentioned the idea to Graham whilst we were there, and he said that the fluctuating cost of USB media made the idea an unworkable one for the time being. However I though it would still be worth posting here for further discussion, just in case anyone has a different take on the idea, or may even know a product and supplier that could offer the Club a good and stable price!
--------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------
Following on from my initial idea, I also came up with a few possible types and model names of USB drive that the Club could offer it's members. Please click thumbnails below for full-size versions (Assuming Imageshack decide not to be dappy about remote linking again!)...And as always, other member's comments, suggestions, feedback and constructive critiqué are encouraged!
- The Smiler:
A small, very affordable and easy to use pen drive - Ideal for storing trip notes, reports, and a reasonable number of digital photos. A perfect choice for those who like to keep things short, sweet, and straight to the point.
. - The Andy Hine MBE:
What is Wooooooooooooooood? This functional and eco-friendly drive is perfect for storing and transferring trip reports, draft copies of AIRtime, ideas for the next trip over the Pond, and perhaps even a few designs for stable and reliable types of coasters that certain UK parks seem to keep forgetting about!
. - The Death (Type I):
Perfect for the more brutally minded, this drive is specially engineered to make all cut & paste, slice, sever, and decapitation operations happen with a speed and efficiency never before seen in computing! With plenty of capacity for longer trip reports, backups of each report, large archives of low res mobile camera photos, and all of your favourite Black Metal albums...This drive is perfect for those budding archivists, night-owls, and Gore loving Bladewielders amongst us all!
. - The Death (Type II):
A slightly more sedate and practical design geared towards I.T. professionals and backup keepers, this drive is the first to feature Death's "Virgin Drains" compression technology (Patent pending) that allows for much denser than normal storage in the same amount of physical space. Inspired by Virgin Trains services on a typical Friday afternoon (And the techniques employed to load those trains to ten times intended capacity) this drive boasts features that will allow repeated archival of even the biggest of home and SOHO networks in Europe!
. - The Nemesis Nick:
After many years of extensive research, development, and collaboration between Death, Dell, and Intamin AG; We are pleased to now offer the ultimate in USB storage solutions. Featuring an unprecedented storage capacity through the intelligent use of both Virgin Drains and RAID 5+5+5+5 technologies, the "Nemesis Nick" is capable of meeting the storage requirements of almost every computer user and corporate in the World!
A new and improved TEoU4 (Terabyte Ethernet over USB IV) protocol allows for extremely fast data transfer in excess of 1,000Gb/sec, and is capable of transferring over a hundred 40Gb BluRay disc images - Or c. 75% of one RCCGB trip report by Nemesis Nick - Per hour. Farewell for now...And looking forward to reading everyone else's suggestions and comments - Especially those regarding the above!
