Went today and was really cool to see all the stuff and the other set of steam yachts in the world.

Most stuff was around £2.50 - £3

There are actually three sets of Steam Yachts currently operational. The ex Harry Lee (now Saunders family) Savage set that was at Dorset, Carter's Savage set and a single set built by a showman in the the early 1900's driven by a former Burrell steam roller that is at the Hollycombe Steam Collection at Liphook in north east Hampshire (see http://www.hollycombe.co.uk/).

There are also two sets under restoration. Jack Schofield has been working on a Foster set for many years and Russell Cook (who owns the Skid that goes to Dorset) has got a very early Cartwright set - Cartwright came up with original concept of the steam yacht and had various associated patents in his name.

Having double checked the Scrivens/Smith book on Steam Yachts I got things slightly wrong.

Jack Schofield's set is the Cartwright one and the engine/boiler were built by Robey.

Russell Cook's is another Savage set but is very incomplete with what parts he started with coming from a number of sources.

Finally there's another set of yachts travelled by Dorman Brothers I forgot about which are now diesel powered and like the one at Hollycombe have to be manually controlled (the Savage ones have automatic valve gear once a reasonable swing has been built up manually).

I guess I'm one of the few to have ridden all four operational sets. If you are really interested in the subject then I can thoroughly recomend the book which covers the development of the concept and the history of all the Steam Yachts up tyo the present day (well about 18 months ago).
