Hi All!!!!

Many thanks for all the great comments that have been left here over the last week or so!

I am really pleased that you all love the new site and format - it makes the effort all worth while when things are received favorably.

Anyhow, things havn't stopped by any means.... any regulars to the site will notice small changes here and there as it's still progressing.

Since the launch, the following updates have been made...

Ski Trip information now on Trips 2009 Page
Meet the Crew Profiles Updated to those who supplied me info - more coming this week
New Ski Trip Logo added to Ski Trip Info
New look & design Membership form
    Loopathon Trip Report Now Available
Loopathon Trip report link added to homepage
Other tweaks to make things look better, or correct typos
New Pages not live yet - but coming soon!!

In the background, we also have a few 'special' Club Logo's coming for the site, to celebrate certain calendar events.... so make sure you visit the site on Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas etc Smile (and we're not trying to copy google!  Shocked )

Anyway, once again - many thanks to Andy Huckle who's been working hard on the new graphics for the Logo's and Dave Perry for the Loopathon trip report, and his work on all the other reports that he'll soon be doing.

Dave being the official club photographer will be responsible for the trip reports pages and pictures contained therein, however we want members to actually write the reports. We have set up a new email address for trip reports, and Dave will be posting a note on here soon for help as he re-creates all the club trips on the website going back over the years.

Finally, thanks again for all the great comments - i'll do my best to keep up the hard work and bring you a website that you're proud of.

Matt

P.S. One of the new pages coming is called (for now at least) 'Website Waffle' - this will be a page (under the Miscellaneous menu) where I can announce updates on the site, let you know whats happeneing, and have an update log so 'at-a-glance' you'll be able to see whats new. I'll post more when this is ready!

Thanks Matt

I have posted requests elsewhere on the message board but i'm looking for trip reports from club members to use on the site and will also take into consideration any photo's you have too as I can't be everywhere! and some of you are bound to get that magic moment which'll be great for the site.

Due to work restrictions I can't make every club trip so need your help here.

Stephen Frost has sent me some great pics from this year's Summer Bash which I couldn't attend but I would also like a trip report to go with them. If you have anything for me then please get in touch. You can e-mail me at trips@rccgb.co.uk with any reports and photo's.

Your help is appreciated.

Dave

There are no plans for this on the new site as profiles can be handled through Facebook.

Hi there,

When we took the decision to remove the members profile section of the site, it was due to several reasons.

Firstly, the section is terribly difficult and time consuming to maintain, and keep up to date. The nature of our site does not provide for user logins, therefore all maintenance would have to be done by myself by exchanging info, pictures and all updates to every member by email. As you will all hopefully agree, noone wants out-of-date info displayed.

Secondly, there are all sorts of rules and regulations regarding storage of Personal Information, and Data Protection etc. Although we could have designed the page to not include the information effected, and made adequate disclaimers, it's an area that would also absorb time in regulation small print.

And thirdly, with the advent of Social Networking sites, such as FaceBook, MySpace etc. it is very easy for members and users (if they want their profile information displaying), to set it up and join the Official RCCGB Facebook group to do just this function. This way, the updating, content and most importantly Privacy settings are managed and maintained by the member in question.

I hope you find these reasons acceptable. I appreciate that some members may miss this area, but when I last looked at it before I took the old site down, it was terribly out of date and didn't do itself justice.

While i'm here, can I point out to all Facebook users an excellent article that has been put together by Sophos - one of the leading anti-virus suppliers, that will help you configure your Facebook Profile security settings to help avoid being a victim of identity theft due to default weak settings. These settings help lock down your information away from random strangers, but doesn't prevent you from being sociable with your friends/groups etc.

This article can be found at : http://www.sophos.com/security/best-practice/facebook-profile.html

Thanks,
Matt.

I am glad you got it working... just hit re-fresh to update the page as previously mentioned.

Anyway, i've changed the logo again Smile

On the next update, i'll add some code to the homepage to force a reload so hopefully you wont get this trouble in the future.

Thanx

I updated the website yesterday with the report from last year's USA Trip. Just before that I posted the Blackpool Bash 2008 Report so if anyone who is planning on going this year and hasn't been to a bash before then take a look at the fun you have in store!!

The Summer Bash 2008 report will be next thanks to material supplied by Steve Frost & Oakwood will follow soon and then i'll make a start on uploading some fun photo's from previous year's trips.

I'm hoping to be able to do LIVE reports for the USA Trip this year in conjunction with my own site, so plenty of new material coming soon.....Watch This Space!

Dave

P.S. If you'd like to see some of your photo's make the club's website then please forward them to me at trips@rccgb.co.uk I'm looking for some great shots from last year's Camp Oakmud!! I can't use all of them but will give every consideration to all of them received.
