Why Rollercoasters?

Why is it you like Rollercoasters and what is it you like about them?

Did somebody introduce them to you or did you just happen to stumble accross them yourself on a school trip for example?

For me my mother has always been a rollercoaster fan and still is at 55 Very Happy

She got the habit off my grandparents who went on the Grand National when it was only a few years old. So for me it is a family thing.

I can still remember going to PBB as a kid when the Rev was brand new and standing at the bottom marvelling at it and wanting to go on it, but at the time the little dipper was as good as it got for me due to me being too young and too small for the big rides.

For me it started at the age of 4 when I rode the zipper dipper and then fell in love with it they had to drag me out of there kicking and screaming. Every single year I have to go to Blackpool even if its for a day I still go. Then the big one opened there and that was it up there like a shot. Just love the thrill and the danger really.

For me it was family. I was lucky enough to goto Florida at a very young age, 9 i think. Because I was tall I always managed to ride everything so it started there really.

I think my first coaster was actually Kumba at Busch Gardens or maybe one at Chessy.
Magic

It's all about escapism. After a stressful week at work it's a chance to forget your every day worries and let the machine take control of your destiny. Now where have I heard that before. Laughing

Seriously I just love the adrenalin buzz and fun of a roller coaster. I've tried lots of adrenalin things like, Sky Diving, Rally Driving, Off Road Driving, Paragliding, Abseiling, Track day racing. But find having to concentrate on what I'm doing distracts from the enjoyment. With a roller coaster you genuinely have to let go of all control and let the ride take over, so you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

for me it was my first ever trip to blackpool pleasure beach organised by the pontins holiday camp i was staying at.
i had never been on a rollercoaster before and my first had to be the revolution. i was scared of hights at the time and walking up the steps for the first time was a nightmare for me. thanks to the revolution i got over my fear of hights very quickly and went on it another 5 times. since then no looking back and the higher and faster the better now.

that was back in 1979

I got into rollercoasters properly back in 2004. I was living in Stafford at the time so not too far away from Alton Towers, I bought an annual pass and spent every weekend there I could.

For me rollercoasters are all about the adrenaline, helps me beat out any stress I am feeling.

My dad got me into theme parks and coasters at an early age. He would take me all over the country. Living in London but going home to Scotland, he would take in all the parks on route. I can never remember my exact coaster count or all the parks that i did as a kid as i`ve not found some of them again as an adult.
My dad was really crazy about Dreamland and we would spend nearly every weekend there. I loved it though, never got bored.

As a kid i used to draw coasters, make models of coasters and have anything coaster related. Unfortunately i went through a very dark point in my teens and early twenties and binned it all.

My parents split up in 1992. He walked out on us and decided he wanted nothing to do with either of us. This meant financially as well. My mum had little money so only really did a couple of park visits a year. I went 3 years at one point not doing one ride.

In 1998 i started work at Sainsbury`s where i meet Carol/ Mad Mamma C. She invited me to join her out big group theme parking group. That's how i got hooked again.

I love the buzz from coasters. At work i`m a nasty, moody stress head. When i ride coasters i relax and feel good. At parks i change into the fool and can let stuff go. Plus coasters bring back good memories of both my parents. To long without doing coasters gives me withdrawal symptoms. Plus i`m a coaster geek and love it.
I find more relaxation from a RCCGB USA holiday than a beach holiday. I would go nuts doing nothing, i need to be active and getting a rush.

Fantastic photo of the revolution club photo MR DJ, how retro is that Cool

I remember my mum and cousin got one of them back in 1979 when they went on it, sadly I was to young to go on it at first.

But I have med up for that over the last 20 years or so Razz

I was 86 days old when you got that certificate !!  hehe, so i dont think i was able to go on it back then lol.

I got into coasters when i was 1bout 11 years old when i was on a family holiday too Great Yarmouth Pleaseure Beach.  I thought i was Queing for a small ride and when i got to the front of the Q i was in a bit of a shock, but my mum convinced me to ride it, and i have been a fan ever since.  My first coaster was also a looper, no mini apples for me until after this time.

you could have tried as health and safety wasnt so strict back then but i think you might have had trouble crawling up the metal stairs with the gaps in between.

Well according to my Dad i used to go to Thorpe Park etc when i was little, but I dont remember that!..But my Dad did get me into rollercoasters (that i remember!) a few years ago when we went to Thorpe Park (I think) I just loved it!!

I love the fact that rollercoasters are different and fun!
The adreniline(spelling) is great and most leave you smiling, or glad you've done it!!
hazzzzeeee

I used to hate them believe it or not!

The amount of times we would visit theme parks when I was young and I would always want to spend time on vintage cars or something like that!

The earliest memory I have was we were standing in the queue for the flying fish at Thorpe we were about to get on and I cried  and I walked through the train and did not go on  Embarassed

I went to flamingo land and did the corkscrew and like that and it has developed from there. As I signed Steve (bluea61) up for the RCCGB as a present he put me on the membership to and it has developed from there really.
The big one has sorted me out.

I rode my first rollercoaster at Barry Island Pleasure Park in South Wales when I was 6 years old and I thoughly enjoyed it as my dad encoraged me, as I used to have accassion visits there if he ever had to go over that way on a Saturday as he had most of his business over there of selling cakes to shops, hotels and resturants.
