Why do parentsThe topic may be misleading. But as a parent I may have mad a mistake with a xmas presant. I have gotten Thomas a kids guitar , he now thinks he is in a rock and roll band and it is loud.I don't meen just a little it is loud no volume control. As parents things look a great idea at the time but a really bad one any other time after.

Hey Andy!
I'm no parent and I've only got to buy presents for one or two people, but one thing that I do know is that wiring up a resistor in series with the speaker and having the same impedence value will half the volume!
Basically: All ye need to do (Assuming an 8-ohm speaker is in use) is cut one of the speaker wires and connect an 8-ohm resistor in series with the speaker. Total resultant impedence would be 16-ohms.
In plain English: This means that your kids toy will be 50% quieter. Using a 24-ohm resister would make it 75% quieter, but may be too quiet to hear!
(If this confused ye at all - And I fear that it may have - Consult a qualified electrician. We have several on this board! )
Farewell...
