Y'know...I'm quite surprised that when news of this came through, Nev didn't round up several of the Clubs' longer-standing members and get everyone down there to build Worthing's first ever Woodie with it! And with 2,000 tons of wood, ye could easily build a rival to Top Thrill Dragster with that lot. Mayhap even a Worthing - Portsmouth/Southampton woodie expressway! That'd certainly beat the socks off of South West Trains at any rate! One thing that I am curious to, though: The article mentions that it was declared illegal for people to collect the wood, or anything else washed up from the Ice Prince for that matter. Now I can fully appreciate the safety aspect of such a ruling, and a public safety advisory (Or "At your own risk") would have been perfectly fine IMO...But if I remember rightly, maritime laws dating back as far as 1400CE clearly state that sunken or wrecked ships and their cargo officially become salvage. (This doesn't apply to vessels of Her Majesty's Navy though.) Title to all salvage lawfully lies in the hands of he who collects and transports such salvage to a location under their control (A yard, etc.) and lawful claims to salvage by anyone are limited to whatever they have in their possession at the time. In plain English: This means that someone cannot lay claim to the entire salvage from a ship unless they have already collected every part of that salvage into a cart or some other transport. So in collecting the timber off of the beach, surely people are merely exercising a legal right that's existed for no less than 600 years? More importantly...By whose right was the prohibition to salvage declared? Unless it was made by Her Majesty the Queen herself (Who obviously has the power to override laws on a complete or case-by-case basis) then surely such a declaration is not only invalid (As it's an illegal change to the law and people's rights) but it's also indicative of the Governments true intention to strip each and every one of us citizens of what little rights we have left!
