Vekoma booster ride at Alton TowersI have just come accross plans for a proposed Vekoma booster bike launched ride at Alton Towers which would have been around the gloomy wood area.
I know from the behind the scenes tour that Alton had bids from both Intamin and Vekoma but Intamin won the day.
Do you think they made the right choice?

Intended name "Rita's Revenge"
I will believe it when Concrete footers start going down.

I have been told by a Vekoma fan on the BPB forum that the plans were faked
However at the time Vekoma did have some ride plans for the area that Rita stands in but in the end Alton chose Intamin

I hope it will go ahead as it sounds like a good ride. I imagine it would be like the one at Flamingo Land.
I know Alton Towers are thinking about getting a woodie for 2008, so expect this one should be about 2009.

Helen look at date in bottom right hand corner. It is well out of date. There is no coaster planned for 2008. The plans were put forward for there wooden coaster but as Alton have been trying for a fair few years for a wood I won't believe they are getting one until I see wood going up.
The Booster idea also included a Harry Potter theme around the same time. I will await what ever comes next but not to excited just yet as Alton have not really come up with anything great for a few years yet, thats not saying Rita is bad it just is not great.
I think they need a dueling Euro fighter ride in and out of Black holes tent that would be so cool and so different to anything else.

You have a great idea there my friend.
I hope the people at Alton may be thinking the same

There were indeed plans to build a Broomstick themed Booster Bike in Gloomy Wood. Alton decided against the installation due to low throughput casued by the loading procedure. This came up in conversation with John Wardely at an IAAPA convention.
So whether those specific plans are fake or not I don't know but there did look to install one.
Personally I think they made the right choice not to get one as they're not great for throughput and are pretty pants rides.

Sadly I doubt it as well.
Two things came from the bts tour we did at alton and that was that both alton and thorpe would not have similar coasters so that all but rules out a eurofighter for alton, plus we were told that alton would concentrate on the family market for the next few years so rule out a decent rollercoaster at alton for a while.
But mind you in truth we have waiting since nemesis was put in for another world class rollercoaster

I think a family coaster could still be an excellent coaster. Family doesn't mean say small and uneventful, it may be compact and exciting for all ages. Who knows.
Until Alton can find another Nemesis "get round the planning regulations" idea then they will struggle to top it. For example Oblivion found that edge and still pulls the crowds, so one day they may start digging but I think there are plenty of other things they can do first. More thrilling flats, more family adventure rides, more interactive rides (Splash Battle).
