USA 2010 ~ HOT TRACKS TOUR

topic for any discussions regarding the 2010 'hot tracks tour'

probable line up for the tour.......

Six Flags Great America
Indiana Beach
Holiday World
Kings Island
Cedar Point

(subject to change!)
reg

Done these, and apart from Diamondback, I'm in no hurry to get back to Kings Island. So I'll not be doing this one, but the 2011 trip sounds promising.
bradpeet

Well - I've not done any of these except Cedar Point.  And even at Cedar Point I still need some ticks  Laughing   It's a good enough park to go more than once too Wink

I guess I'm hooked

I am exactly the same....the weather at Cedar Point last year didn't help

I am hooked on USA coastering, darn I should not have done last years trip  Laughing
Apart from Ceder Point which I have done all parks are new to me. But Ceder Point is a park I really liked so will be up for this one.

Cedar Point definitely warrants multiple visits. So many great coasters and several ticks I need to do. Maverick was shut all day, Iron Dragon shut when we passed it and I did not do Wicked Twister as I was a bit under the weather and exhausted at that point. One let down was Disaster Transport as we queued for ages and it did not seem worth the wait.
Actually not having done WT or from memory another reverse coaster was why the reverse entry into Revolutions loop during this year Bash was such a wierd experience!
USfriends

Sounds like a great lineup, save for Great America.
They have lots of coasters, but nothing world class.
Raging Bull never really got raging, Superman Flying coaster
was nearly unridable, American Eagle was big, but unimpressive.
But it is close to Chicago, so helps close the loop.
On the other hand, Indiana Beach is one of the Coolest places
Ever! Lisa loves Cornball, and they have the new Steel Hawg.
HW has the Voyage (which we have not ridden since it opened)
and Raven. Its Killer!
We've done KI enough, but then comes Cedar Point, where
seven times isn't enough. Can you say Rollback?!
Of course the best thing about the trip is the chance to spend a week
with all you all!! Cool  Cool  Cool
c anderson

Indiana Beach also has a lake, with speeding tickets ready for Rough rider so looks to be a great trip
Boozytwin1

All being well, I hope to make this my first Club US trip...
I've done Cedar Point before but the others would all be new ground for me.   Holiday World looks to be a cracking park with some great woodies!

For those who have ridden Voyage, is it really as good as they all say??
reg

Boozy, The Voyage is the business!! It's HUGE, goes on forever, and is blisteringly fast!

I would say it was the other way around the voyage then shivering timbers but it is a real close call

You mean both are better than El Toro.

All I can say is wow!!!!!
Andy Hine MBE

Pah!  Phoenix is the one!
Spanners

The Voyage for me.... Shivering Timbers was ok but not a patch on the high speed out of control feeling of The Voyage.

Voyage any day over El Toro . . . .

Lets just say it's Rough Riders number 1 woodie.
It is so hard to describe.............the only way is to get out there and ride it. (followed by a little detour down to Texas and then ride the "RATTLER")

After so much praise for the Voyage I checked out a pov video & I'm aching to ride it now. Many great rides seem to be over all too quickly and that can't be said for this coaster.

Hello,

Am i right in thinking that there is a draw for these USA trips, rather than a first come first served system??

Just wondering as I am really keen on going to one and as a newbie, I'm not entirely sure of the process.......any tips?

Hi Geek. It's a draw and application details were in the current issue of Airtime posted last week.

Some details for this trip - the airport and airline is Heathrow / BAA, one week with five main days coastering in 5 parks, cost of the trip is £1,300 with three installments - an initial deposit of £300 due soon followed by two further installments of £500 spread over many months. A total of 53 members going (you have to be a club member). Hope that helps.

Steve
Magic

I think I'm right in saying that despite the drawer no one has ever been left out. On past trips people have followed along in a hire car, and one one occasion a mini bus was hired. Following along you'll still stay in the same hotels, take part in the ERS' but will have to do the driving instead of Bob. So don't worry too much about the drawer as Nev will do his best to ensure no one is left disappointed.

Yet another new tax!!!

European Union Threatens Retaliation if U.S. Imposes New Travel Fees
September 8
Daily Mail (London, England, UK)

John Bruton, the European Commission’s (EU's) Ambassador to Washington, criticized the proposed $10 fee on international travelers in the Travel Promotion Act. He said if the EU determines the new United States registration system and fee amounts to a visa, the EU may consider requiring visas for U.S. travelers. Many Europeans see the issue as another burden imposed on travelers by the United States.

It may be a lot of money but it certainly is one hell of a line up. Its got pretty much all the parks i ever wanted to visit in the US apart from those in California and Florida. It may be £1300 but im sure its gonna be worth every penny Very Happy

I am not sure that is confirmed as the trip is still at the planing stage. When i spoke to Nev it was a thought if it's possible - tho knowing Nev and his love of the phoenix he will do his best to go by Knoebels.

The Rattler, on the other has is confirmed! If it hasn't shaken itself to pieces and fallen down by 2011.

If you havn't seen it, Ryan showed us an excellent Rattler... watch the coaster after the "here comes the bend" !!

Anyhow: Joking aside, I presume that next years USA trip is one of the seven-day ones, isn't it? (I'm posting from a friends house, and don't have AIRtime with me to check.)
I've been meaning to try and book on a USA trip for a while now, but since the introduction of the shorter ones I've been having difficulty keeping track on which trips go on what years! Shocked

Although the shorter trips are generally a little cheaper than the traditional fortnighters, I'm thinking that - Like Mophead above - I'd rather save up and go for one of the longer ones. Smile
Given that I'll probabally only be able to afford one USA trip in my life (And even then, I'd be "tacking" it on to the start or end of a longer trip to the US) IIRC the two week trips give more coasters to the Dollar, don't they? Cool

Poor old Brian, it appears his previous experience with the Rattler has done far more serious brain damage than we first thought, he's completely dillusional.

Due to large amount of bookings I may delay the draw a few days a I try and sort another flight & coach.
Apologies to those biting their fingers!
I'll update as soon as I can.

Blimey, over subscribed again. Clearly a great selection of parks attracting the masses. Hope you can make extra arrangements so no one misses out, you don't normally disappoint.
Andy Hine MBE

There are now over 80 bookings.  I am working on getting seats on a second flight out and back (same airports, just different timings - it won't affect any park time).  I'm also looking at 2 coaches with the group split between the 2 (rather than one coach and 2 or 3 mini-vans).
I'll keep you updated.
There are a few of you who requested info but haven't yet booked - please send the booking ASAP so I know how many numbers I'm working with.

Thanks

I have two questions

Hi folks, got me forms today, two questions:

1. how/where do I specify I want to pay the single occupancy supplement of £230? At a guess, I would say mention in the Additional Traveller bit...

2. It says that "you are more than welcome to pay any installment at anytime from now" does that mean that I can send a single checque with the remaining balance?

Cheers,
Andy T
Andy Hine MBE

Hi

In answer to your questions:

1) Just include a note with your contract (due to increased size of group "single rooms" are subject to availability, as in some hotels we may need every room!)

2) Yes you can pay the full remaining amount, anytime from now (on one cheque).  BUT, if you don't, you must pay the next instalment by January 30th)

Quick update - there are now 87 members coming!  Very Happy

Nev might correct me here coz he has the figures but I think we had over a 100 people   Shocked   on the trip in 2001 - nearly two full coaches.  Very Happy   Now that trip was a logistical piece of fun.  Cool  Back then we used 747s where poss and I could get us all on one flight. Sixth club USA trip, can`t wait. The Voyage and Shivering Timbers (my personal goal) on the same trip. Can`t wait to go back to Holiday World and try out the water park this time. Plus going to Cedar Point in a much more relaxed fasion this time. Water park and dozzy wonderings this time.

Cheers Nev.

Contracts sent off. Thanks Nev for arranging it all. Like Stevie says I too can't wait to visit new parks and get to ride new coasters (inc. the acclaimed Voyage and Shivering Timbers).

Another visit to Cedar Point is long overdue Smile as it will be 2 year's since my first and only visit and I've still got to go on MaxAir, Power Tower, Wicked Twister and Maverick! Magnum XL, Millenium Force, TTD and all those other great rides are so worth going back for.

Being more settled in riding coasters and drop towers and such than I was as a newbie, everything will be all the more enjoyable now. Bring it on!

Bring on Shivering Timbers and The Voyage Very Happy

Since this will be my first trip to Cedar Point, how many of the rides do you reckon i can squeeze in during one day? Rekcon you can do all the major rides there in one day? Even if not, im gonna give it a go Smile

Oh yes - drop towers.

I seem to have lost my fear of them - so probably won't be sitting them out anymore.

(Was at Edinburgh Dungeon yesterday - their finale packs a punch!!!)

Cedar Point should be easy to do all if it don't rain like it did last year. The rides are quick and loading and leaving the stations.
