USA 2008 KOASTER KRAZY

Little help here please.
This will be my second USA trip and ive decided to bring my wife (sarah j) with me its our 10th wedding aniversary. This will be her first serious coaster expedition i ask the tour group to give her the confidence and support to ride the tallest fastest rides america can offer. She has only just done Oblivion for the first time and that took a bit of blackmail although this was her 4th loopathon. It would be a real shame to have laid out 1800 quid to have her sit with the bags while we enjoy the rides.
Early next season im taking her to Thorpe for Stealth then Flamingo land for velocity then Blackpool bash so hopefully she will be ready.
coaster-andy

I am sure that if she is wanting to ride any huge coaster she will. Take it from someone who knows there is no point making somebody do a ride if they don't want to. I did that for my wife, the Big One Blackpool, she past out. I must admit that now she will ride almost all coasters. You need to really get her to do Stealth & Rita first as if she cannot cope with any part of that I don't know how she is going to to do twice as fast as Rita or twice as high as Stealth.
I must also say Oblivion is not much out of the ground so 180ft is not looking like it. I have not done the big USA but I can say I am going to do the big one's like all others who have done it.
The Judge

thanks for the reply andy. Im sure the wife will be fine i think she just needs some group support.
Do i seem to the only person posting about next years trip.
Who else is going?
Has anyone done any of these parks before?
What are the personal favorite rides to look out for?
I dont know about anyone else but i cant wait, its all i seem to be thinking about.
Cant wait to get back to Cedar Point.
hazzzzeeee

I used to be very scared of rollercoasters, and the one thing that cured me was the big one at Blackpool! Do that and she will be fine.
I went to Florida last year and did them all and havent looked back!
bradpeet

There are quite a few of us going on this trip lol. It was over subscribed to the extent that Nev went back to renegotiate and was able to accommodate everybody who had applied. (Thanks again Nev Very Happy )

It will be my first trip overseas with the club - and I have not visited any of these parks previously. So, I am hoping to ride 50 coasters that I have never ridden before. I'm getting excited and nervous about the trip just writing this Surprised

I went on my 1st USA trip in 2004. THis is now my 3rd. the parks we are going to are exceptional. It will be a trip of a life time. With the most amazing one off experiences.

This is my first USA trip with RCCGB and my first USA trip full stop. I have done one big trip with this club back in to 2003. That gave me my love or coasters and now the more I ride the more I love. I must say the reason for doing this trip as everyone I have spoken to , who have done the parks, say how great that these parks are. So really looking forward to this trip in 2008.
Big Stevie B

The wrestler Mick Foley speaks very highly of Knoebels, Hershey Park and Kennywood. He is like a hero to me, as a wrestling legend and an ACE Member. I read about the parks in his autobiography's. I`m Excited as i`m ticking off more of the parks on his list.

I was not planning to do this trip but Carol talked me into applying. I was going to save myself and apply for Nev`s European trip. Now i`m really pleased i went for this trip. Would be strange now not doing the club USA trip. It makes my year now. This will be my fourth USA club trip.

Thanks for the support hazzzzeeee Very Happy . I have already riden The Big One and Rita. Hopefully that should help, I just seemed to have turned into a coward since having my 2 girls. My hubby Andy is taking me to Thorpe Park next year to crack Stealth.

Really looking forward to USA 2008. Andy hasnt stopped talking about Cedar Point since he went in 2006.

Cedar point is a great park. In my opinion Knobeles is buy far the best park overall on the trip. They have the best milkshakes. WhenI went in 2004 we did a gane called the ice cream challange. I will not say too much about it. But it is the most fun you can have while eating ice cream.

I think having fear after having children is normal as Clare, my wife, lost her ability to ride after children. It will come back don't worry.

I'm sure when your wife arrives at these fantastic parks she will get swept away with the club atmosphere and have NO problem getting on any ride Smile Especially kingdaka (spell check) Laughing
She might get a little scared when she attempts the ice cream challenge though. Razz Take it from the person who was one of the first to do it..........FANTASTIC Surprised

Sarah: three words of advice - Just do it!!! Very Happy

Usa Club Trips:
1) Parks - great
2) the atmosphere and social side of the club - great
3) The rides - great
4) the extra special ride time - great
5) Fun, fun, fun . . .
6) laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate

My first USA trip was 2005 and i was so busy chatting to people that i was walking onto hyper coasters without even looking at them! Laughing

mmm ice cream challenge

A food type challenge, bring it on. you are talking to the only man to eat 2 belly buster breakfasts at lindsey oil refinery shutdown 2 years ago. i got my name on the wall and my photo taken and everything. i also ate 2 full fish dinners at steels corner house restaurant cleethorpes before bieng asked to leave. So any wussy ice cream challenge dont seem that bad. Although i have lost three stones in weight since then my belly may have shrunk.
Although a nasty afterthought does it involve eating icecream on a turbulant ride cos if thats the case im screwed.

If you can handle looking after two young children, riding rollercoasters should be a doddle.

Just a question hope someone will answer me. The January payment for this trip., I think I remember that it is due on the 2nd of Jan. With Christmas post is there a few days leeway. I ask so I know when I need to post my first payment. The cheque will be cleared from my bank as I send it which is good.
Amberrider

Hi Coaster-Andy,

Because 2nd January will be just after the Christmas post, and just in case there are any more postal strikes, I'm going to post my payment at the end of November to be on the safe side.
coaster-andy

Thanks for the reply Amberrider. I have just posted mine I think I put correct details on cheque if not Andy will post it back to me.

As I know Andy Hine is well behind with RCCGB stuff at the moment. I will not fill his Email box anymore than it already is as this question may get lost in there. I was wondering do we get a receipt of payment notification as I have just sent my second payment for the trip. I may have also made a error on payment name as I put USA 2008 and not USA Trip 2008. We all have bad days and forgetfulness.

What I normally do is contact those who haven't paid!!
So if I don't contact you in the next few days you are fine - but if you are one of the eight who's payment I haven't yet received I may be speaking with you very soon!!  Twisted Evil

It's my first club trip ever, despite being a member for ten years (I still have issue 4 of Airtime in the loft.)

It's only really now that I can afford to pay for a rollercoaster holiday for myself, and not being attached I don't have the guilt of either dragging someone along who's not really up for it or leaving them behind while I have all the fun Smile

Really looking forward to it though as this trip seems to be a whirlwind tour of many of the parks I've spent the last ten years dreaming of visiting.

Does anyone know if/when we get a detailed itinerary and if there's any kind of pre-flight booze-up? I'm currently trying to plan the best way for me to get to Heathrow. Current thinking is to get down there the night before to avoid potential problems.

My first official USA club trip was last year. You will receive in the post a full itinery, luggage tags, checklist, and all the instructions you will need on where to meet up, check-in, what time etc. etc.

If you live along way from Heathrow, you may be better getting there the evening before so you are on-site and have no chance of missing the plane.

As for a pre-flight booze up, i'm not sure that will happen. You can't fly when drunk remember, so getting hammered before boarding a plane isn't the best plan to be honest. That said, i'd bet a pound on the fact you'll find some people in the bar Smile
coaster-andy

I am glad to hear it is heathrow. Meens I can stay home and sleep for free and no extra cost to me. I have just posted cheque 2 now all I need to raise is spending money for the trip.

Weeeeell, when I say booze-up, I'm not envisaging getting completely trollied. That would indeed be daft. I suppose it depends on the flight time really, was thinking more of 3-4 drinks the evening before, few games of pool, that sort of thing.

You'd bet a whole pound? One whole english pound? *faints* Razz

Does anyone have the following info:

Departure time and terminal on 7th (heard dep time is 8.55am)

Arrival time and terminal on 15th (heard arr time is 9.15am)

(Am trying to plan my journey down to heathrow, hotel etc.)
Coaster Police

Haha, well i think to be honest I could make more than a simple Pound on the bet, as I know there's a regular crew that hang out in the bar!

I am not sure of the flight times, as originally we were going to be flying back from Detroit. I understand that BA now don't fly from Detroit so it could be from Chicago now. Until the final flight information is sent, I'm not really sure Sad

The outbound flight is to New York (Newark). There are 2 each day, 08:55 and 14:40 i think, and they go from LHR T4, but thats all i know.
bradpeet

I need to make similar plans.

I've considered spending a few days in Lodon before the trip - in which case I'll find a hotel within the city somewhere, and plan how to get to Heathrow on the morning.

However, if there are a few people planning in staying in an airport hotel for the night before the flight I would probably modify that plan to join them.

So - who is planning on staying in an airport hotel?  And does anybody have a recommendation as to which hotel to use pleae?

I will be flying down the day before so if anyone will be visiting a bar to keep the bartender in employment I would be interested.
Has anyone a suggestions for a hotel?

Its funny Ryan...

My pound bet was soley based on your attendance  Laughing

Unfortunately i wont be there, as i'm heading out a week early! But i'll catch up with you in the evening for a couple of simple beers Smile
krusty_the_clown

I wouldnt start planning timings yet as the flights will be departing from the new Heathrow Terminal 5! so its possible that timings will change with the transfer of terminals. On top of this (as already stated) BA have scrapped using Detriot as a flight base!

Every US flight I've done with the club (7 now WOW!) has left between 9AM and Midday (ish) so expect to at the airpot for an early leave on that day!

Barry

And those still worried, I can confirm that the parks on the trip are the top top parks! I could spend a week at kenobels just on their bumper cars!!! (notice bumper cars not dodgems!

Swish. Well, I've booked my hotel. If you move quick you can get a Travelodge within 3 miles for £29 for the night. There's nothing left for Terminal 5 but there's one in Feltham. If you miss out on that then the next nearest is Staines (4 miles.) As far as I can tell, everywhere else charges significantly more than £29.

I didn't bother adding the breakfast since I'd imagine there'll be some available on the plane. Can always grab a snack in the airport too.

Does anybody have the day by day itinerary of the trip yet?

There were five parks announced as i remember. Six Flags Great America, Hershey Park, Kennywood, Knoebels and Cedar Point.
But i was just looking at the Google maps of the parks are saw that Dorney Park is only 55 miles away.

www.rcdb.com/pr.htm?nearpark=60&pstatus=141

So we are doing Knoebels and Kennywood for two days each?
Is Knoebels doable in one day, being it only has 4 ticks?

Its just a few of us were wondering about finding a way down to Dorney to do the extra 10 ticks? If we are doing the parks twice?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=htt...ww.rcdb.com/coord.kml?nearpark=60
Magic

Think you mean Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Great America is a bit of a trek away, and I gather will be on the 09 trip.

Afraid I can't help on the itenerary front. Dorney is quite a nice park, Talon is one of my favourite B&M inverters, most of the other coasters were OK but nothing out of the ordinary. The park did look after us last time we were there though.

Knoebels is a great park and despite only having 4 ticks there is lots to do there. By the time you've got bored of the Flyers and the Bumper Cars that's most of the day gone. Make sure you harass Nev to do an ice cream challenge on the High Speed Thrill Coaster, always a giggle and worth getting all goey for the free ice cream. Damn i wish I was joining the club for Knoebels alone.
Big Stevie B

Sorry, i meant Great Adventure. That was because i did Great America on Coaster Heaven.
The park i want to do on this trip is Knoebels but if we are doing two days there i presume Nev has booked us in close to the park. Still, if Cedar Point is achievable in one day, then these for ticks and the park should be doable too. Just brainstorming at the moment, saying that i do have somebody checking prices and routes as we speak. lol

Was also wondering what time we land in New Jersey and how far away from the park we are staying? Because we are 38 miles away from Coney Island!!!!!
I have to do the Cyclone one day. Was going to try to do a few days early but not received my money yet to book it and cant get holiday for that from work. Still, 38 miles? I don`t need sleep anyhow! lol

Sorry for this but i`m a coaster junkie. I have Nev plan the trip of a life time for me and i still look for more! lol But come on, its 10 ticks!

I mean, come on!
Magic

I think Coney Island is only open weekends when you are over there and opens at Noon so don't know how that might fit in with plans.

I'm guessing you'll be about 40 minutes from Knoebels because the park is in the middle of no where and non of the local hotels are big enough for a group as big as the RCCGB.

Might be worth having a look back at the 2004 trip for vagueish rough idea of the route you might be taking and what you might get up to in the parks.

Now it's me getting my Six Flags mixed up. Six Flags America will likely be on the 09 trip, Six Flags GREAT America was on the 07 trip.
Big Stevie B

Oh Marcus. Do you have the 2009 itinerary yet then? lol

I can start annoying people with detour plans before i`m even put in the hat! lol

I know the 2009 trip was said to be an East Coast tour but Astroland closes this year.

I should be getting a payment and was thinking of an extra trip. Yet, USA non club could be seriously pants now.

I`ll have a look at the Coney Island thing. Maybe even bug the BIG man himself for a couple of clues. lol

I had a dream last night that I'd somehow made it to the US airport without my passport.

I don't usually remember my dreams so maybe it had something to do with the six pints of cider I had before bed.

Those lucky folks on this trip might like to take a look at this video of the all new Flying Turns in testing at Knoebels. http://rollercoasterfreak.com/2008_ACE_Events/CoasterBash/IMGP8637.MOV

It's about 100meg so be patient as it'll take a while to load.

Only slight issue is with the trains, they'r not happy with them so will only be running the one train until later in the Summer when they'll use modified versions. Wish I was coming with you to check this one out.
Andy Hine MBE

Although Knoebels are hoping everything will be fine for us - If the Flying Turns should not be running we will all be given a full track walk, bottom to top and down again!  You'll get to see the track that Christine put into place (sort of!).  It will be easy to spot - It will be the section where none of the nails are in the right place!  It was the first time she had used a nail gun and she fired them everywhere!  Surprised

Flying Turns looks great I am so hoping it is running for my first USA trip. In fact all parks look amazing and the rides well I am just so looking forward to it. I think is 13 weeks 3 days if I am counting right.  Laughing

I know that when we rode the Outlaw with no brakes it was risky but a fantastic time, the video of the Rattler shows how mad we were to ride it as it was so bad a ride.

Just a reminder that the final installment for the USA trip is this Friday.  If you haven't sent your payment yet please try and do so by Wednesday to allow for the post.
If you have sent yours you should receive your "Trip Tip Guide" in the post tomorrow along with the rooming list and an important request.

Just reading the tips gudie etc it says on the first page bout the usa visa etc it says we meet at Gatwick I guess thats just a errr etc. The other question is do we get these visa waiver forms on the plain as I remeber last time we did can someone just confirm that we do. Thank you.

I got my Trip Guide this morning...the guide does say that Nev will give us the waiver forms at the airport...otherwise the cabin crew will have enough to go round........

Is anyone else from up north travelling down the night before and if so where are you staying?
