Definitely intriguing, but as one of the users says on that board the poem is a direct rip of an historial poem.
Me and Hayley were discussing the ride on Monday and we were saying it would be good themed along Robin Hood or Knights of the Round Table.

Yes it's quite easy these days for someone to create a convincing movie. But I do like the theme of this actually...

The same pack as posted on TT, makes for a very interesting read

Here's the direct link to the video reportedly revealing information about SW6. Apparently another video will be released in less than 48 hours.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS1C6U4Wf7w
And here's a poem that goes with the video
A trumpet blast, a charge into the light
From Alton Towers the hunt took flight
The Earl was confused and puzzled to why
His favorite hound was nowhere to his eye.
Upon the hunting parties return
The Earl's young child raised concern
For nowhere was he to be seen
Then suddenly an unearthly scream.
Her clothes covered in crimson smears
Her eyes alight, filled with fear
The maid cried the hound had killed the boy
With blood on it's fangs and eyes full of joy.
The frantic Earl, blinded by grief
Withdrew his blade from it's sheath
An almighty plunge of this hunting knife
Took the hound bereft of life.
The dog's dying cry awoke his son
Peacefully concealed in another room
But nearby, a slain wolf was found
The true attacker lay on the ground.
The Earl realised his dreadful error
His heart began to fill with terror
His child had been saved by the hound
Which lay displaying the fatal wound.
The poor dog's bones were laid to rest
North of the Towers in sacred ground blessed
From that day forth the Earl never smiled
His haunting mistake turning him wild.
His heart ripped and removed
The Earl's sorrow forever proved.
In a unmarked grave in Alton Towers
Lies a simple bed of flowers
In 2009 it's grave was disturbed
The Alton hound's accidental rebirth.
If this is genuine I'm liking the sound of the back story for the ride. Will be good if they've made an effort rather than just plonk another misthemed ride in an area cough Rita cough.
I'm slightly sceptical of the video though. My 2 reasons for doubting it are, if it was professionally made I'd expect it to be 16X9 rather than 4X3 aspect ratio. Secondly the B Roll footage of Rita looks lower quality, as if it's been recorded off TV or the internet. But saying all that it is well put together and shows some real effort on some ones part. Would a fan boy go to this much effort?
|
drsarf
|
Probably, if its a fanboy who is studing media or something at college? The youtube profile says its a 19 year old, if its true info.
Look at the enthusiast websites that we have available - very professional looking, using the very latest in web technology, and these are just fan boys when it boils down to it, so the ability to produce a professional outcome is definately there.
The main thing that swings it for me is its timing - its very eary being a whole year before the ride opens, and I don't think Merlin would start advertising it already when its aimed soley at enthusiasts.
I do think its a very good production and I like the theme of it, and the poems significance.

There's some inconsistency with the different videos too. In the Blair Witch style ones they show a hooded figure, hinting he is connected with the ride theme. But this other one suggests it's themed to a ghostly hound woken from the dead.
I've decided to call shenanigans on these. I'm guessing these could be end of year projects for media or marketing students.

I'm guessing it's going to be something along the lines of the Jet Ski and Motorbike coasters Intamin have built in Australia with the Worlds first element being the theming of the trains.
I don't think it'll be the broomstick themed coaster that was looked into for Gloomy Wood but something else. If the train style is the Worlds first then it can't be horses due to Pony Express. I do like the idea of a horse theme though. So what other train styles could we have? Ghosts? Werewolf? Hounds? Eagles?
It makes sense that Intamin supply the new coaster as they could do a deal on new trains for Rita too. That's if the rumours of Rita being rebranded are true.

If i'm looking at the pic correctly, I think the rumoured 'tilt track' is going to be more of a moving platform, where the whole section of tracks drops down, not just tilts. Look at the pics of the top the 2nd lift, and the track leaving the station underneath. One above the other, lined up. Maybe the train will roll off the top of lift 2, into the building (castle, we assume) and then the whole length of track drop down and link up with the lower section. Maybe a mild reverse launch out into the helix? Might just be clutching at straws, but you never know.

I've really grown to love launch coasters (not literally!) or those with fast lift hills such as El' Toro. Even if space is limited then parks could do far worse than add a nice launch coaster such as Tornado in Bakken (a fast paced spinning coaster with a wicked start and wild ride).

Alton Towers has hired Simon Cowell's former bodyguard to help them protect a new secret ride they are working on.
Alton Towers will pay Tony Adkins the equivalent of a six-figure salary to protect the new ride - codenamed SW6.
Bosses say fans are so desperate to find out more about the £15 million roller-coaster - which is said to have a never-before-seen feature - they needed the extra security.
And Tony seems to have all the right credentials, he has spent seven years as a professional bodyguard also working for Princess Anne, Iron Maiden and Boy George.
He will now direct and provide advice to the in-house security team -- alternatively they could just put pictures of his face around the fence.
A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort said: "There is a die-hard fan base out there dedicated to the discovery of information about the new ride and the Resort is desperately trying to keep it under wraps.
"We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Tony, whose previous experience of working in a celebrity environment will stand him in good stead to deal with our superfans."
Tony added: “I have looked after celebrities and even a member of the Royal Family, but this has to be one of my most interesting assignments yet. I’ve heard a lot of things and I’m hoping that the fans aren’t as scary as Simon Cowell!"
SW6 is scheduled for launch in March 2010.

Thirteen - Push your luck at the Alton Towers Resort!
UK theme park announces launch of the world's first 'Psychoaster' for March 2010
Today, the Alton Towers Resort has announced that it will be launching the ultimate rollercoaster Thirteen on 20th March 2010.
Until now, Thirteen has been kept top secret under the name "Secret Weapon 6” and is the subject of much speculation from fans. The new £15m ride is billed to be the scariest in the UK and will join a long line of world first attractions at the Alton Towers Resort including "Nemesis", "Oblivion" and "Air".
Thirteen will be based on the discovery of an unearthed ancient burial site in an area of unexplored woodland known as the Dark Forest. Built on the site of the old Corkscrew rollercoaster, visitors will be invited to take a petrifying ride on Thirteen, venturing into the seemingly living and breathing Dark Forest. There they will face an unknown horror that has been unleashed from the ancient crypt.
The ride has been developed with the world's leading coaster and thrill consultants who have collaborated to combine the ultimate elements of physical and psychological fear - to create what experts are dubbing a ‘psychoaster’.
The new technology will be the first of its kind in the world and will potentially make the ride so frightening that the Resort is considering introducing a controversial age-rating. Only visitors between the ages of 16-55 will be allowed on the ride due to concerns about emotional maturity and physical health. Visitors may also be limited to one ride per day and be required to sign a waiver which assures the Resort of their physical and mental health to avoid any resulting lawsuits.
THIRTEEN STATS AND FACTS
• £15 million pound investment
• Built on a burial site that is part of the original Alton Abbey, Thirteen will be themed around a crypt, with one of the main features of the ride taking place inside the unearthed crypt
• The ride was tested and built in Europe before being shipped to the UK
• Thirteen has been in design for 2 years and taken 9 months to build by a team of 35 working round the clock, to ensure it’s ready for launch in March
• The ride is replacing the old Corkscrew Rollercoaster which closed in November 2008 after 28 years and was the nation’s first double-helix rollercoaster
John Wardley, rollercoaster expert said: “This ground-breaking technology is something never seen before and will open up a whole new concept for theme park rides. By combining physical and psychological terror, Thirteen will be the first ride to play on emotional fear and something coaster fans will not be prepared for.”
Morwenna Angove, Sales and Marketing Director at the Alton Towers Resort said: “We're thrilled to announce the launch of Thirteen at the Alton Towers Resort. This new ride will be a shocking, never-experienced-before rollercoaster and we’re excited that once again the Alton Towers Resort is able to offer visitors the chance to experience something unavailable in any other part of the world. However, just as we take physical health and safety very seriously, Thirteen demands that we also consider our visitors’ emotional health, and as such we’re not afraid of introducing necessary measures to ensure riders are fully prepared and healthy enough to brave Thirteen”

How is 200 quid per person (based on 2 people) a bargain? Unless you squish 4 people into a family hotel room and it works out 100 each (which you can't anyway as it's only 2 adults per room), given that the park isn't open - you get golf and the waterpark. Mind you with 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts included, i guess it's not that bad. It does say that the ride isn't necessarily going to operate, it's just a tour - though we'd hope if it's ready to work, it would, i guess this is a disclaimer.
That said, it does look like a top weekend from a behind-the-scenes perspective. I will seriously consider it, i mean, what else is there to do in March
Certainly looks to be a good ride. I wonder how much Psy is really going to feature that warrants a 16-55 age limit and signing of a liability agreement. This of cause could be pre-opening hype, but still - sounds a great ride. And really nice from the photo's i've seen so far, that it uses the woodland area as themeing. Will feel faster if it's close to trees (Boulder Dash comes to mind). Looking forward to it

That's what I was thinking...although if you read the text it does say the resort is "considering" the age limit (i.e. they may consider NOT to introduce it) and it also says "Visitors MAY also be limited to one ride per day and be required to sign a waiver", i.e. they may not!
It sounds like the usual Alton Towers new coaster hype...saying lots of scary stuff and then probably backing down on all of that when faced with thousands of people wanting to ride it.

Makes me wonder whether the age rating thing and 1 ride per day thing could possibly be a bit of marketing hype to draw attraction to the ride.
Surely with the 16 age rating we go back to a similar debate that was had with Saw the ride? About the appropriateness of something like this in a family park.
Although saying that, for me the scarier the ride then the better.

£99.00 per person, per night (pppn is next to the price) based on 2 sharing. I.E. whatever you do, it's going cost £396 for the weekend. Too much IMHO.
The package is only available as 2 nights. - therefore £198 per person.
Only the old hotel will be open, as Splash Landings is being re-furbished. The Waterpark will be open as will the golf. The rest of the park is closed. This is a special preview weekend offer. I spoke to someone today about it at AT.

I'm sure the likes of Age Concern would have a issue over the upper age limit. 55 is incredibly young. The lower age limit is kind of fair enough if it really is that traumatic a ride.
Out of interest how old is John Wardley, he must be over 55. I trust he won't be allowed to ride it.
The environmental impact of everyone having to sign a disclaimer to ride is too horrible to think of. Assuming it's a standard sheet of A4, a ride capacity of 1400 people per hour, a operating day of 8 hours; the stack of disclaimers would reach nearly 4 foot tall. If the ride was at full capacity for the busy 6 week Summer period, this would create a stack 168 feet tall. I gather disclaimers have to be kept for 3 years so they'd have a stack 460 feet tall. And I still haven't factored in that the park is open for more than just the 6 weeks in Summer. Ignoring the amount of paper involved what about the carbon foot print of the building required to store all this paper. Did anyone see any planning application to build a warehouse?
I strongly suspect that both these comments in the press release are about over hyping the ride. In a bid to make the ride sound even more scary and exciting they're dragging out all the puff tricks they can. Fair play to them, but it could be dangerous if the ride turns out to not live up to expectations.

I am sure you are right Marcus...but age limits on riding coasters are quite common in other countries (like Japan, for example)...I don't think they are enforced strictly to be honest, but the principle is used elsewhere.
On this occasion though, I suspect the whole thing is just the usual hype.

Towers times have revailed.
Only last week saw the unveiling of Alton Towers' latest roller coaster: Thirteen. The announcement set the enthuisiast community alight with discussion and excitement, but it seems they weren't the only ones.
It has been reported that certain celebrities have made offers to gain the first exclusive ride on the world's first "Psychoaster". These include an un-named Premiership footballer, who has offered £20,000 to be the first to ride.
Such interest has prompted Alton Towers Resort to consider the possibility of opening up a bidding war, with the highest bid gaining that exclusive ride. If the auction goes ahead, the money raised would go to the Merlin's Magic Wand charity. This wouldn't be the first time Alton Towers have held a charity auction for the same cause, as this time last year a Corkscrew ride car was auctioned off with a winning bid of £7,300.
