Southport & North Wales - Sunday 13 April 2008

On the way home from Blackpool on Sunday, we went via Southport and North Wales to see whats happeneing there.

At Southport they have 3 coasters operating. 2 Big Apples and the Storm coaster (previously called Gauntlet?)....

The 2 Big Apples are both the originals, 1 from Southport and the other from BPB. The other coaster called Storm is now also running.
Strange to have 2 Big Apples on-site really. Spoke to the owner who only seems to run 1 at a time to get the above info. Typically, the one I had never been on was the old Blackpool one, but he kindly took the covers off and fired it up for us to have a couple of laps in it... SCRATCH!

Then it was off to North Wales.... our first stop was Williams Amusements in Towyn. They have 2 coasters, the Z40 (which was broken waiting parts which is a pain as I now have to go back again), and a big apple/crazy caterpillar, SCRATCH!. Coaster-count reports them having a powered coaster called Venom, but that was nowhere to be seen, and we suspect replaced by the caterpillar. So i've emailed coaster-count with updated info.

Final stop was the Nessi coaster on rhyl promenade... SCRATCH!

Anyway, there we go... a 150 mile detour on the way home for 3 caterpillars, storm and the Rhyl Nessi!

Southport is still a mess to be honest - if you see my pics (link below in signature), you'll see what i mean, especially storm where you have to mud-wade to get to it!

Yeah, you lot broke it before we got on it. Still, we managed a few laps at the end of the day and broke down on us too  Laughing

Matt

Your've just making it harder for me to ride all operating UK coasters this year Wink
Start of the year i was hoping to complete all,now with Williams Amusements - Towyn,Milky Way Adventure Park  and Barry Island Pleasure Park opening new coasters this year along with Craig Tara Holiday Park  it looks unlikely. They are just so spread out.

The Milkyway Park will be a nightmare to get to as i had been there last year.

17 more to go according to coaster count.

I agree.... the remaining ones are huge distances apart and they are not that good either.... not to worry, got to be done though!
