Sea life centre for Alton towers

I have heard this so many times bout a sea life centre coming to Alton towers but now more evidence is online. Merlin have already opened one in Chessington so think it will be a good idea for Alton and a new bit to mutiny bay to.

It's official. Alton Towers announced today that a Sea Life aquarium will open at Alton Towers next year. I really must renew my season pass for such an exciting new attraction.

The Alton Towers Resort is delighted to confirm that they have today been granted permission to build a SEA LIFE aquarium.

Opening in Spring 2009, the attraction will be the 30th SEA LIFE aquarium, and will provide the familiar friendly and authoritative guide to the last great frontier…the seas and oceans of the world, and their myriad of mysterious and amazing inhabitants.

There will be no additional charge for guests visiting the Theme Park to enter the aquarium, which will be located within the pirate-themed Mutiny Bay area of the Park.

Russell Barnes, Divisional Director for the Alton Towers Resort, said:

'We are delighted to have received the go-ahead to begin building this new attraction which I am confident will be a fantastic addition to the Resort. We'll be adding our unique Alton Towers touch to SEA LIFE’s excellent reputation and expertise in marine conservation, education and awareness in order to create an amazingly themed attraction that families can enjoy together’.

A sister brand to the Alton Towers Resort within the Merlin Entertainments Group, SEA LIFE is the world’s No 1 aquarium brand, and second largest attraction brand in Europe.

I enjoyed my first ever visit to Alton Towers during this years Loopathon, & I hope this will add a little something to the experience.

Sea Life is dull as dish water. Same goes for London Aquarium and all the UK Sealifes i`ve been to. I would only do them in a group and because i have an annual pass. Why does Alton Towers need this and whats the point? We lose Corkscrew and Beastie and get a few fish. Wow, that's impressive. Can`t wait to line up for that on opening day. Chessington`s got boring after the first visit.

I agree with you Steve. Alton is a Theme Park, not a flippin' aquarium.

So Oakwood may have one in the future and now Alton towers. If they theme it right etc and make it look good then it will be something good for the family and good for us if it rains  Very Happy . I do like the one in Birmingham etc as they change theres every year and the weymouth one also has rides adding to theres. The London one looks like it aint been touch in years but now with merling takeing over who knows?

A major new coaster, or a coaster going through a 'water feature' such as the mantis ray attraction in Dubai would be better.

I'm not keen either. The one at Chessington isn't very good, I don't like them.

I am not keen on these but we all had a idea they were coming once Merlin took over. I think they are all the same but as I had season pass I have done a few this year and will take kids in Alton Towers new one next season keeps the kids quite for a hour  Laughing

I like fact people are saying what's the point to having an aquarium, but then why are there zoos in theme parks? No one seems complains about them?! (Though I may be wrong)

In my opinion, like zoos, the aquariums in different parks are good as it gives somewhere to kind of chill out, especially on a busy day. I mean on busy days people (and groups on club trips etc) like to go around the zoos instead of spending the whole day queing.

But I guess everyone has their own opinion and some people will like it and some others wont, but im really excited about that! And as Rich said it will go well with Mutany Bay.

If done well it may be a nice extra for a family with younger members and for those adults that may like to take a little time out and chill.

I still would like to see a new coaster much like thorpe are doing, but hey, the choice has been made. Any news on what new coasters may come to Alton?
