I'd await for official news before worrying too much. Just hearsay at the moment.

As far as I am aware from my contacts at BPB it will remain family owned for a good while longer yet.
But then with it being BPB anything could happen

Apparently the park has been bought by Virgin.

It is Blackpools answer to the rubbish press releases that Alton are doing, Alton will not be having a coaster for babies & Blackpool is not being sold to Virgin, well not at the moment

Some rumor on the BPB guide that the people who own Blackpool Tower may be behind this.
But I think that is a wild rumour rather than a good one personally.

Apparently it has been sold to a group called the "Emporio Commercial Consortium"

Hope they've got lots of financial backing and can invest in something more exciting than a coaster with a big first drop. Fingers crossed for something fun, thrilling and popular to bring the crowds back and bring their money with them.

Does that mean there is truth in this, or was it a joke you have to know something to get!!

Who ever the owners are I'm hoping they don't go after the world record as a taller Kingda Ka is dull. I'd actually like to see a brand new woodie that can be fun and thrilling and appeal to a wider family audience.

Yes I was joking! (Look at the initials!)
I have spoken to BPB today and they are 100% not sold or up for sale. In fact they were as surprised as you were when they heard that rumour!

Rumour has it around Blackpool, that Sony are in the frame but Amanda Thompson can't sell for a year or two yet. This story repeatedly surfaces and it is common knowledge that the Thompson kids aren't half as interested in the park as their dad was. About 4 years ago, the Pleasure Beach was trying to get the council to allow them to bulldoze all of Osborne Road & Withnell Road so that they could expand. They didn't succeed and were not very happy about it. We spent many a happy hour sitting at the public hearings on this subject, so know this as fact not rumour.

That would have been some plot of land.
Its the one thing that the pleasure beach will never have enough of unless they start buying up old buildings and trying to Bulldoze them.

We didn't actually say they were not interested....we said they were not half as interested as their dad was. Living here in Blackpool and hearing the day to day stuff that goes on at the Pleasure Beach from people who work there/have dealings there gives us a whole different perspective from the one that is presented to the ouside world. Geoffrey Thompson was incredibly passionate about the Pleasure Beach, it was his life - his passing left a huge void there, that has not yet been filled.
