Oakwood Theme Park has announced its search to adopt a Charity and a School of the Year for 2008.
The Theme Park is asking individuals, groups, organisations, schools and charities to nominate a school and/or charity to be supported by Oakwood throughout 2008.
The chosen school and charity will benefit from a hands-on approach from the Oakwood team, who will assist the school and charity with sponsorship and fundraising events throughout the year. The team at Oakwood will also offer their services by helping the winning charity and school to carry out special one off tasks such as improvements to the school playing fields or a make over for the charity’s offices.
Paddy McNamara, Managing Director of Oakwood Theme Park says: “Last year we had a great response, receiving over 100 nominations from local schools and charities. In 2007 we supported the Swansea and District branch of the Myasthenia Gravis Association and St Aidan’s VA School, Wiston. We had a great time working with both over the last year. We had children from the school come to the park to talk to some of our staff about what it is like to work in a theme park. We also helped to set up a mini Board of Directors in June and they came up with some great ideas on how we could improve Oakwood in the future. I think the most exciting thing was when the school composed and wrote a song about Oakwood and then performed it on stage at our new Premier Theatre. We also helped to raise money for the charity through supporting events.
We’ve enjoyed working with both and feel like we’ve had a tremendously positive experience, which we’re looking forward to repeating with our new partners in 2008. We’d like to ask all interested parties to get in touch and tell us why they deserve to be Oakwood charity or school of the year for 2008.’
Anyone can nominate a school or charity by writing to Oakwood Theme Park and explaining why the school or charity should be chosen. In the case of the charity, past work and benefits to the community should be explained. In order to be eligible the school and charity must be based in Wales, demonstrate real benefits to the community, the charity must be a registered charity, and the school must be a school in which pupils spend their days and receive their education.
Nominations should be sent to:

Closing date for nominations is 31 December 2007, with the chosen school and charity being announced in the middle of January 2008.
