Oakwood Charity Day 10.5.09

As Oakwood is my local park I went along today to support the Charity Riders.  The weather was good, warm and sunny with light winds.

There was a great atmosphere at the Megafobia station created by the ride operative - thanks Neil!

I rode along for 35 circuits in blocks of 10,10,8 and 7, arms in the air all the way round each time.

Some pictures of the day are on the club's Flickr site:

Well done team!

Congratulations to the whole team and well done on your completing 35 circuits. Great pics! - so that's what Meggy looks like without rain - camp soaky 2008 Smile

I can say it is one the most amazing experiences to ride a coaster all day for 100 go's and 7 long hours. I can say that it rode as well on the last as it did from the first ride of the day. It will be something to remember I rode the 35 rides with Sue very nice indeed it was to. I also rode with other Andy Knight, Andy Paterson & Amy's Dad (Goodwood ) also not forgetting Mary Knight as well   Very Happy .
They were a great bunch and the support from all the others who came was also greatly received by all. Also not forgetting the ride op who went out of his way at the end to get us to our targets.

A great day it was and the ride opps did a fantastic job even getting the cleaning bucket out to get some more money for the charity a great job they did. The sun was out and the park was very quite with all rides done and more. The park has slightly gone down hill abit with the science part of the park near the kids area all gone and the portions in the dixies dinner place were alot smaller then before to. A great day sill and lots of money raised for the charity to. Pictures are

I had a great time getting my 101 laps on Megafobia. The day had a great atmosphere all round and Neil, the ride op was brilliant. It's the first one I have done and not missed a train.
Video on youtube soon.

Sounds like a good weekend was had by all  Very Happy

Congratulations to all the riders who took part. All day riding on Meggy is no easy task i dare imagine.

Well done!!  Cool

You're right Adamski, it was no easy task. I managed 101 as well which meant 7 hours without the toilet but getting all those bumps which make you want to go!
This was my first charity riding encounter and whilst it was hard it was enjoyable as well. The weather was ideal, the support was awesome, the ride op Neil was fantastic. He even arranged with the bosses that we could stay on after the park closed to get to 100, then did another one for Coaster Andy so he could finish on 100 . We had great banter with him all day, and he created a great atmosphere with us and the public, especially when he started getting donations in a mop bucket. He himself was doing a charity event this week to raise money for the family of an Oakwood employee who recently collapsed and died in the park (on the Meggy Station I think he said)

So thanks to all the people who donated money, to those that supported us at Oakwood and to my fellow riders for making the time pass quickly (ish!). Special thanks to Andrew P for organising the whole thing.

We will post final totals when we have them, but remember there are 2 more events this year, at Drayton Manor in June and at Great Yarmouth in September (I think) with more intrepid riders. If you didn't get to sponsor us, then please sponsor a rider in another event....Great Ormond Street needs the money

101 was the maximum we could have achieved in the time as the ride started late (ride op phoned in sick) and the morning was quiet in the park which meant some waits for the train to fill up.....would have liked more (well now but probably not at the time Smile !) It was also more than I thought I would do!
Now if you were berating me for not doing each one with hands in the air the that would be a fair cop Embarassed

Anyway thanks for the congrats very much appreciated!

Was a great weekend, well done to all who took part. Think you all did amazingly well and raised a great amount of money for such a worthy charity.

The ride op, Neil, was brilliant on the day and think he helped keep you guys going.

Had a good time camping and a good time in the park on the day with Smiler, Nat, Dan and Amy.

Will hopefully get my pics up online soon  Laughing

Thanks for all that took part and came and support, as Kev said there is 2 more events this year, so keep the donations rolling in.

The Oakwood Charity Event this year was my last, I have had 6 great events over the years and rode with some great people. I will still be organising them and will be there at the Drayton Event. There is still time if you want to do the drayton event. The names i have so far are

Andrew Knight
Mary Knight
Rachel Paterson
Richard Jones
Steve Bishop
Hayley Stanton

anyone else interested?

Drayton has a unofficial rider "Thomas Wright" for every go he do's through the day I will donate £1 as I am not in for this one. Shame. but USA is on then never mind maybe again next year as would do it again.

Thomas is to young to ride all day even though this may cost me to donate a £1 a go  Very Happy
