Music

I'm very excited. Paul and I are going to see CSS at The Dome, Brighton, as part of their UK tour.
We saw CSS last year and the much smaller Concorde2 venue.
It seems a fair few bands we've seen at small venues are climbing up the ladder.
We're also going to see the Mercury nominated band Maps at the Brighton Gloucester (Barfly) next week.

Anyone else got concerts lined up?
Coaster_Gal

Its not exactly a music concert, but at the end of this month we're going to see the recording of the next series of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue', in Manchester, I went to see it on tour in Leeds in August, it was such a fun evening lol. I'm sooo looking forward to seeing it again lol.

After a year of big scale concerts i am off to see BEverly Knight in November. Can't wait

Going to see Madness at the O2 soon, then Stereophonics in november. Also going to see Jimmy Carr in november too. Saw The Frattellis in Swindon a few months ago, playing a small gig at a local leisure centre. Bowling For Soup are playing there later in the year, and I think Newton Faulkner is doe to play there as well, which I one I will get a ticket for, cos I think he's a fantastic vocalist.

I am now gong to completly dumb down this section. I am going to see The Spice Girls in Jan 2008 along with my niece's. Can't wait.

I was impressed by your post as my wife and I are going to see Beverly Knight in Liverpool at the end of the month.

You blew when you added the post about the Spice Girls

P.S. We have all tried blaming our nieces and nephews for bad concerts

I have to say i can't really blame them as I brought the tickets. I did go and see The rolling stones and Prince earlier in the year. So that should redeem me in some small way.

Maps were excellent last night.
Brilliant sound, superb musicianship. They're well deserving of their Mercury nomination.

Having watched a little of Steve's clip of Samanda.. well.. it's obvious they can't sing because it's so heavily on the vocal modulation.

I`m going to see Linkin Park at the London o2 (Dome) at the end of January.

I'm rather cross. CSS were performing an amazing set tonight at Brighton's Dome. Then some idiot threw a shoe at lead singer Lovefoxx, and she left the stage.
The rest of the band finished the song and also walked off, but not before one of the guitarists thanked the shoe thrower.
I'm ashamed of British people's behaviour some times, especially as CSS are visitors to this country (even though Lovefoxx is going to marry a Klaxon in a couple of weeks).

A colleague of  mine was at the Ricky Hatton fight at the weekend, and he came home equally ashamed because of the British people booing the US National Anthem, and behaving in a disgusting way.
I would say more, but I'll just put the link up instead.

I have to admit to watching X Factor and to say that I quite like the song. I am sure that his admission had done nothing to enhance what little street cred I have.
I will say however it is not a patch on the original.

I really wanted Rhydian to win, just because he was different. Then again I think I would much prefer to see him in a stage show as that is where his talent truly lies and then at least that way he won't be forced into releasing some truly terrible song.
Big Stevie B

I just watched Top Of The Pops and am gutted that the X-Factor guy got to number one. The song is instantly forgettable and he has the charisma of a grape. I stopped watching X-Factor this year after the audition shows. The format is to predictable and over done now. What is wrong with Britain? Keep putting the winner at the top of the Christmas chart even though they are one hit wonders or don`t deserve it. Every Christmas we have to watch a memory clip of there X-Factor journey. Boring! It`s the same every year now. Please put somebody else at number one next year.

There is some good news though. Today (Christmas) at 3pm, Queen are going to make a speech.  Wink
That's awesome because they have been very quite for years now. Freddy rules!  Laughing

I`m going to plug this here.

PLUG!

PLUG!

It`s Michael Jackson`s first single on his return. It`s a track from the new updated Thriller 25 years album. It`s Michael and Will I. Am from the Black Eyed Peas. A remake of `The Girl Is Mine`. Admittedly it`s not my first choice for Michael`s came back but it will do to have him back on the current music scene. Until the brand new album is released anyway.
This is out on January 28th.

Did i mention PLUG!?

Absolutely not.

For starters Opera and Light Operas (like Starlight Express) and even  'Musicals' are at completely different ends of the spectrum and totally different artforms.
And definately they can be performed in different countries at the same time, as well as by different perfoming companies at the same time.

An obvious case in point is 'Joseph and his technicolour whatsit' which is running in the West End - starring Lee Mead, and also on tour around Britain at the moment, starring some of the runners up from the talent competition.

However, there are restrictions between certain Professional and Amateur productions of the same show, and also a producer can hold 'sole rights' to a show, which then can mean it cannot be perfomed by anyone else within the set restrictions.

However a production such as Les Miserables - which has been performed in 38 different countries, and although not in all of those at the same time, many versions have run concurrently, alongside the edited 'Schools' production, which is available for Amateur performance.

Here endeth the 'theatrical' lesson!!  Laughing  Laughing

Blood and guts? Could ye tell me where I can see this one inside the London area after the 1st February, please? I'm fairly interested! Twisted Evil

Does the production contain as much blood and gore as your post gives me the impression of, though? Smile
(I'm currently seeing a vision of the inside of an Abbahtoir after a particularly fast and furious day, so it'd be easiest for me to compare it with that in terms of scale! Cool)

Beg your pardon sir, but that is a complete stereotype! ShockedLaughingSmile
Most of us Metalheads do have a respect for property etc, and as a general rule we behave more than reasonably. Sometimes we might scribble something witty and amusing in the bogs, but only if there is already graffitti in there and the loo looks run-down beforehand! Cool
The main reason our gigs are standing room only is because - For the most part - We prefer to stand. Besides, trying to "headbang" or play air-guitar in a stadium seat is very difficult! Razz

Back top stereotypes: Ye should have seen the number of surprised looks that I got yesterday when I offered my seat on the tram to a senior citizen who'd just got on. Bear in mind that I was in my usual sleeveless shirt with my 1/2" spiked bracers on, and most people probabally thought that I'd be the last person to offer up his seat! Very HappyTwisted Evil

On the other hand, I will add that some Metalheads in large groups (Over 500 people) do seem to exhibit chav-like behavior, most notably at Wacken Open Air. I havn't got an explanation for this, but I suppose that it could be a part of human nature... Confused

Firstly I'm not 'Sir', I am - in the context you used - 'Madam'

And secondly ... Yes I agree I did use a stereotype, however, I was trying to illustrate the point that there are all sorts of 'music gigs' and not all of them are for people who want to 'headbang', play air guitar or dance, or even consider it acceptable to write on the walls in the toilets.

It is horses for courses - certain bands play in certain venues, because it suits the types of audiences that they attract.
Now, you wouldn't expect an audience member for a concert of the BSO to stand and headbang through a Beethoven Symphony would you?
