Newark Airport

We have just arrived home after flying back from the USA last night.

Something quite frightening happened at Security at Newark, basically it was a total lack of security.

There was quite a long line of people going through to have bags checked etc but when we got down to the front of the line all we could hear was officials telling people to put any liquids in the flight bag as they did not have time to check everything. To make matters worse some bloke in front had a 600ml bottle of diet pepsi that he was going to put in the bin but he was allowed to walk through with it and take it on the plane Shocked

It makes you wonder just how safe the Airport is and why are they not as strict as they should be considering one of the hijacked planes on 9/11 came from Newark.

I flew into Newark last year when I went to New York, and it was the fastest immigration procedure ever. The guy just looked at my passport, did the photo and fingerprint and waved me on. I was out of the airport less than 20 minutes after landing!

I do know it's a pit of an airport though. It was very dirty when I was there, and lots of overhead screens were out of order. I saw a vending machine with the front smashed in, and the waste bin used to smash it still embedded in the front!
The landlord of the B&B I stayed in also told me the airport is in a notorious high crime area, and has been known for illegal taxis to pick up weary passengers and then take them for all their money and luggage.

Funny you say that about Taxis as when we landed and were making our way to the airtrain to pick up the hire car there were a couple of "cabbies" trying to pick up fares.

It took us ages to get through immigration but in fairness quite a few planes had landed at once. You are right about it being a dump, it is a very shabby place.Mind you the BA lounge in the terminal is lovely Cool

Same during last years club trip, but I suppose after so many people saying their reason for visiting the US was because we're all Koaster Krazy they gave up and waved us on.
