New Image ViewerHi all,
As I'm always trying to make our website better for you, I am always looking to add new features.
One of the comments I have received from people on club trips is that they would prefer a better way of viewing the pictures on the trip reports pages. Currently when you click on an image it loads in a new window and you have to hit back, then select the next picture.
So, I have now added some funky new image viewer code that will show the picture on the same page, and give you buttons to either go forwards, backwards - or hit play for a slideshow. Hopefully this will be a much easier way of displaying the pictures going forward. I have left the format of the page exactly as it was, so if you click on any image in the series, the slide show/forward/backward buttons will work from that picture in the sequence.
For now, I have only modified the Oakwood Trip report so you can try it out. Please first go and look at the original report:-

Then have a look at the same page with new code which is here (not linked yet on main site):-

Once you have had a look, please vote on this, so I get an idea of it's popularity. The vote is only open for 2 days, so I can start on converting all the old trip reports this weekend.
I hope you like it!
Thanks!

As Colin said, a great improvement particularly as you quit and go back at any time. Well done Matt.

Hail Matt!
Cheers for installing that code mate...It'll make viewing trip photos much quicker and easier than opening everything in new windows/tabs! Ye've done some excellent work there, if I may say so!
From a technical view-point, I was especially pleased to see that the new photo viewer doesn't interfere in any way with the traditional form of browsing, if that's what the user prefers. I normally surf with Javascript turned off (Firstly for security, and also because I'm not that keen on Web 2.0) and when viewing the Club pages I normally open photos in new tabs out of force of habit.
However - Even with Javäscript enabled for the RCCGB site - I found that I was still able to open photos in new tabs or use the "Save Target As" feature if I so wished, and the script additions didn't hamper either action at all. In my view, the new RCCGB image viewer is a good example of how Javäscript should be implemented on websites!
Farewell for now, and congratulations again on an excellent job well done!
