Nemesis noise to loudNemesis is 'roaring' around the track louder than ever in 2009, causing many locals to complain.
More than 20 complaints were received by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council from Alton residents, who said the sound could be heard from outside the park.
One local resident, Dr Jack Eardley, said: "It's loud, it's intermittent and we can hear it in every room of the house. The noise is uncharacteristic."
The problem has been caused by new tyres fitted to the ride over the closed season, prompting Alton Towers to apologise to the villagers.
A spokesperson for the resort said: "We are aware that there has been an issue over the noise coming from the Nemesis roller coaster this week, and we are in a position to resolve it imminently.
"We're very sorry that this has been an issue for some of our locals, and would like to reassure them that we will continue to monitor the situation."

I thought it sounded louder than normal. We could hear it from Hex, and just thought the noise was getting carried on the wind. That was until we got to Forbidden Valley, blimey

I always think there is something quite soothing and magical about the noise that Nemesis makes.............One thing I noticed about AT is the number of fields that surround the park....absolutely no noise from tractors then

Well, I can't hear it from Rocester so I think it should be made louder still.

I'm sure the residents of Alton and Farley, and maybe even Denstone would love you.
The scary thing is, sitting by Hex munching away I could tell exactly where the train was on the track.

But...I can understand that it'd be a pain for anyone living immediateley next to the Towers, and - Though I'd rather the new wheels stayed firmly on - I understand fully that AT will go back to using the old ones soon.
Damn...If only I'd been able to make AT on the way up to the 'Bash, or known about the side-trip that people were taking on Monday...
Farewell...

It'd be interesting to know how many Db its pushing out at the moment - it must be very loud indeed.

I noticed how loud it was to, very unusual. It is a cool roar as it is a reall trade mark of the B&M coasters, but I'm sure you'd soon get bored of it living near by.
On a similar not I love the noise Stealth makes as it runs into the brakes. Very sad I know!!

Perhaps we should all purchase a house nearby Alton Towers because I'm sure none of us would complain about the noise.
I know it is probably frustrating for the residents but its not as if its early mornings or late at night.
I love the "roar" of the ride and it adds to the adrenaline buzz

Its a fair point - most people would be at work during these type of hours, apart from weekend. I can imagine it'd be frustrating if you work nights and are kept awake during the day with the noise.
For me, there's some noises that are quite pleasurable - aeroplane flying over, hammering noise in the distance, lawn mower on the go.......Nemesis roaring.

The excessive noise of Nemesis at the moment is due to Alton being supplied with the wrong compound of wheels.
It has a sound very similar to Kumba and Montu at Busch Gardens, however with it being enclosed more than those two it makes it very, very noisy.
I was told it is currently 103 decibels. But this wont be the case much longer as when the right wheels come they will be put on as soon as.
