Michael Jackson mania?Hail all!
This is more or less a reply to Big Steve's post about getting tickets to see Michael Jackson...But I also wanted to open a discussion about how many people are trying to cash-in on Jackson's return, without the blindest bit of consideration or thought for genuine, long-standing MJ fans - Who have probabally all been pushed aside in the mass rush to profit off of buying/reselling tickets to his comeback tour.
| Big Stevie B wrote: | So myself, Carol Hodgson and Marie are now seeing the icon!
Anybody else have any luck with tickets? | Admittedly, I'm no fan of MJ myself so I'm not in the slightest bit bothered about seeing him live. I do like a couple of his songs, though.
(As it is, I saw MJ in the flesh on the 6th as I was part of a group that meets in the pub opposite the Drury Theatre each month. I can't say that I understood the excitement of everyone else there though...I took a brief glimpse at him as he (And his decoy) came out of the theatre, then went back to my pint! )
What has not escaped my notice however is how the whole country seems to have decended into a "Jackson Mania" of some description. Not three weeks ago, no-one (Bar dedicated 'Jackson fans like Steve) was giving the blindest bit of thought to MJ and what he was doing now...But after his announcement of a so-called "comeback" tour, every radio station around has dusted off the Jackson discography, and he's getting more airplay now then he did back in the 90's!
It's rather strange that - When he was the subject of certain allegations - Virtually no-one wanted to have anything to do with him or his music. Yet now - After dissapearing from the media spotlight, then returning again - Suddenly everyone's a 'Jackson fan once again!
(It's at this point I feel sorry for the genuine fans like Steve who stuck with MJ through thick and thin. Although Steve's managed to get tickets to MJ (Presumably at the O² Arena) I bet there must be a number of other dedicated fans who wern't as lucky... )
Incidentally - If any genuine MJ fans are still looking for tickets - All of the general public ones sold out long ago (Mostly to gr33dy eBay touts, I hate to say! ) but if ye are willing to spend about £800,- a head, TicketMaster still appear to have VIP packages for sections A1-A3 (Right in front of the stage, with celebrities seated in A2) on certain dates...And IMO they're a much better deal than any of the offers on eBay at the moment.
Farewell...

it was reported that someone had put 4 tickets on ebay for a whopping £10,000 and people were actually bidding on it.
i must admit im a jacko fan but to be honest the o2 is not the easiest of locations to get to so ill give it a miss.
i had a back stage access all areas vip pass to all his last concerts at wembley stadium and watching from the side of stage the show was absolutely brilliant.michael is a perfectionist.
back stage was all carpeted out for him with his own no go area arcade with at least 30 arcade games.
now hes 50 i think he his going to struggle to do the amount of shows that have been booked without having a meltdown. if you are still after tickets there will be 36 dates and reports of even more to be added.
why hes not doing wembley stadium again i dont know cos that holds 95,000 at a time.

He is at the O2 because its down the road from me! He knew.
I have total faith in MJ and can`t wait to see him, when he does Billie Jean its gonna be amazing. I think he will pull it off and so do the O2 or they would have not have put that much of a gamble in him during a credit crunch!
Credit crunch and he sold out 50 dates. That's 50 dates, within 5 hours.
As for the people that have bought tickets to make money from it. I hate them! They are stopping genuine fans from seeing him. I know lots of people and friends who have missed out on the chance. Now they are gonna have to take a chance on the black market and pay the earth. That could have been me and he is gonna be 15 minutes from my house.
Its like taking Saw and putting once only tickets out and you lot don't get any. But people who hate rides try to sell you one for £300! Riping you off. Because its your passion and they wanna ride you for as much as they can. Makes me sick.
Ive had an argument with a former friend at work who did this. Then tried to sell me tickets for £250 each! Then he wondered why i told him what i thought of what he did, he just looked shocked lol. Well that's passion for you.
I have long time Jackson friends that have got tickets, as well as me, Carol and Marie. That's a bonus because we are long time fans.
Ive had a week of Sick Mj jokes and people trying to rip me off lol. Getting dull now. But! But! I have the golden ticket isn't it. I just wanna see him perform live.

I know lots of people and friends who have missed out on the chance. Now they are gonna have to take a chance on the black market and pay the earth. That could have been me and he is gonna be 15 minutes from my house. | Aye, I had a browse around eBay on Sunday night and saw several such auctions with bids. Truth be known, I was so incensed at seeing such touting going on that I actually took a screen-grab of the eBay listings page, then spent an hour plus writing an e-mail to TicketMaster to complain about the matter and ask that they do something about it ASAP!
They sent me a response back yesterday, although I found it rather hard to understand as it seemed to have been typed out by someone with the Monday mourning blues. Reassuringly enough though, it sounds like I'm far from being the only one who's raised the issue with TM...And it sounds like they are going to try and do something about it if possible.
If anyone's interested, I'll PM them the letter I sent and the response I received upon request.
What does make me laugh out very loudly though is that - Because the tickets themselves won't be produced until about two weeks prior to the event - The "tickets" that people are trading on eBay at the moment are actually purchase confirmation e-mails from TicketMaster. Although those e-mails are a guarentee that the recipient has got x tickets reserved for sending to them, if TicketMaster can identify the e-mail addresses of eBay touts (Should be available under the Freedom of Information acts) and correlate that with their own info from the bookings database, then I can see a lot of touts having their tickets cancelled by TM and receiving a letter about how such touting is unacceptable, if not downright illegal!
On a sub-note though: After seeing this and the issues behind it, I'm now starting to feel bad - And possibly even classifying as a hypocrite - About last year, when I listed two spare tickets to Wacken Open Air on eBay shortly after the festival had sold out (Iron Maiden were headlining). Although I started off the listing at just under cost price (£60,-/€90,- per ticket, with zero P&P charges) the tickets still wound up selling for about 360% of their face value.
Should I have done that sale any differently to how I did? The tickets were genuinely spare (I'd bought four for myself and three friends, but two couldn't attend) but I am starting to wonder if the timing at least was questionable...
| MrDJ wrote: | | i must admit im a jacko fan but to be honest the o2 is not the easiest of locations to get to so ill give it a miss. | IIRC; The O² Arena (The Millenium Dome) is very easily accessible via public transport. The Jubilee line runs underneath the venue itself (Use North Greenwich station), it's served by several riverbus routes from the city centre, and - If ye have to drive - The venue is right outside the southern end of the Blackwall Tunnel!
If I may ask: Whereabouts are ye located? I've become a bit of a railway enbthusiast over these past couple of years, and I'm sure that I could find ye a rapid and affordable way to London if I know what thy local station is!
| MrDJ wrote: | | why hes not doing wembley stadium again i dont know cos that holds 95,000 at a time. | I just looked up the capacity of the O² Arena on Wikipedia, and I'm surprised to see that it only holds 20,000. Didn't the original main arena seat about 100,000 when the Dome was being used for the Millenial celebrations?
At a guess though, I'd say that it's either due to concerns over the weather (Too hot/cold/wet), or because it might clash with the Commonwealth Games or another major sporting event at Wembley.

Well that's passion for you. | Like I said in my OP: There are still VIP tickets available at TicketMaster if ye can afford/are willing to pay about £800,- per head. Looking at a lot of the recent eBay listings, buying full-price VIP tickets would be a better and more value for money option than buying off of eBay touts. If I was going to see MJ myself - Despite being something of a skinflint - Id've probabally bought a VIP package for myself in this case.
Also: TicketMaster have a Ticket Exchange service, which most genuine MJ fans with unused tickets would hopefully use to sell on their spares. Also, TicketMaster own a child website called Get Me In! which acts as a trading platform for people with a genuine need to trade tickets to do so without pulling unreasonable eBay-esque prices.
