Merlin Get HealthyVisitor attractions and theme park operator Merlin will invest in improving its offer of healthy food at its attractions.
As part of the scheme, the company has enlisted the help of leading children’s food and nutrition expert, Annabel Karmel MBE, and will introduce her range of healthy food options.
The new dishes on the menu at Merlin’s attractions will include fish pie, mild thai curry and pasta dishes, and will be made available in time for the Easter brake.
As well as the new Annabel Karmel meals, Merlin will also be introduce a new range of fruit and vegetable snack pots such as carrot sticks and houmous, new lunchbox options containing healthier sandwiches, fruit and snacks and new menu designs aimed at encouraging visitors, particularly kids, to choose the healthiest options.
Gary Henderson, Merlin’s head of group commercial development, said: “Improving the nation’s diet is a huge and highly political issue, and not one which an attraction company can ever look to solve.
“That said, we can do our part, regularly reviewing our menu choices in line with changing tastes; and making sure that our traditional and most popular dishes are cooked well, using fresh ingredients wherever possible.”

On the KFC/ obesity thing I think it's appaling that you can only by a 3 piece meal and not a 2 piece meal. How can Merlin encourage healthy eating in a bid to help the obesity problem when this is going on in their parks.

It is nice to see that they are trying to get us all to eat better at a park. But to little I think. The problem is when you go to a theme park it is burger bars and junk food stands every ware we look. We as a nation are not really given the option. The other thing is a day out is suppose to be fun and having something which is not good for as a treat.
I myself is on a diet so taking my own food as I cannot eat all that junk food at the moment.
I think better sandwich bars which sell great sandwiches and baguettes filled with things we want in it.

I think the main problem is you want to eat good food and you want it fast. Thats why KFC et are so popular. With a short opening day you dont want to waste time eating!!
