Madrid Theme Parks

Hayley and me took a 6 day trip to visit the city of Madrid and take in the two parks close by. We stayed over the road from the Principe Pio train station. It was a great starting point and we could see the Abismo from our room.

Parque de Atracciones de Madrid
On our first day we decided to walk to this park which seemed very close. Its was not easy and very hilly! We found a metro station next to the park on the way out which was much easier. It was Batan on line 10 and only two stops from our station. Anyway onto the park.

Its a very nice park on the scale of Chessington with bigger rides. It has some nice themeing in places but in others is very plain. The first coaster we did was Abismo the Maurer Sohne Skyloop. I really enjoyed this coaster and thought it was a real novel design. You really hang from your seat on the way over the lift hill!! The Trantula was a large spinning Maurer Sohne which was good but not a massive spinner, but a fun ride. They had an inverted Intamin which is as smooth as Colossus!! Not overly impressed but felt smoother at the back. The two kiddie coasters we missed as we had no kids and the lack of Spansh meant we didn't manage to borrow any! They had some good flats including a Huss Rainbow, Drop Tower, Top Spin, a new Disko. Over all a good fun park which is open until midnight!

Parque Warner
This is a larger park in the town of San Martin de la Vega outside Madrid. Its easy to get to, we took the Renfe over ground train from Atocha on line C3 changing at Pinto to line C3a to Parque Ociho (Spelling).

This is a former Six Flags park and is mostly themed to the standard of Universal Studios, so very impressive. They have lots of the Warner characters everywhere. The first Coaster we tried was Coaster Express, and its was BAD! Everything about it was rough, which was disappointing as it looked great. There was zero airtime and lots of pain, I found leaning forward helped.

Next up was Batman la Fuga which is a very intense invert. Lots of stuff packed into a small space and a good coaster. We queued for ages in the station as it didn't open with the park but there were no signs so when the op turned up he shouted lots of spainish over the mic!

Next Superman which I have to say is the best coaster I have ever ridden! It had some great areas of Airtime especially in the back row on the first drop and some great inversions. We had lots of goes on that. Other than these there was a Tom and Jerry kiddie coaster like Treetops which was good fun and nicely themed and a Giant Inverted Boomerang which as ok.

There were some great support rides and lots of shows but you need to know Spainish, obviously! The one thing I would watch is making sure to check the opening and close times of all the rides to make sure you don't miss something. But a great park which I will definitely visit again.

We were both suprised and sad to hear that. We came back Tuesday so missed all of it, I don't know if we would have got on a plane after seeing that though.

I am shocked after yesterday! I am glad we got back, just awful what has happened!

Despite being a little shaken up about this, we had a lovely time in Madrid, the two theme parks are worth a visit, and if you have kids, well they won't be bored!!! There are heaps for them to do in both parks.

The abismo was excellent, the fear factor crept in a little bit at the top of the lift hill, first time that has happened for a long time! The rapids was brilliant and you actually get wet well soaked! The log flume wasn't bad, if it was timed right you could get soaked twice!
This was empty when we got there for opening and as soon as it got to 2pm , it was busy!!! It did not spoil it though, they were quite quick at loading for the spanish that is! worth a visit, lots of random bits to keep you amused!

Parque warner is worth visiting, allthough it is a long day due to getting up early for the train like Steve said.
The woodie is a mistake, just do it the once to get the credit and thats enough! Don't do what we did and go on it again as the queue was short! It makes the ultimate (Lightwater Valley) look smooth! How is it possible for the lift hill to be painful?? I was very disappointed by this as it looked  very impressive!
Batman was brilliant, try to get a go on the front, it was worth waiting an hour in the station before it opened!
Superman is just amazing! The back row, on the end seat is very intense. The only problem with this is the loading, this was the slowest ride to be loaded throughout the whole park!

Again like Steve has already said, get your credits done and then do the rest of the park as the day will just fly by.

It makes the Mouse at Blackpool feel like a new B&M!  Laughing

Yep agree with your comments from your spanish madrid adventures.

Parque de  attraciones: Abismo is very good coaster . . . unlike Drytons G-Force whicj isnt a very good coaster haha. The Tornado ride is very odd and not very good at all really. The problem with this park is that they dont have a re-ride-able coaster. Nice park though.

WBMW Mardid: Great park in the middle of nowhere haha. The Superman floorless is awesome. Probably the best Floorless i have been on. The woodie, probably the worst i have been on. The back seat was just soooooo painful when we rode it last year. Shocking!! Great park though.

Glad you had a great time and that you missed that unfortunate air collision.

Glad you had a good trip.

Shame about Coaster Express - it does look good, and I've been looking forward to it especially as Sky have been using it in their ad. I'm a front seat girl so is it rough there or is it just the back that's bad?

We are off to Madrid on Thursday morning. Parque Atraciones in the afternoon/early evening. WBMW on Friday. On Saturday we are driving over to Tarragona where we will stay for 2 days. Caribe water park Saturday afternoon and mayber Port Aventura in the evening. Sunday full day at PA. Home on Monday afternoon.

Will report back and let you know how our trip goes.

I quite enjoyed Coaster Express and didn't find it too rough. From memory we rode it near the back. As long as you brace yourself it's fine. I wasn't expecting any AIRtime as the track isn't really designed for that, more as a mad big big woodie experience like Son of Beast.

Have to agree that Sueprman is the best floorless so far and one of the best steelies.

My only gripe with the Spanish parks is the queue jumping, it's a national sport that they're very good at. Whilst queueing for Abismo I had over 30 people jump in front of me and on a coaster with such a low capacity it added a significant amount of time to my queueing. Also wasn't impressed my lapbar wasn't checked at all on Abismo.

By the time I got to Superman at Warner I had sussed the queue jumping malarky and as a single rider just walked the entire length of the 45minute  queue shouting "Uno" and was in the front row within a couple of minutes.

Queue jumping is terrible!! Spain is the worse I ever seen in it, they just don't seem to understand the concept. Although luckily for this trip the parks were so empty.

We only braved two rides on Coaster Express and they were both roughly in the middle. Lean forward to prevent the slams!

If your heading PA way then Aquapolis is a great water park and very close. They have some excellent rides.
