Luna Park, Melbourne

Whilst we've been suffering a year or so of unusually wet weather Melbourne in Australia has been suffering from a drought. This has caused problems with Luna Park's 1911 Scenic Railway Wooden Coaster drying out.

To quote the February 2008 Old Glory magazine quoting Luna Park's Executive Director Mary Stuart "There is no doubt climate change is having an impact on the Scenic Railway. The structure is being effected by the drying out of the water table and soil movement, in the same way that our older buildings are showing signs of the impact. The Scenic Railway is a treasure and we will do all we can to restore, protect and preserve it for the enjoyment of future generations of Australians."

The Scenic Railway is heritage listed so I guess they've little choice but to preserve it, though I guess they needn't have spent money to reprofile one of the summits which is what the short news item impies.
