Funland Hayling

Took a short trip over to Hayling Island this Sunday to try out the new Afterburner. The fair was quite busy for October mainly due to the half term. Writbands are currently £5 all day with rides open 12-5.

We did only a coupld of rides as we weren't there for too long, rode the Klondike Gold Mine which seems to be faster than usual but still a bit on the rough side!! Woodys Coaster was ok, had a little spin on the Cauldons and then 2 goes on the Afterburner. I have to say this is an excellent ride and much better than Vortex, the swings are faster and seem higher. For a small ride it certainly packs a punch and at only 4 tokens or £2 its quite a bargain really!!

The afterburner (eagles claw) at lightwater valley is a lot better than Vortex as well. It also spins faster and goes higher like you say the one at hayling island does.

Anyone have any ideas as to why Vortex does not do as much as these two afterburners?

Its probably becuase its on a shorter ride cycle, a bigger carriage and maybe its just toned down for a park model. Not really sure but they'd be my guesses.

I think that would be the case if it has shorter arms, that would make it slower wheresas the Vortex would spin faster if it has longer arms.

I odn't think the size of arms has anything to do with to be honest. Its probably due to the lighter carriage, 4 sets of seats instead of 6 (i think vortex has six) well you get the point. Plus all of the Thorpe rides seem to be on a conservative setting. Prehaps its a maintanence thing who knows.
