EurovisionI'm tweeting semi final 1 at the moment.
Wonderful horrors from Belarus, a munchkin from Czech Republic and a refugee from a hair commercial from Montenegro.
Belgium Elvis no.
I quite like Sweden.

So you too are a Eurovision fan just like me then Nimmykins?
I missed Eurovision Semi Final 1, but recorded it, so will watch it tomorrow. Tonight I saw semi final 2 until around 9:30, but then switched off in case they revealed any qualifiers from semi-final 1 in a highlights bit between close of voting and announcing tonight's results. So I'll see the last half hour of the second semi tomorrow after seeing the first. You know, I don't want to spoil the surprise. At this moment in time I don't want to know who qualified from Tuesday or tonight.
I'm looking forward to the grand final on Saturday night, are you? Maybe I'll sing and/or dance along with some songs.
Remember at the Blackpool Bash "Black and White" night last year, when Nev announced the 2009 theme would be "Wild West", someone else called out "Eurovision" (I think it was the ones who mimicked Verka Serduchka). Do you think they ought to make the Saturday night fancy dress theme Eurovision one year? Only snag is, what appropriate costume would one find to dress in? Dress as a past Eurovision contestant, e.g. put on red, royal or pale blue short sleeved shirt, white trousers and gold boots as in Herreys (Sweden 1984 - "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley")?

I hate to say it in front of fans of the event, but to be honest I've never really seen the point of Eurovision!
After all, a lot of the - Supposedly British - Acts that we enter aren't really what one could call "Talented" or "Artistic" in many ways (Who can forget the Gods-awful Fast Food "Rockers"? ), many of the artistes/groups appear to be especially formulated for the competition and don't seem to have a history or reputation in their home countries, and to be honest the only Eurovision act I've ever seen that I would consider a proper entry (As they're a long-standing band) would have to be Lordi's winning performance of "Hard Rock Hallelujah" in 2006CE!
I'll try and dig up a bit more on the intended nature of Eurovision if I get the time later tonight...But to be honest, the only joy I get from it is hearing our own generally unknown acts earning a resounding nil point from every other country!

Well Death, I didn't like that song at the time it won, but I've since noticed it's excellent for singing on boisterous rides at theme parks, e.g.
Thunderbolt at Flambards
Dragon's Claw at Adventure Island, Southend-on-Sea
Bling at Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool
Vortex at Thorpe Park
Have you ever ridden any of those?

Anyone from Hampshire holding a Eurovision party? Radio Solent are looking for someone to talk to on the Sally Taylor show. It would be a phone in so no need to come to the studio.

Generally speaking; If one is scheduled to join in a radio or television phone-in, they should be near the telephone no less than five minutes before programme start - Or 19:55 in that case!

Not necessarily. At work we regularly have phonos or TV lives where it's much less time, sometimes seconds. I've done a live before where I've literally pulled up put the radio cam on the camera, turned it on and the presenter back in the studio was asking the question for the throw to us. You could see the camera bobbing up and down where I was still catching my breath.
One presenter rarely comes in the studio more than 2 minutes before on air. Sometimes they're not even mic'd up till less than a minute to go. A nightmare for us noise boys who need to get microphone level.

Cracking stuff, shame Portugal didn't do as well as I would have liked.
Following the tweets and tweeting myself, was brilliant.

Watched it for the first time ever, as it was on down the pub. We actually did pretty well, me thinks. Those Romanian girls were rather cute

I watched the grand final last night, and enjoyed it.
At the start Dima Bilan performed his winning entry from last year "Believe". I sang along with the BBC singalong lyrics. Well I felt I had to. Dima won last year’s Eurovision Song Contest with this; and a few weeks ago I tried singing this in the Gong Show at the Blackpool Bash, and was voted worst Gong Show act of the night.
Didn't Norway do well. A runaway victory, 169 points ahead of runners-up Iceland. Now Norway have won three times: 1985, 1995 and 2009. That's a long gap between wins, 14 years.
The UK song finished 5th. I'd sooner it had been 2nd and Iceland 5th, as I felt it was better than Iceland. Nonetheless 5th is our best placing now since 2002, would you believe? In the intervening years we've come last twice (2003 and 2008), one of which was with nul points (2003).

I'm still enjoying the music from the Eurovision
Especially:
Hadise - Dum Tek Tek (Turkey)
Arash and Aysal - Always in my Heart (Azerbaijan)
Waldos People - Lose Control (Finland)
and the romanian entry - Balkan Girls

Just been buying up a few of the official Eurovision CDs for the last few years. Just listened to 2001 and 2006.
More disks should drop through the door soon! Exciting stuff!
