disney in blackpool

this was in blackpools local paper

DISNEY could be destined for Blackpool!
That's the dream revealed by Coun Peter Callow, leader of Blackpool Council, as he chatted to on-line readers during a live debate on The Gazette website.

The Town Hall chief was quizzed about any possible plans to put a major attraction on the resort's central car park.

Kevin said: "The town needs a major attraction on the central car park whether its Legoland or something else."

Coun Callow agreed the area needed something to provide the "wow factor" and the magic of a Disney-themed attraction could be the perfect solution.

He said: "Obviously we want a major attraction for the central car park site, something with the wow factor that will have a changing face to bring visitors year after year.

"We would hope for some sort of Disney attraction."

But he said there was "not much money sloshing about accross the Atlantic at the moment."

He added: "Timing is crucial for us to go out to the international market."

Another idea cooked up during the live web chat was the re-introduction of 'Round the Bay Cruises'.

BillR said: "I would like Blackpool to become a seaside town again with pleasure boats up and down the coast. The sea and all its pleasures seem to be ignored these days. Please Peter bring back the Round the Bar Cruises."

Although Coun Callow used to work for the family-run business, he said it was unlikely the boats would return to the resort.

He said: "As a youngster I helped the Salthouse family with their pleasure boats. Their stand was situated opposite The Manchester Hotel.

My cry was 'Right around the bay now, it's lovely out on the water!' Sadly, those days are gone."

Other hot topics debated during the live web chat included the Talbot Gateway development, Blackpool and the Fylde College's proposed move to Central Drive, the Tower Headlands and improvements to transport links.

Coun Callow added: "When I was a child I thought that Blackpool was the greatest place on earth. I want our young people to feel the same nowadays. Putting pride back into Blackpool is my top priority. "

Blackpool Council were offered the chance to have Euro Disney built here instead of in Paris....The Pleasure Beach spat their dummies, the council bowed to the pressure & it went to Paris.

To put it very bluntly, Peter Callow & his wife (who are both Councillors), talk out of their backsides. I tried to ask questions in this "web chat", but there was a delay so the content could be vetted, consequently none of my questions were put to him as they required the council to actually commit to doing something instead of chatting useless!

Mrs Callow was quoted in the gazette a while ago, as saying the May Day bank holiday must be moved to July as it would be better for Blackpool! What a numpty!

We have no hope here while we have the current people on the Council. It's all very well Cllr Callow threatening to stick a Disney park on central car park.....but has he thought about where all the cars that park there are going to move to. There is no parking in Blackpool as it is thanks to his "stick a yellow line wherever there is a gap" initiative.

Don't hold your breath Adey.....We are so sure that nothing will be built here, that if they did, John & I will change the name of our hotel to the "OLD TRAFFORD"....& THAT will NEVER happen.

I think its funny how he names drops both Disney and Legoland. Its all to drum up publicity I think, becuase I would imagine a few papaers may jump on this thinking or pretending its the truth.

If the Euro Disney in Blackpool was true then that is a shame, it sure pulls in people which could maybe have benefited the Pleasure Beach. Definitely the local businesses.

It is a shame, but the nearest we will get to Disney here is the Council :- i.e. Dopey, Grumpy, Sleepy...need I go on!

lol - so funny and so true.
Happy Helen

How would they fit a Disney Park in a car park ?
Magic

The managed to fit California Adventure in a car park, so Disney could do it again in a Blackpool carpark. But it's never gonna happen, Blackpool doesn't have the same appeal to Disney as say Shanghai, Dubai or maybe Oz.
Happy Helen

No I agree with you.

I would never hold out hope for one in Blackpool as it would be the same in the USA, Dubai or Oz !

Disney in Blackpool would be great so we have more family rides  Very Happy
Happy Helen

Yes, it would be great as they could do with more family rides, whereas at the Pleasure Beach it is mainly white knuckle rides.

Disney in Blackpool ? would be good if it was to happen. I think there should be a Disney park in the uk i have to admit.
