Six Flags reveals strong 4Q

Amusement park operator Six Flags reported a seven per cent year-on-year revenue rise, to $111 million, for the fourth quarter. Attendance in the period rose by one million to 2.8 million, a jump of nearly four per cent.

Have to say I ws impressed with all my visits to Six Flags parks last season. They really seemed to have improved with better quality staff and rides were being oeprated almost to Cedar Point standards. I don't recall having a single complaint about the 4 parks I went to, a complete contrast to visiting their parks in 06.

Lets hope they keep up the good work this year and keep bringing in the families, who have the largest secondary spend, that pays for new rides.

Hopefully they will have turned the corner as for the sake theme park fans they need to do. There is nothing better for us than competition, without it we would not see the amount of new rides we do.

Glad to hear that the staff and operation have improved as well as that has been a longstanding complaint about six flags.

Not all good news?

This report says they are planning to slash operational costs by $50 billion to $60 billion for the 2008 season. That's a major cut - and the report also refers to the removal of inefficient rides.

Of that $50million cut it's been revealed that $30million of it will come from reducing advertising spend with a vast proportion of it being saved by firing one of their three advertising agencies.

Part of the remaining cut will come from removing unpopular and unreliable rides. This saves money by reducing the staffing levels and also by reducing running costs of these unnecessary rides. They believe the staff reduction can be achieved by natural wastage of retiring staff rather than have to make people redundant.

So the way I see it is this massive cut isn't as bad as it first seemed. A much smaller amount of it will affect the quest experience and ride choice with only the unpopular hardly used ones being axed. Which seems logical anyway. By clearing ground it makes space for the introduction of new rides some where down the line when the toruism market picks back up and utilising the improved profit they will have made.

They could save money...instead of the Rattler they could put you in a 50 gallon drum filled with rocks and pitch it down a hill....same effect!

Congratulations, you seem to have items about the Rattler in more sections than anything else. Should we not have a section just for the Rattler (it is called a rubbish bin)

the bottom line profits (or not!!!) have come out for q4 for 6 flags, report attatched (contains some info from the first report in Jan)

Amusement park operator Six Flags announced a narrower fourth-quarter loss of $126.9 million, against $189.7 million a year earlier. The New York-based company said sales rose 7.5 per cent to $112.1 million, while attendance increased by 3.7 per cent to 2.8 million visitors.

now I dont know the full info, but I fail to see that a company that losses 126.9 million dollars in a quarter can stay operating.

The other thing that I thought was what is Q4??? in most UK businesses it would be Jan 1st -March 31st but Im assuming in this report its taken as Oct 1st - Dec 31st??so most of the parks would only of been open for a small amount of time but they would of had the very busy Thanksgiving and Halloween holidays then aswell.

Maybe one of our US peeps could shed some light???
