Blackpool Pleasure Beach fairwell

I will be making one last visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach this year.  To ride Revolution for it's 30th birthday and Big Dipper/Grand National.

After that, unless free entry is brought back, i will not be going there again.

I have many great memories of BPB, especially 1985, 1990 and 1994, but all those memories are being killed off by Amanda Thompson.  She seemed an arrogant woman on Pleasure Beach (BBC One) several years ago and quite frankly I think she has made changes to BPB that are for the worst.

To remove Log Flume and not hire B&M or Intamin to build an inverted coaster is just stupid.  Traumatizer was a bad Vekoma coaster that no one likes, too rough, painful and basically a poor coaster.  But as in BPB tradition, they won't go for B&M because Alton Towers has one.  If American parks thought the way BPB does, there would be no rides.

When Log Flume was removed, I was praying for them to take there time and invest wisely, but obviously that was not going to happen.

BPB 1985 - 2009 24 years of visiting Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

fairwell.

I will most likely be going just the once this season due to how the park treated the now defunct BPB guide. The reason for going for me will be the same as yours, to ride the 30 year old Rev.

I share your views about the park, it has a real touch of arrogance to it where it listens to nobody and just does things how they want to even if common sense would tell you that it is a poor idea.

My hope for BPB is that a Merlin or better still a Cedar Fair will come and run the place properly.

what is BPB Guide?

It was a fan site of BPB.

Basically BPB did not like the fact that we allowed people to voice there opinions good or bad. They decided to send the site owner an email threatening legal action for a couple of mistakes in the opening/closing times and prices that were put on the site. Yet in a press release from BPB themselves they got the year wrong and the opening day wrong!!

I have to agree.  I went to the Travel Show at the G-Mex in Manchester a couple of weeks back and there was a general Blackpool tourism stand there.  My Dad was with us and he basically asked the question as to why they were making it a fiver just to go in to the Pleasure beach.  As luck would have it, there was a representative from the Pleasure beach on the stand and his arguement was basically that they are not only a tourist attraction, but a museum!!! and that this money would go towards the upkeep of the classic attractions...   I had to jump in with a few comments that if this was the case, why they would be opening with 9 rides closed this season, he replied that this would be general maintenance.  So I went with the question of why the hot ice show would not be running, he replied the roof needed fixing.    My dad asked if the Thompsons were still in charge as he is not that well in the know, the chap replied yes, so I said at least for now...  and then he said that I had been reading too many websites!!!!     By this point, my Dad said that by no means would he ever visit the Pleasure beach again as he just likes to wonder through etc  like most familes do, spend the odd quid or two here and there and all the staff on the stand seemed to become rather defensive.

I guess they had a job to do to remain positive and try and promote the Pleasure Beach when they probably know better than most what kind of trouble they are in!

I think I will probably only visit the once this year and that will be the Blackpool Bash.

Ps. Nice Wigan Warriors stuff coastergraham!!!

Thank you Very Happy

As you can tell that is my joint passion along with Rollercoasters, we are off to the friendly game at Leigh in a couple of hours, should be a great if not somewhat freezing cold afternoon.

BTW feel free to copy my avatar and Signature to your pc if you want mate.

I wont even be going this season to the Pleasure Beach.

It costs me alot of money to get up to blackpool from Reading, and the fact that most of the rides that i like to go on are closed, it is just not worth the money i would be paying to go.

Alot of members keep telling me that i should go just for the social aspect, but i can still do Oakwood Loopathon ( if the dates dont interfere with my Florida trip ) and the trip to Thorpe for Saw.

It is very sad that i have to think like this, but the only attractions i would go on now would be the Ghost Train, Alice in Wonderland and The Grand National.

No matter what the park does, the Blackpool Bash is worth going to for the shows and meeting other members. That is worth the cost of the weekend without any rides, they are a bonus.

Yes I agree with you as with Megaglow Mania you would go mostly to enjoy the rides. I liked the social side at the Blackpool Bash especially meeting other members.

I agree with Colin, the social aspect of Blackpool is great - especially after all these winter months of not seeing each other!

A simple socialise and beer and some great rides make for an excellent weekend, and the entertainment is always good. IMHO, the event that is a must do of all of them.

Personally i think Blackpool Pleasure Beach introducing the entry charge is a good thing as it will make it more like a theme park and remove the chavez. Its actually doing people a favor by letting people in at a reduced rate, so family can go along for a safe day out with the family and get more than any Merline park would offer them.

People are saying goodbye Pleasure Beach and saying the will not go. But surly that's only hurting you. For people i know who have in the past bought annual passes to the place because the were fan boys, buy your pass and enjoy the place. You will only add to the parks demise and closure of all our coasters if you reduce attendance numbers.
You could get at the park by having your annual pass and enjoying the park you love. But protesting by refusing to spend any extra revenue with them. Buy no food or drink, don`t use there machines or give them anything extra that you may have before, other than your pass.
I mean. will they really miss the cost of a few passes anyway? Its just you losing the place you love.

Yes, Amanda is rubbish. We know. But i love the park. Don`t want to run it out of business completely.

As for Blackpool Bash, it rules. This year will be my one year since meeting Vicci at last years event. Gonna be well good. Even if last year was tiring because of all the little drama queens and upset. But hey, adds to the fun lol
Plus a good drink as well, love it!  Very Happy  Best group meet up of the year.

People keep saying that the park is going to be sold to someone else but it was in Doris Thompsons will that the park had to be kept in the family for her great great grandchildren which I think will be the current owners children.

Personally I think that Amanda has no interest in running the park - she is only interested in running the hotel - and the only way out of the above clause is to run the park into the ground to the point where it goes bankrupt.

I think the social element of the Blackpool Bash is just as good as the riding element so I shall keep going for as long as possible.

A lot of our guests are not planning on visiting the PB as much when they stay with us. We get a lot of families who would buy wristbands for the kids & then watch them on the rides. The £5 charge is completely stupid, why should people have to pay to be with their children. This will cause problems with Adults unwilling to pay £5 just to walk round the PB, leaving their kids at the gate & collecting them later. There will be more unsupervised kids, which can only lead to anti-social behaviour. (Although there are a few adults who cause trouble in parks). It seems to us, that parents/guardians are being penalised for trying to do the right thing.

Our son has renewed his season pass for this year....this will probably be his last though as it does not represent good value for money.

From our point of view, the social aspect of the Bash is fantastic..we have made some good friends over the last few years & it is by far, the best weekend of our working year! Very Happy
