Blackpool Pleasure Beach - April 22nd

Park opening hours 10:30-17:00

First visit of the season to Blackpool and after the past couple of days at Alton Towers BPB had a lot to do to live up to, so did it manage it? Pretty much it has to be said as it was a superb day out and a great ride count as well.

We arrived as the park opened and went straight to the new ticket centre, while it was not too bad today I am not sure about busy days as the layout is not the greatest. It does seem a lot of faff getting into the park as well compared to the old system.

The park looks neat and some of the half finished things like the monorail station have been finished off and look better for it.

The new fountains are actually surprisingly good and do add a certain ambience to the park and area, the only thing that we all felt let the spectacular down was people allowed to wander/play in the fountains while the show goes on.

One thing very noticeable today was that the staff were a lot better this season and it really looks as if park management have tried to drum the importance of appearance and attitude as well as doing an efficent job into the staff.

Now for the subject that has caused much debate, the Grand National. The two trains on track today were the blue and green trains. We went on the green train first and noticed it was a touch off the usual pace of the ride. So next time we went on the blue train and stuck with it nearly every time as it was running as well as you could want. The speed was great as was the airtime. The shunting was its usual annoying self in the ride station but the Nash put in a full shift today without a single break down! So all I can say to those who have doubted the Nash, give it another try on your next visit, it is as good as ever and as popular as ever as the trains were going out pretty full most times and the people coming back after the ride had huge smiles on their faces from a great ride.

RIDE COUNT

Infusion - 11
Grand National - 12
Big Dipper - 2
Pepsi Max Big One - 7
Steeplechase - 2
Revolution - 1
Wild Mouse - 12
Avalanche - 1
Iceblast - 1
Derby Racer - 1
Ghost Train - 1
Alice Ride - 1
Monorail - 1

TOTAL RIDES = 53

HIGHLIGHTS

- Nice weather again
- Great ride count
- Grand national as good as ever
- Big One running well as fast train was on track and there was no wind. One thing I noticed about the new track was there is a jolt in the train just as you hit the new track, but still it is ten times better than last year on that section.

LOWLIGHTS

- Ok I mentioned that the staff had improved a lot, however that message seems to have not got to the big one staff as yet again they spent too much time pratting around.
- Infusion has become a real ear warmer, nearly as rough as when it was at Southport. That said I was told that the faster and rougher train was on track today.
- The SBNO rides, people headed to them and stopped dead in there tracks when they saw they were shut. In my opinion the amount of SBNO rides at the moment is way too many and people must surely wonder why they are shut.
- The lack of choice with catering, basically all you could eat today was burgers and fries as a lot of catering outlets were closed.
- How quiet the park was considering all the bogof vouchers in the papers for this month. Also considering the park was closed Monday and Tuesday it is of concern how quiet it was.

Well that's the end of our 3 day jaunt and now we have just over 3 weeks to our next one.

Next stop the USA and Six Flags Great Adventure, bring it on!

Hmm the park was really busy on Saturday and also the kids have gone back to school now after half term so that's probably an indicator as to why it was quiet.

As for the fountains, I think part of their charm is being able to "play" in them, it certainly provided us with hours of entertainment  Very Happy
