BBC Filming at Hayling Island

It's 90% confirmed that BBC South will be at Hayling Island on Saturday 25th April to do a piece about what goes on in an amusement park. The piece should be screened the following week.

If you're in the area why not come down and try and get yourselves on the telly. See if we can RCCGB logos on screen too.
drsarf

Shame it's so far away!
Coaster Police

I'm only down the road in Poole.... i can come along, in all my Club gear.... a bit of PR never hurts for the club - let us know the details nearer the time.
Very Happy
Spanners

I'm off that day and would go along if others are going, it's just over an hour from me.
Are you going along Magic? Question
stealth fan

Darn it, I'm in Southend  Sad
Also read in an old edition of the Portsmouth evening news that they are remaking the Werthers original advert, but filming it at Hayling, and includes them riding Tornado 2.

Hell yeah, another paid day at an amusement park. Might not get in much riding though unless they get me to do the on ride filming.

The person the film will be following is one of the main BBC South presenters. Sadly not Georgie  Crying or Very sad
Magic

Quick update, it now looks like the producer would like to incorporate the RCCGB into the piece and there's a very strong chance that club members will be interviewed as part of the piece.

So even more reason to pop along for some fun.

I'll let you all know for sure hopefully by the end of the week.
Magic

Looks like the date for this may be changed

Just awaiting confirmation from all parties involved. Hopefully that gives more notice to those interested in coming along to get on TV and support a great family owned park.
Magic

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH

Due to a variety of reasons the date has changed AGAIN. The new and, I've been assured, definite date for the filming is Monday 4th May. Filming will take place during the morning.

The piece will be televised either the following Friday or Friday week. It's a pilot for a new strand on BBC South.

In any case it would be good to see a few club members down there who don't mind being in shot. A few of you might even be interviewed to talk about the club, Hayling Island, and your passion for coasters.

Is that Monday a bank holiday if so im there it could be a great meet up  Laughing
Magic

Yes it's the first May bank holiday Monday.
stealth fan

Count me in then, garunteed day off work.

Coaster Toaster

Me and amy are up for this as well
drsarf

May attened now the dates been pushed back. Have to check diary and £s.
Magic

Great to see a few of you can make it.

Don't forget to bring your membership card to get a wristband for £5 and on the 4th May only Marshall Hill is making the cups of tea for everyone.
Magic

I'm being kept in the dark as to who the presenter is going to be. They're new to BBC South and this will be their first piece. I've been reliably informed that she is very well known to viewers of CBBC, Newsround and sport on the BBC News Channel. So if you watch any of those you might know her better than me.
Coaster Police

Not Georgie Palmer then?  Sad
stevencaine

Ellie Crisell Wink maybe
Magic

Afraid you're both wrong. Not met Ellie, but I can confirm Georgie is as lovely in person as she is on the telly. One of the genuine nice presenters in TV. If any one wants a signed photo of Georgie let me know and I'll bring it along on the day.

The person is Lizzie Greenwood

We're definitely in for this one now, we'll have to get up super early to make the long trek across Havant!!

Yes, i believe it is Wink
Coaster Toaster

Were deffo in now as well.

What time are people thinking of getting there??
and how easy is it to park and how much to park??
Magic

Lots of on site parking for £2. I'll be there from 8.30 filming getting the park ready. I think they open around 10.30. We'll be filming till lunch time and possibly into the afternoon.

I think Lizzie is going to have a go at operating Tornado2 so be prepared for a strange ride.
stevencaine

Im a no for this now as some of you may know my car was nicked the weekend and smashed into a brick wall Crying or Very sad
Magic

Sorry to hear that. Shouldn't say this but hopefully the thieving scum got hurt in the crash.
Bambi

What time is everyone getting to Hayling?

Hopefully about 10.00ish.
drsarf

Not sure if we'll be coming yet - having a mooch over it.
Jester

Ouuuccccchhhhhhh  -  Ouch - Klondike bruises - on bruises.
I hope Marcus got all the footage they needed.

Thanks for a great (gr8 - eight of us - get it!) day guys.
I had a fab time - even if it was a tad chilly after lunch.

I second that. Was a pretty good day, although the weather did get a bit bad as the day went on.
Can't wait till it goes on air. Thanks to the Hills for the usual Funland welcome.  Smile
Rogue

Will this be online as well? Cos would love to see the footage
Magic

Thanks to everyone who came along. Shame about the grumpy maintenance guy on Klondyke. BUT the important thing is Pete the producer was very happy with what we got. So thanks for your patience and of course thanks to Marshall for being so helpful with everything.

I'm not 100% sure of the transmission date. That depends on a meeting later this week. But it will be on a Friday and they will be broadcasting live from the park too. Basically the live will link in to the piece we filmed today and then they'll go back live to the park for an interview with Marshall.

Yes it will end up on the web and I'll be sure to post a link when it does.
stealth fan

Good to hear you got all the footage that you needed, and thanks for inviting us along.
Also, was watching South today tonight and they had a small clip on the flat fire near Funland. luckily, everyone got out without injury. I don't think they said how it started, that's probably still being investigated.
bluea61

We had an excellent day also, we may be the only people who can truly tick the Klondike as we have now ridden the complete circuit 4 times!!
Jester

And that includes the bit where it says you are not supposed to be in the train under any circumstances!!  Laughing  Laughing
But carry a Magazine and .....
Magic

I've just watched the piece we filmed the other day and it's excellent, very funny. Every one gets a look in, some get more screen time than others. The dangerous magazine reading stunt is still in too. Really shows off how fun Hayling Island is.

Still waiting for confirmation of the night it'll be shown along with the live from the park. There's a chance it may now be the Friday of the last May Bank holiday weekend. But like the filming of the VT the date is bound to keep changing.
Coaster Toaster

Is it this friday coming that its on??
stealth fan

Keep us posted. Cheers Magic  Very Happy
Magic

Nope not this Friday. We're doing a major OB from Eastleigh Railway celebrating the anniversary if steam.

I think the producer is looking to sync up with the parks annual twins day. I'll keep you updated, hopefully a decision will be made before I go off to China or I might not be able to give advanced warnings.

Yay!! Can't wait to see it all. Very Happy
stealth fan

Anyy more news on when the broadcast will be yet?
Magic

Last I heard from the producer last week is they hope to link it up with the parks annual Twins day.

Twins day is on Saturday 20th June, so the piece would be broadcast on the 19th June, along with a live OB. I'm away now till that week so can't keep you any more updated till then. But that date is looking most likely.
Coaster Toaster

Was it aired on friday does anyone know?
stealth fan

I watched friday, but no, it was'nt on. Will keep a lookout this week.
Magic

Not sure of the latest planned date. Only just got back from holiday and not yet seen the producer for an update.
c anderson

What has happened with this programme or is it in the BBC dustbin ?
Magic

Nope, not in the dustbin. They're waiting for the right week. As it's not date specific they're planning on slotting it in between date specific events.
Magic

Everything is now booked and confirmed for this Friday 14th August. Lizzie will be presenting part of South Today live from Funland and linking into the film that was made a few months ago. If anyone is in the area head down to the park from 6pm and make yourselves known to the camera crew and they might use you some more. The producer, Pete said make sure you do introduce yourselves and not just hide in the back ground.

I won't be there are I'm off to Denmark so hope those who can make it have a fun evening.
c anderson

Thanks for the notice, I have passed it on to some so they can watch it on the BBC website.
c anderson

Here is a link to the item on last night, almost 17mins into the programme for the Hayling Island item, Wendy had a good public relations about the club

You can still watch it on the link above. It will also be on the South Today YouTube channel towards the end of next week when the producer is back from his holiday. I'll put the link here when he does.

That's odd.  I watched it the other days and got exactly what was expected.  I've just tried it again, and got something totaly different.  I wonder if the link always points to the latest edition of the programme
Magic

From when I use to upload video to the South Today website every piece of video had a dedicated link, but this link might be a redirect link to take you to the latest edition rather that the video itself. I'll try and get the files dedicated link when back at work tomorrow.
Magic

The piece is now up on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3Sh6LeiZSo

Nice one Magic.
Thanks for putting that up  Very Happy
