Alton Towers trip report - Sat 16/2

Who Went

- Me
- Caroline
- My Mum

First trip of the season to Alton Towers and a day of contrasts between excellent , annoying and not so great.

We arrived at Alton at 9:20 and found the monorail was closed for a while, the park had put one shuttle bus on to take people to the entrance but we decided it would be quicker to walk due to the size of the queue.

The park opened around 15 mins early so the first thing we did was go to the season pass office to get them exchanged for new version ones, unfortunately swiss family robinson were already in there getting there million and one passes done Wall More people joined behind us shortly after, you could hear people muttering about what does seem to be a waste of time and money, the family behind us only had a few weeks left on their pass but still they had to exchange them.

We headed to spinball first, but it was having problems and was closed for a bit. We then went on the very long walk to Nemesis, you really have to walk it to appreciate just how long the walk is with the via the towers detour due to the mutiny bay area being done.

Overall the queues for the rides were pretty short, in fact the longest queue we saw was in the towers street restaurant after our dinner was had

Ride count

Nemesis - 31
Air - 1 (hard to believe possible but it was slower than it usually is)
Spinball wizzer - 1
Duel - 1
Hex - 1

Total ride count - 35

Highlights

- Nemesis rideage
- Hex being open
- The weather was lovely even though it was a tad cold
- Park not being too busy

Lowlights

- The walking, we love walking but this was one hell of a trek today.
- Nemesis operation, between poor operation, staff messing around, parents trying to smuggle kids who were too small onto the ride and chavs who tried to re ride the dispatch was not as good as usual. A high amount of stacking was seen today. Special mention though for Chris who did a great job on there and did not mess around at all. Shame about the others though
- The usual collection of annoying families, twits and chavs that Alton seems to get more than most parks.

All in all a pretty good day out at what I admit is not my favourite park. Getting all those rides in on my favourite UK ride was just awesome

31 goes on Nemesis !!! Nice one !! - I'm so jealous

I guess thats the re-ride factor of a top B&M  Laughing

Have you done every seat tho? I spent a while ensuring that i'd ridden EVERY seat on it (and Air, Oblivion, Spinball, Mine Train etc. etc) a couple of years ago. It's easy when it's quiet, but gets more tricky when you're down to the last few, especially if you have to spilt up a group of 3 people... try explaining "I need to sit here, because i need this seat - i've already been in that one" and getting them to understand!!!

The most I ever did on a single ride in a day was 37 Oblivions a couple of years ago during a Winter Weekend when X-Sector was open. They had 3 cars going, so after I'd completed the Black Hole getting in all the seats (before it went forever  Crying or Very sad ), I spent the last 3 hours just going mad on Oblivion!

Nice one tho, Nemmy is awsome

I am sure that I have done all the seats on nemmy over the years but on Sunday 75% of the time was on my favourite row, Row 8  Very Happy
