Alton Towers Restricts Smoking

Alton Towers Smoking Restrictions :

http://www.screamscape.com/html/alton_towers.htm

I am a smoker and i think that this is a very good idea, to be quite honest though i dont think it is going to go down to well with the chavs, lol.
Bunnie

Any ideas of how this is going to be enforced?
Magic

All I can say is good. This will help promote a safe family environemnt. Nothing against smokers but non smokers shouldn't be sunjected to other peoples smoke when they don't want to.

But yes how will this be enforced given that smoking in queue lines and queue jumping are already banned and both happen. You can't blame the minimum wage ride ops chosing to turn a blind eye.

It says its the first park in the Uk to do this but dont Legoland and Adventure island do this to. Great idea but what happens if you get court smoking outsite it tho. Gonna be like a new chav hang out area really new for them to in 2008.

Great news and well done Alton Towers  Very Happy

Lets just hope the policy gets policed properly.

I like this idea a lot, like Magic says I have nothing against smokers but it would be such a nice atmosphere if it could be limited. On the most part people are considerate and obey the rules but some people just don't care about smoking in queue lines and not caring where they blow the smoke.

It will interesting how they deal with it from now on.

I smoke, and I hate smoking around people that dont smoke. I dont mind having to go to "bike sheds" to have my quick fix of nicotine lol
hazzzzeeee

I wonder if this a trial, do you think if it goes well they will roll it out to all of the Merlin parks?

This idea works really well in the USA parks so hopefully it will work over here. It depends on how tough its enforced and the discipline of the UK people (and chavs)!!!!

I agree that as a non smoker, someones smoke wafting into your face is un fair.

I suppose its the same as the pub smoking ban - if you smoke, you prob wont like it and if you dont smoke then your prob welcome it.

AD  Cool

I`m a part time smoker. To ban me from smoking in parks takes away another place for me to do it. So go for it! lol

I know Adventure Island does, but not sure about Legoland. I'm a full time smoker, but I'm not too worried about finding a selected area in a park and sparking up. I know the dangers and not really keen on putting others lives at risk.
Any ideas where these places will be? I suppose there will be one at least in each area? The one I know of at AI is under the Station bend to lift peice of track of Green Scream. Also I think Gullivers Milton Keynes did it, obviously because of the young kids there.

I know at the Magic Kingdom at Disney World Florida only allows smokinmg in the one place, round Cinderellas Castle!  However this being the centrepiece is extremly quick and easy to get to from all ares of the park.  At Alton Towers this idea is just not possible to acheive considering there unusual layout and huge spread of attractions.  I think that it should be one smoking zone per area.

Maybe :

Under Airs Lift Hill,
Behind The KFC and Pizza Hut in the X Sector,
Between the Sky Ride Station and Ugland behind the Toilet Block,
Behind the new Burger King and Log Flume,
Behind the Gloomy Wood Food Outlet that the name escapes me,
and possibly an area by the hospitality building?

There should also be a specific area near the right hand side of the monorail station before entering the park?

What do people think of these ideas and do you have any other ideas of where they may be placed?
butler

Ian, I think these are great idea's. Although a non -smoker for many years now i feel that smokers should be given a place to indulge their habit.
coaster-andy

I think this is great and hope it is enforced. Unlike Thorpe park where some still wish to smoke in queue lines. I must say though I have seen it work at Tusenfryd, People just go to this little corner under cover .It will be chav's paradise burburry seating,  model Corsas and Novas to play with for £2 a shot.  Very Happy

This smoking thing is a joke and a laugh.

Iv just looked at their new map and there are more smoking areas than rides in the park lol (ok slight over do)

But seriously they all look like they vertually overlap eachother

I have also just looked at the new park map, and i have to disagree with you a bit Dan.......

Yes i do agree that there are quite a few more areas designated for smoking but it is only because the map is small scale that they look like they overlap each other.

I do think that someone from  Alton Towers has read this forum though as all the areas that i suggested have been used lol.
smiler

This is tough cause when looking at the map it looks like ug land has like 5 or 6 in there alone you can proberly flick you cigarette butt one to another one. Have like one in each area of the park I think. Plus if this is the case 4 or 5 of them in ug land alone hows it gonna happen cant see them putting up fences etc may be a bench with smoking area on it yeah but thats it. See what happens the weekend
smiler

Well for me a non smoker i do feel sorry for smokers. No under cover smoking areas for them part from to one by air (the old time slot machines area) and one by burger king. They are just benches with a small sign there and a pole for a cigarette tray. What a joke o and if you need to find them look very hard for a sign if you can.

I was at AT today, and it was very noticeable that the designated smoking areas were being completely ignored.

I wish the filthy things would be banned altogether.  Smokers can bang on all they like about freedom of choice, but what about my freedom of choice not to be contaminated with their nasty-smelling carcinogens?

It does not surprise me in the slightest that it is being ignored, this country is full of the most ignorant and selfish people on earth.

I`m a part time smoker. Today i`ve not had any for over a week. I will be smoking at the Bash because i`m going to be drinking and socialising with friends.
When i was at the Pirate opening day at Alton. Me and another club member were smoking slightly out of the smoking area. A member of staff did come over to us and ask us nicely to move over to that area. So they have been trying with people.

You do not need to stand next to a smoker!
