Alton's latest publicity stunt

You know the school holidays are coming when Alton Towers send out another ridiculous never gonna happen press release. In the past we've had them considering controlling the weather with cloud seeding and them considering installing a roller coaster purely for babies.

Well this time they've excelled themselves. They're considering installing airport style shoe XRay machines to check kids aren't hiding extra socks and park maps. They want to stop kids cheating to get over the height restrictions. The park wants to speed up height checks and ensure health and safety is maintained.

While the carry on "considering" buying these xray machines the park has now banned children from wearing shoes with heels over 1 inch. This ban came in to effect on the 23rd May.

Am I being cynical or are the honestly looking at buying these machines. And how will they implement them. Will kids put their whole legs in the scanners, surely a hazard, or will they force children to remove their footwear, are they legally allowed to do this?

That is a silly idea as whenever would babies visit Alton Towers.

Height restrictions are for health and safety reasons, but I have never heard of any park installing x ray machines, as it is not the same at Airports as they have to check to make sure if there are things that could blow the plane up. I have never seen kids put their whole legs in scanners which would surely be a hazard or force children to remove footwear.

I have found a floor in the plan. Anything over 1inch is not aloud to ride on the bigger rides. So if you are a inch short can you ride then if it is ok to add a inch to your height.
That said I think that this day in age children s shoe's can have a high heal that looks ludicrous to walk in let alone ride in. My niece had a pair with 7inch heals on them come on if you are 7 inch to short you should not ride the ride rules are there for a reason.
That said I did put socks in Thomas shoe's as he was a nats whisker of 1.1 height but it was a coaster that that much would not have made much different's not that I am advising people to follow my way it was a once off and no way will I do it for a 1.4 coaster.

Thats a lot of socks!!

I'm sure its just pulicity. Can you imagine having to x-ray everyone before they rode. As soon as the park got dark everyone would be glowing!

Yeah I seriously doubt additional socks make any difference whatsoever.

I don't think Thomas will allow that many socks in his shoes he complained with one pair to give in a little height  Laughing
