I have been on that Chinese train..its top speed is 431 kmph/268 mph.

It is fast but unfortunately there are no drops or loops to make it interesting!

Hail Spikey! Twisted Evil
Sorry I didn't respond to this one earlier...I didn't see it as I don't really come on to this sub-forum unless I'm posting a link myself! Embarassed

Many thanks for the video link mate! Have downloaded the thing and will watch it at home! Twisted Evil

Aye...I've known about that one for a while! That's the Transrapid TR-08, designed and manufactured in Germany by Siemens and ThyssenKrupp. The Chinese one (In Shanghai) is - To this day - Still the Worlds only commercial maglev rail system in operation.

Sadly, the fate of the Transrapid project itself hangs in a very fine balance at the moment following a major incident on the test track in Germany last year. 23 passengers were killed when a TR-08 collided with a track maintenance vehicle at about 225 km/h, with both vehicles decimated in the collision and a fair bit of guideway damage. I believe that they may have repaired the track and built a new train by now, but understandably they've stopped offering demo rides to the public until further notice. Sad

On a brighter note though: There is a preliminary plan in place for a Transrapid system linking London and Manchester with an express start-to-stop journey time of about an hour or so...Although I don't know if that's still on following the incident in the Emsland that I summerised above. Confused

If ye ask me though: The Transrapid is still a much faster, more practical, safer, and far better system than the MLX-001 rubbish that Japanese Railways have been working on! Cool
