That is really sad   Sad

I wonder who it has been sold to?

I hope Paddy will still be running it though!!

Wonder how this will affect club trips, camping in the field etc?

The Club weekend arrangement still stands - not sure about the on-ride Megafobia disco though!  I'll give it a few weeks then have a chat with them.

this was on the western telegraph web site
Oakwood Theme Park has been snapped up for an undisclosed sum by European leisure park leaders the Aspro group.

News broke in December that the Canaston Bridge attraction, had attracted a mystery bidder. The theme park confirmed that an offer had been made and was being considered by management but refused to be drawn into speculation as to the identity of the bidder.

A statement issued on behalf of Oakwood Theme Park and the Aspro Group today confirmed the sale.

"I am delighted that Aspro has acquired the park, which is Wales's largest paid for visitor attraction," said former owner Paddy McNamara, "as they have an excellent track record of operating leisure parks across Europe."

The Aspro group currently operates 32 leisure parks in seven countries: 13 in Spain, one in Portugal, one in Switzerland, one in Belgium, nine in France, five in Finland.

With the acquisition of Oakwood the company now owns three parks in the U.K. the other two being the Deep Sea World Aquarium in Fife near Edinburgh and Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port, Chester.

They seem to own a lot of aqua parks across Europe.

Really sad that another family owned park goes into corperation hands.

I just hope the new owners carry on the good work over the past decade or so.

Well as you can read I'm gutted Crying or Very sad
BUT saying that, on a positive note, this company may invest in another WOODIE Laughing
Hopefully another "R****ER"
Sorry guys .....couldn't resist the opportunity. Wink
On a serious note though,
I will be visiting the park this week to see Paddy about me hopefully doing my 5000th ride sometime this season, as he wanted maximum publicity from it for the park???? Hmm! hopfully this new company will be interested,
and hopefully I will achieve it at the Oakwood Bash?
Fingers crossed guys Very Happy

That is not the reason for the sale - it is far more personal than that and very understandable under the circumstances.
bluea61

Agreed, we don't know the circumstances and the reasoning behind the sale. It could also be the best thing to ever happen to Oakwood and take them onto the next level. Who knows, I think we should sit tight and see what happens.

Exactly. We can only speculate what might happen. Ok, there are probably going to be some upsets, but hopefully some benefits aswell.
It is a shock though, to hear of this news, Paddy has done an excellent job with the park, and of course making us feel very welcome.

It will be interesting to find out what happens, wether they will invest in new attractions.Hopefully it will not interfear with the club trip, but they might not allow the disco on Megafobia. Hopefully you will still be able to camp on site, however when we were there last year they were building something simular to Centre Parcs.

Paddy has certainly done good job looking after you all over the years.
c anderson

As the new owners own a lot of aqua parks, can Ryan do his 5000th ride wearing scuba gear ?
Just think if Merlin had bought the park, they might like the wood and put some in their other parks, would also mean good value for their season pass.

The building you saw next door is a project called "Bluestone" which is being run by Paddys brother William.
Which has nothing to do with Oakwood.

Yes, this is sads news but times and circumstances change . . .sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse so we shall have to wait and see in this case.

Paddy has done a great job and we all fear that the special Oaky atmos club trip there may now be lost too?

I think that all of Aspro's other parks are water parks so Oaky may now be taken down this route.

Very sad news but like some people say see what happens. When we have are trip there in august we should show how much we care bout the park have lots of fun there could be someone from the compnay out there watching us guys seeing how we are on the park show them we love WOOD.
amigasat

Yes very sad news indeed, we shall just have to see what happens in time.

Mega-GLOW-Mania
August 8th.

Just to let you know, I have spoken to the Park and it has been 100% confirmed that everything is fine for our trip in August.  There is no need to worry about any changes and the format will be the same as usual (Camp Oakwood, party on Mega, etc).  So start planning! Very Happy
