2009 Trip Questions?Just wanted to ask a few questions with regard to the 2009 trips
1. Is there any news on dates for the Thorpe Park trip? I only ask as I may need to book the time off work soon.
2. What sort of price will the Blackpool Bash be? Considering 9 rides rumoured to be SNBO and the shows have been dropped will we see a reduction passed on?
3. What is happening about the Oakwood trip now that the park only open until 6pm from 1st to 31st August?
http://www.oakwoodthemepark.co.uk/plan/opening.asp
Does this mean that the "glow" part of Megaglowmania has come to an end?

All good questions Rachel - and no answers to any of them yet apparently.
I was just wondering about the Thorpe Park one myself - we are in the last week of January now, and the Thorpe Park trip is pencilled in for March, which really is very close now.
I would guess that the Blackpool Bash will basically cost a little more than last years (perhaps 10% increase?) There is no indication that they will be any adjustment to their entry prices to reflect the reduction in the number of 'attractions'.
Can anybody give any more information about these topics please?

I think Nev is on the ski trip at the momment and wont be back until the weekend,
As for the Oakwood question this came up with a certain other coaster group that has an ers in the evening the week before us and theres is still going ahead as planned,so im guessing that there will be no change for the Oakwood ers i might be wrong

Thanks for that Steve, I had also heard that about the other coaster group.

The Thorpe Trip will always be very last minute, as it is dependent on the commissioning of the new coaster.

If it's like the Stealth Attack trip to Thorpe you will get a couple of weeks notice.
I have just prepped them that need to know at work with the fact that "I will need a random day off in March, but don't know when", so at least it won't come as a surprise.
Nev is on the Skiing Trip this week and back at the weekend. I have a list of things he's needing to send me for the website, including the 2009 membership costs. SO these should all be done soon once he's back and catches up! *pokes nev*

Last I heard was Nev's waiting for confirmation from Thorpe, who are waiting for Saw to be handed over to them. Nev's not being slack, he just hasn't got final approval from the park, who themselves don't know a definitive date. I'm sure the moment he knows the date it'll be posted on here, ahead of formal invites being sent out.

Trouble is, surely Nev can't leave it till last minute to organise and announce the Thorpe Park trip. If it's to be a weekday mid to late March, wouldn't he have had to have booked it by now? Face it, look what has to be pre-booked: (indeed this goes for any trip for that matter)
Date for a large group to be vistiting Thorpe Park
Negotiate a group rate, to determine the trip price per head
Book the ERSs we're going to have (start and/or end of day), so that safety checks can be done earlier than usual, and staff can be laid on to run the ride(s).
Wouldn't all that need to be finalised at least two months before the intended date of visiting?

Nick as said before if im right the stealth one was sent out mid feb ish, the park wont have any probs getting staff in to work as its extra pay.
The ride checks are normally done early morning and your talking around 8 ish sometimes.
As for needing to tell the park in advance about large groups they have them all the time (school trips) so they will be used to handling that.
Yes it would be short notice but to be fair as well it has been said the club trip would be around march time hust after the ride opens and if like the other trips a week day meaning people would have said to work iv got something on in march so they are sort of aware.
Im sure andy will do a great job as always and will be a fab trip

As Magic said above....

So i'd expect that the whole thing is probably pre-agreed with Thorpe Park already, and all that we are waiting for is a date from Thorpe when they expect to have the coaster handed over to them by the manufacturers. Then, it's a simple case of set the date, send out the invites, publicise the information on the website and here, and there we go.
It will be short notice, but not anything daft like 48hrs, so you'll get a good few weeks up to a month i'd expect.

Hi Everyone
I'm back from skiing (in one piece!) and have been hard on the case with trips!
So in answer to some of the questions here is some updates:
1) Thorpe - please PENCIL in SATURDAY 21st March (my birthday!). I hope to confirm 100% in next day or so (just waiting for Thorpe to confirm after they get sign off from the manufacturer)
2) Blackpool Bash - working on price but as usual I will ensure excellent value for money - where else can you get a 3 day event, with loads of ERS's, two nights of entertainment and a lunch for £25!!*
3) Oakwood - late night ERS as usual. There will be some itinerary changes as the park is closing to the public earlier, but staff are staying late so we can have out party ERS!
*As with a lot of parks BPB are doing what they can to keep running. So if they have to close a few rides here and there to save some money, then that is much better than the whole park closing for good! Remember each major ride needs 2 - 3 staff operating it and if the numbers aren't going to parks and spending the money then they obviously won't/can't want to run at a loss. As such BPB are looking at ways of saving during the current climate. Behind the scenes they are working hard to do everything they can so as coaster enthusiasts we should do our bit by supporting BPB and all the other parks in the UK. In light of that I hope that you will all try to make the Blackpool Bash. A lot of members work very hard to ensure you have fun on this trip. I did think about dropping the Friday night, but thought no, as a Club we should all stick together and have fun together! So do try and make it and whilst on the subject of having fun - I now need volunteers for the Gong Show! So if you have a party piece, good or bad (preferably bad), then let me know and you can be one of the many members who have become infamous!!

That would be the perfect date for me. Hopefully it won't change!
I really want to attend a trip this year. The only one I've attended before was Mega-Glow-Mania 2004.

If its the 21st then me and simon have managed to get it off work. If anyone is travelling up from the north or midlands areas we would be very very grateful for a lift, as the train prices are going to be absolutely ridiculous otherwise. We will pay towards petrol etc just pm me if you can help coz we really want to go!

Err - actually it isn't!! I'm being pedantic I know, but nowhere in that posting does it mention the date for SAW - TED.
I presume that it will be 21 March, but I expect to get the next issue of airtime with all the details soon. (Please )

Hello if you read Nevs piece on the Gong Show, he has a bit of coaster track underneath saying 1 month 5 days to Saw, with a little maths that works out at 21st March!!! Hope this helps??

21st March is the provisional date. I.E. if everything works to plan, this is the date it will be. Nev did say pencil it in your diaries.... not pen - so there could still be a farce, but if it is, it'll be from the Thorpe end of things.
I have every Saturday free at the moment, except the 18th April (when i'll be on something else thats going on in Blackpool) so whatever it is.... i'll be there. But lets hope for the provisional date, as i need to ride coasters!!!!!

Hi everyone.
I can now confirm 100% that SAW-TED: The Trip is Saturday 21st March.
Invites will be printed and on way soon (along with Blackpool Bash invites).

Yay! Me and Simon will be there . Looks like we are going to have to pay £140 in total for trains and £100 in a travelodge for the fri and sat nights though - expensive!!! Will be nice to get away for a couple of days and see everyone though.

Takes longer but why not get National Express? Save yourself tons of cash. There are night buses from Preston and Blackpool in your area.

Or if we got a train to preston then bus to london then train to staines it would be £50 cheaper but an awfully long journey and lots of faffing around. Its at times like these that i wish i could afford to drive!!

When i have done Blackpool in the past i have always used National Express From London to Blackpool. I know there is a 9 or 10pm to Victoria that arrives at 6.30. Then giving you time to get the train to Stains aswell. I`m somebody who can sleep on the busses so im fine, depends if you are an easy sleeper or not.

Sadly I won't make it to Saw-Ted.
I am going to a matinée performance of God of Carnage, starring Richard E Grant.
That's at the theatre, in the FLESH!!!!!
