Little help here please.
This will be my second USA trip and ive decided to bring my wife (sarah j) with me its our 10th wedding aniversary. This will be her first serious coaster expedition i ask the tour group to give her the confidence and support to ride the tallest fastest rides america can offer. She has only just done Oblivion for the first time and that took a bit of blackmail although this was her 4th loopathon. It would be a real shame to have laid out 1800 quid to have her sit with the bags while we enjoy the rides.
Early next season im taking her to Thorpe for Stealth then Flamingo land for velocity then Blackpool bash so hopefully she will be ready. _________________ life moves too fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you just might miss it.

I am sure that if she is wanting to ride any huge coaster she will. Take it from someone who knows there is no point making somebody do a ride if they don't want to. I did that for my wife, the Big One Blackpool, she past out. I must admit that now she will ride almost all coasters. You need to really get her to do Stealth & Rita first as if she cannot cope with any part of that I don't know how she is going to to do twice as fast as Rita or twice as high as Stealth.
I must also say Oblivion is not much out of the ground so 180ft is not looking like it. I have not done the big USA but I can say I am going to do the big one's like all others who have done it. _________________ Memeber of the 08 Top Thrill Rollback Club + Member of the "First to be denied SAW by Technical Failure" club.

I dont know about anyone else but i cant wait, its all i seem to be thinking about.

I used to be very scared of rollercoasters, and the one thing that cured me was the big one at Blackpool! Do that and she will be fine.
I went to Florida last year and did them all and havent looked back! _________________ Hayley

There are quite a few of us going on this trip lol. It was over subscribed to the extent that Nev went back to renegotiate and was able to accommodate everybody who had applied. (Thanks again Nev )
It will be my first trip overseas with the club - and I have not visited any of these parks previously. So, I am hoping to ride 50 coasters that I have never ridden before. I'm getting excited and nervous about the trip just writing this |

This is my first USA trip with RCCGB and my first USA trip full stop. I have done one big trip with this club back in to 2003. That gave me my love or coasters and now the more I ride the more I love. I must say the reason for doing this trip as everyone I have spoken to , who have done the parks, say how great that these parks are. The wrestler Mick Foley speaks very highly of Knoebels, Hershey Park and Kennywood. He is like a hero to me, as a wrestling legend and an ACE Member. I read about the parks in his autobiography's. I`m Excited as i`m ticking off more of the parks on his list.
I was not planning to do this trip but Carol talked me into applying. I was going to save myself and apply for Nev`s European trip. Now i`m really pleased i went for this trip. Would be strange now not doing the club USA trip. It makes my year now. This will be my fourth USA club trip. _________________ My Site www.freewebs.com/big-Stevie-b/

Thanks for the support hazzzzeeee . I have already riden The Big One and Rita. Hopefully that should help, I just seemed to have turned into a coward since having my 2 girls. My hubby Andy is taking me to Thorpe Park next year to crack Stealth.
Really looking forward to USA 2008. Andy hasnt stopped talking about Cedar Point since he went in 2006. _________________ Sarah

Cedar point is a great park. In my opinion Knobeles is buy far the best park overall on the trip. They have the best milkshakes. WhenI went in 2004 we did a gane called the ice cream challange. I will not say too much about it. But it is the most fun you can have while eating ice cream.

I think having fear after having children is normal as Clare, my wife, lost her ability to ride after children. It will come back don't worry. _________________ Memeber of the 08 Top Thrill Rollback Club + Member of the "First to be denied SAW by Technical Failure" club.

I'm sure when your wife arrives at these fantastic parks she will get swept away with the club atmosphere and have NO problem getting on any ride Especially kingdaka (spell check)
She might get a little scared when she attempts the ice cream challenge though. Take it from the person who was one of the first to do it..........FANTASTIC

Sarah: three words of advice - Just do it!!!
Usa Club Trips:
1) Parks - great
2) the atmosphere and social side of the club - great
3) The rides - great
4) the extra special ride time - great
5) Fun, fun, fun . . .
6) laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate
My first USA trip was 2005 and i was so busy chatting to people that i was walking onto hyper coasters without even looking at them! _________________ RCCGB Club Member #1908 |

A food type challenge, bring it on. you are talking to the only man to eat 2 belly buster breakfasts at lindsey oil refinery shutdown 2 years ago. i got my name on the wall and my photo taken and everything. i also ate 2 full fish dinners at steels corner house restaurant cleethorpes before bieng asked to leave. So any wussy ice cream challenge dont seem that bad. Although i have lost three stones in weight since then my belly may have shrunk.
Although a nasty afterthought does it involve eating icecream on a turbulant ride cos if thats the case im screwed. _________________ life moves too fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you just might miss it.

Just a question hope someone will answer me. The January payment for this trip., I think I remember that it is due on the 2nd of Jan. With Christmas post is there a few days leeway. I ask so I know when I need to post my first payment. The cheque will be cleared from my bank as I send it which is good. _________________ Memeber of the 08 Top Thrill Rollback Club + Member of the "First to be denied SAW by Technical Failure" club.

Hi Coaster-Andy,
Because 2nd January will be just after the Christmas post, and just in case there are any more postal strikes, I'm going to post my payment at the end of November to be on the safe side. |

As I know Andy Hine is well behind with RCCGB stuff at the moment. I will not fill his Email box anymore than it already is as this question may get lost in there. I was wondering do we get a receipt of payment notification as I have just sent my second payment for the trip. I may have also made a error on payment name as I put USA 2008 and not USA Trip 2008. We all have bad days and forgetfulness. _________________ Memeber of the 08 Top Thrill Rollback Club + Member of the "First to be denied SAW by Technical Failure" club.

In my limited experience of USA trips, if you can regularly check your bank account/statements, any payment will show up pretty quickly. _________________ RCCGB Mem no 948

Hi, receipts are not normally sent (keeps Admin costs down - and subsequently trip cost down!)
What I normally do is contact those who haven't paid!!
So if I don't contact you in the next few days you are fine - but if you are one of the eight who's payment I haven't yet received I may be speaking with you very soon!! _________________ Andy Hine is also known as NEV!

It's my first club trip ever, despite being a member for ten years (I still have issue 4 of Airtime in the loft.)
It's only really now that I can afford to pay for a rollercoaster holiday for myself, and not being attached I don't have the guilt of either dragging someone along who's not really up for it or leaving them behind while I have all the fun
Really looking forward to it though as this trip seems to be a whirlwind tour of many of the parks I've spent the last ten years dreaming of visiting.
Does anyone know if/when we get a detailed itinerary and if there's any kind of pre-flight booze-up? I'm currently trying to plan the best way for me to get to Heathrow. Current thinking is to get down there the night before to avoid potential problems. |

My first official USA club trip was last year. You will receive in the post a full itinery, luggage tags, checklist, and all the instructions you will need on where to meet up, check-in, what time etc. etc.
If you live along way from Heathrow, you may be better getting there the evening before so you are on-site and have no chance of missing the plane.
As for a pre-flight booze up, i'm not sure that will happen. You can't fly when drunk remember, so getting hammered before boarding a plane isn't the best plan to be honest. That said, i'd bet a pound on the fact you'll find some people in the bar _________________ Matt

Weeeeell, when I say booze-up, I'm not envisaging getting completely trollied. That would indeed be daft. I suppose it depends on the flight time really, was thinking more of 3-4 drinks the evening before, few games of pool, that sort of thing.
You'd bet a whole pound? One whole english pound? *faints* |

Haha, well i think to be honest I could make more than a simple Pound on the bet, as I know there's a regular crew that hang out in the bar!
I am not sure of the flight times, as originally we were going to be flying back from Detroit. I understand that BA now don't fly from Detroit so it could be from Chicago now. Until the final flight information is sent, I'm not really sure
The outbound flight is to New York (Newark). There are 2 each day, 08:55 and 14:40 i think, and they go from LHR T4, but thats all i know. _________________ Matt

I need to make similar plans.
I've considered spending a few days in Lodon before the trip - in which case I'll find a hotel within the city somewhere, and plan how to get to Heathrow on the morning.
However, if there are a few people planning in staying in an airport hotel for the night before the flight I would probably modify that plan to join them.
So - who is planning on staying in an airport hotel? And does anybody have a recommendation as to which hotel to use pleae? |

I will be flying down the day before so if anyone will be visiting a bar to keep the bartender in employment I would be interested.
Has anyone a suggestions for a hotel? _________________ RCCGB Mem no 948

I wouldnt start planning timings yet as the flights will be departing from the new Heathrow Terminal 5! so its possible that timings will change with the transfer of terminals. On top of this (as already stated) BA have scrapped using Detriot as a flight base!
Every US flight I've done with the club (7 now WOW!) has left between 9AM and Midday (ish) so expect to at the airpot for an early leave on that day!
Barry
And those still worried, I can confirm that the parks on the trip are the top top parks! I could spend a week at kenobels just on their bumper cars!!! (notice bumper cars not dodgems! |

The flight out is the 08.55 BA185 arriving in Newark at 11.35AM but as with The Coaster Police I won't be on it as i'll already be out there but will meet you all at Newark.
I got the details from Guru Gareth so I could arrange the return of our hire vehicle on time.
See you all soon

Swish. Well, I've booked my hotel. If you move quick you can get a Travelodge within 3 miles for £29 for the night. There's nothing left for Terminal 5 but there's one in Feltham. If you miss out on that then the next nearest is Staines (4 miles.) As far as I can tell, everywhere else charges significantly more than £29.
I didn't bother adding the breakfast since I'd imagine there'll be some available on the plane. Can always grab a snack in the airport too. |
