Looks like thorpe park have now court up with Alton towers game next year by now paying for the car park. After going to the guess service not even the staff in there new anything about it at all but the sign at the front says it all. Not much more information on this but soon as more come clear will let you all know.

It was only a matter of time...   Lets hope they pay for a bit of security to stop cars being broken into or damaged...

Lets hope they also use the money to Tarmac the car park so when it rains your car doeasn't get bogged down!!

I think they should have worded it differently:

"You've just had a really expensive day out and queued all day for a few rides, but next year we are going to charge you even more!"  Laughing

Whilst I may not like being charged for the excuse of a cark park at Thorpe, you have to pay @ Cedar point.
I will admit that there is a huge difference between both parks. Hopefully Thorpe will use this money to increase the ride count and will turn it into a UK version of CP.

To be fair nearly all European and US parks charge for parking. But then most European and US parks offer a better experience and represent better value for money.

No doubt we'll see huge improvements to Thorpe next year with all this additional revenue.  Wink

I like the way the sign states there "may" be a charge.

So we can always hope that there won't be, right?

I'd patent that one! They could put hoods over all the seats and having spinning alloys on the trains!  Laughing

This thing about charging for parking - do we know if annual pass holders get parking for free like we do at Alton towers ? it maybe too early to know but i thought id just ask that question.

If annual pass holders can't get in the actual park for free, during Fright Nights, I can't imagine them letting you park your car for free.

Here we go again...More unreasonable charging coing in for the "normal" facilities at Thorpe! Rolling Eyes

Although I'm no too bothered about it myself (I always go in via public transport, hence I'll be exempt from any parking charge anyway!) I can see this causing major problems for the surrounding area. Depending on what they're planning to charge (Say, £5/day?) I can see lots of people choosing to park on either Chertsey Road or inside Thorpe Village and taking a short walk to the park insted.
Cue massive traffic difficulties running into/out of Staines, and householders making a profit from selling parking space on their driveways! ShockedRazzWink

If TP bring in an unreasonable parking charge though, here are my tips for cheaper parking:
  • There's a Small car park about 3/4 mile North of TP, accessible from the Chertsey Road. Parking there might need to be checked, but I wouldn't imagine it being more than £3.00 for the day if long stays are permitted.
  • There are a few car parks in Chertsey (About half hours walk from TP) that'll be a lot more reasonably priced. The same might be true for outer Staines as well, and it might still work out cheaper to park in one of those towns and catch a bus in to the park.
  • Consider using railway station car-parks, local ones to TP being Virginia Water, Egham and Chertsey (No car-park at Staines AFAIK). These may be cheaper at the weekends, as they take most of their profit from commuter parking during the week.
  • Don't forget to lift-share where possible...Two cars can accommodate 14 people, and cost much less to drive and park than half a dozen! Cool
Farewell... Twisted Evil
