I am not a gambling man, but i always have a £1 each way on a horse on the Grand National.
I will always choose a horse because of it's name and never by its stake or colour etc, and I always get my dad to place the bet for me so I do not know the odds as i always fear that this might make me change my mind.
The name will always have to have the same letter at the begining of each of its names, like Red Rum for example.
This year my choice was " Mon Mome " which means My Kid in French. I made this decision as it was what my mum and dad used to describe me as when i was younger.
Well i sat down to watch the race with my £1 each way ticket in my hand for luck and to my surprise I am now £126 Richer. Who would have thought that a 100-1 shot would have won? I would not have placed the bet if i knew the odds before hand _________________ Auntie Murial - Ianto James Gulliver

Just out of curiosity, I can't see where the extra £26 has come from...Surely if ye place £1 on a horse at odds of 100-1, then surely thy take home should be [Bet] x [Odds] + [Original stake back] = £101, shouldn't it? (Not that the extra is a bad thing, of course! )
Admittedly, I can't quite understand a lot of betting options for horse racing though. I can understand and place a straight-up bet on a single horse without problem...But "Each ways", "accumulators", "five past the post" and all that gumpf confuse the hell out of me!
Ahh well...No worries in my case! As far as I'm concerned, the real Grand National is something we'll be riding on the 18th! _________________

Can you place an each-way on that? Will it be left or right first past the post - time will tell. _________________ Steve

Because i placed the bet as £1 each way it was 100-1 which is £100 plus the £1 placed and because the horse came in the top four too it also has a quarter of the odds which in this case was 25-1 ( £25 ) and the original placed too its difficult to explain lol _________________ Auntie Murial - Ianto James Gulliver

Speaking of Red Rum, did anyone see the One Show with the dog who could say Red Rum? I'm sure it'll be on youtube some where.

I would have thought you would get £127 back?
A £1 Each Way bet is effectively 2 bets, one £1 bet to win, and one £1 bet for a place.
The win would be £1 x 100/1 plus your £1 stake back (£101) and the place would be quarter odds £1 x 25/1 plus your stake back (£26), total winnings £127 (or £125 profit).
