Sorry guys.
The date for Summer bash is usually the last Saturday in June and with the USA trip so near I could get any other date.
Blackpool Bash dates for next year are:
17th -19th April. _________________ Andy Hine is also known as NEV!

Anybody up for PLEASUREWOOD HILLS in the same weekend, its celebrating its 25th year and now boasts 3(three) rollercoasters. We went last year late may bank holiday just before the newly relocated Wipeout (aka Missile from american adventure) was completed, the day was a complete washout but the cabaret in the phoney castle was awesome. Its 3 easy ticks for £13.50 (if your over 1.4 metres) _________________ life moves too fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you just might miss it.

Looks like we are all up for this. Thomas with his first Scenic Coaster. Also there is a credit at Pleasurewood Hills for Thomas so looks like a weekend trip for us then. _________________ Memeber of the 08 Top Thrill Rollback Club + Member of the "First to be denied SAW by Technical Failure" club.

Sorry about that Marcus, but nature does tend to balance itself out. There's only so much good-boss to go around, and luckily my one has more than a fair share of goodness about her
It will be interesting to see what AirTime says about the summer bash inc. travel arrangements if any. Another first for me, and now just 3 weeks to the US! _________________ Steve

Date is an issue for us also, we are off on holiday around that date so won't make it. We did Great Yarmouth last year and it was a great trip. Will be going back soon I should imagine. _________________ Steve

My family and I will also have to miss the Summer Bash as for the 2nd year running we will be on our way back from holiday in France on that day, arriving back via Eurotunnel at around 5pm...too late for the trip I'm afraid!
The only consellation is that we will have spent 2 and a bit days at Disneyland Paris on our way back....!
Won't have the same problem next year as we will have to have the holiday within the school holiday period from now on...although we have also missed a Bash which coincided with the British GP.
Hope you all have a great time! |

Well i managed to work the favour and got the 28th off. So unless it clashes with my personal stuff, i have a 70/30 chance of coming to Yarmouth now.
Must tell Carol and Debs!
The Scenic and snails in one day! ye. lol
Nev have you thought of a Joyland extra? That would be pure hell as funny. Its the best park in the UK per square meter! Snails! The tubs! _________________ My Site www.freewebs.com/big-Stevie-b/

Much discussion and I'm afraid Paul and I aren't going to make it. With a big trip in August we can't justify the expense of a 400 mile round trip, even though we'd both like to go. _________________ Sarah

I'm making my plans for this trip now.
I'm looking for a b&b for 2 nights - does anybody have any recommendations please?
And I'm up for an 'add on' trip to Pleasurewood Hills on the Sunday. (I note if we can get at least 15 of us together we can get a group rate of £12.50 on the day) |

I posted my application on Wednesday and booked my b&b yesterday.
Now everything is ready - provided the Royal Mail does its job.
Public transport was a nightmare, so I'm driving. (Even that is not good - why are there no motorways in that area?)
I've been reading up - and now I see why a trip to Joyland for the tubs is essential. One of the 'veterans' of that park will have to introduce me to the snails though (please)
And the Pleasurewood Hills add on is sounding good for the Sunday. |

I was thinking of driving but I've booked with National Express coaches. It's about 270 miles return trip from London and for the cost of the return coach journey being £21, it's worth not driving and being able to relax.
I'm up for a ride on the snails, as long as it's not a French cuisine challenge _________________ Steve

If only it was a 'wobbly' Bob coach journey to a US theme park with the occasional 'dancing' performance and game of Bingo, but national express to Yarmouth it is. _________________ Steve

Well I was way ahead of you bradpeet, I booked the trip, accommodation and Advance train tickets the evening of Friday 30 May!
Did you or anyone else buy a 20th anniversary T-shirt? I did, and wore it when I paid a solo visit to Flambards in Cornwall on Tuesday 10 June. You'll see me wearing it next Saturday at the Summer Bash.
I've just had a quick glance at the Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach web site. Here's what their Thrills and Spills page has had to tempt me:
DISKO - sounds scary, spinning and running on a track. Only way to know is to watch the real thing and then (if I dare) try it.
SKY-DROP - at 22 metres tall, that should be fun, better than Skydrop at Adventure Island 21 metres tall). I love vertical drops, e.g. Oblivion at Alton Towers, The Beast at Cornwall's Crealy (went there 9 and 11 June this year) Jumping Bean at Paultons or Trauma Tower at Woodlands, as well as drop slides.
BIG APPLE COASTER - a juvenile steelie, so presumably that's a family coaster really. Should still be fun to ride. Formerly at Alton Towers, so it ought to be worth riding. Made by Pinfari, I've never heard of them, have you?
SNAILS AND FAIRY TALES - I suppose adults can ride this if not accompanying little children. It says "remain a firm favourite with the grown-ups (or as adult kids as I like to say) too". Made by Wadbrooke/Bottons, I've never heard of them.
ROLLER COASTER - an apt and original name, just the plain old generic name! A woodie I see the so-called "star attraction". Not surprisingly then our ERS is on this, I'm really looking forward to that. What does this compare to at Blackpool Pleasure Beach - Zipper Dipper or Roller Coaster I suppose?
LOG FLUME - I love log flumes. Three rises and three falls. Rain or shine, watch me don my cagoule and leggings to stay dry on this, I don't wanna get soaked. What sense is in getting wet?
EVOLUTION - uh oh, something similar to Bling at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. I went on Extreme Force at Flambards ten days ago, so I'll probably brave one go on Evolution, but not just after eating!
GALLOPERS - I'll do this as a rest ride between other rides.
MULAN (Caterpillar) - I think I've seen this sort of thing somewhere when I was a kid, - Tor Fair in Glastonbury or Dorset Steam Fair one autumn with my Grandad I think, but didn't ride it. I'll give it a go at Great Yarmouth.
PIRATE SHIP - I've been on pirate ships at Devon's Crealy, Cornwall's Crealy and Paultons, so I'll want to ride the one at GYPB. Preferably the end row to get the maximum height.
I've noticed the Disko, Sky Drop and Pirate Ship are all made by Zamperla. They should be fun to ride, my most recent experience of riding Zamperla rides was the Rock 'n' Tug, Balloon Race and log flume at Flambards 10 days ago.
Well I'm really looking forward to next Saturday, 28 June. Just eight days away.

Well I'm travelling from Bath to Great Yarmouth by train next Friday, and returning home Sunday (leave Great Yarmouth around 4pm, get back to Bath 10ish). It does mean crossing London from Paddington to Liverpool St (and vice versa) on the Tube, and also changing at Norwich. It should be a pleasant relaxing journey both ways. |

I will be wearing mine too!

Disko's are quite good fun...I am sure you will enjoy it.

Really!...Pinfari are an italian company, responsible for close on 10% of all the operating coasters in the world! There are approx 25 Pinfari coasters operating in England alone.

Adults can ride. Wadbrooke built the Roller Coaster and Bottons owned the park.

It is a Scenic Railway, so unlike any other operating coaster in the UK. It is, I suppose, comparable to the Roller Coaster at Blackpool, but the Yarmouth coaster has a brakeman on the ride, who stops the ride jumping off the tracks (it rides ON the rails only...there are no upstop wheels unlike almost every other coaster in the world). There are only about 8 of these in the world!

Be careful...this one uses salt water from the sea...so if you suffer from shaving rash, you won't want to get your face / neck wet!

In fact Pinfari are responsible for 33 of the UK's 159 steelies!
Pinfari began in the 1920's, handling Dodgems for fairgrounds. They created their first coaster in th 1950's - The Zyklon.
Their first roller coaster type, the steel Zyklon, was developed in the 1950s.
There are currently over 130 Pinfari coasters around the world.
Some key names that you may have heard of:
Zyklon (Billing Aquadrome)
Zyklon Looping (e.g. Turbo, Brighton Pier)
Big Apple (e.g. Great Yamouth)
Mini Mega Coaster (e.g. Southend)
Clown Coaster (e.g. BPB, Oakwood) _________________ Andy Hine is also known as NEV!

Am I right in thinking that Gauntlet and Klondike are also made by Pinfari? _________________ Rachel
