Back home after an amazing day of fun at alton towers today on the loopathon trip.
We arrived at 7:30 at the park and wondered if we had the right day as we were on our own, but have no fear within a short space of time we were joined by fellow coaster fanatics.
We went to oblivion for one ride on the ERS then we decided to head for rita as we much prefer that to oblivion anyway. The bonus of heading to Rita so early was that we got to ride it on the front seat for the first time ever
It was obvious from staying in the UG land are for a short while that the park was not going to be as busy as you would normally expect for a saturday as the queue for rita never grew at all
After dinner and spending quite a bit of cash on club merchandise we decided after dropping our gear off at the car that we would try out the extraordinary golf near the hotels, what a great laugh it was as well as there seemed to be a coaster club golf takeover going on. For anyone who has not done the golf, do it, you will not regret it at all.
Our last act of the day was the ERS on the ever amazing nemesis. 10 rides later and after being sat on the front row of the final train in the near dark and it was time to go back home.
A fantastic day was had meeting friends and having some great fun and to make things better as well alton have finally got thunder rock rally music and the nemesis music back
We would have gone to drayton with the club tomorrow but we were already booked to go on the alton towers behind the scenes tour, at least its something excellent to look forward to
Finally a big thank you to all the people at alton who made it happen for us and last but not least a huge thanks to our very own Nev for all the hard work and time he puts into making sure we all have a great time. _________________

Glad you had a fantastic time at Alton Towers at loopathon 2007.
I agree with you that Rita is alot better than Oblivian. Oblivian was a fantastic experience for the first few years of operation but now that we have seen what they can d with this style ride it just , to me, seems a bit of a let down.
Hope you have a fantastic time today at the behind the scenes tour at the Towers, it would be great if you could start a new thread trip report for this when you get the chance.

Back home after another fantastic Loopathon.
Saturday was great although from the amount of club members that seemed to head over to Rita rather than hang round Oblivion during the ERS maybe if the park offer it, an ERS on Rita might be the preferred choice.
ERS on Nemesis was superb as ever, it really flew round the track, managed at least 10 rides.
I have to say the friendlyness of the park staff was great and the atmosphere overall was good.
Sunday, good day all round, couldn't stay for ERS on G Force but made sure we got on everything.
Great weekend
Thanks to Nev and everyone involved in organising the Loopathon.
See you all at Blackpool. |

I must echo the great time I had with fellow club members on my first RCCGB trip for 3 years I think.
I loved it Oblivion ERS is good. So it is not good today as it was 9 years ago. I will say that it was so much better as a ride with someone who has not ridden it before. Rita is still good not my favorite launch coaster but not the worse one ridden.
I enjoyed the food and was nice to see some old faces and some new ones also it is amazing how much it has changed over the years. All but Mr Hine MBE who is still wanting wood for Alton. Hold out for Flamingoland Andy it will more than likely get one before Alton.
The high light of the day for me was Nemesis at night. It was better when we had it a little later in the year as it was a lot darker than it was this time around. It was getting faster at night.
One last thing is I wish to thank all those ho work on making this day so good. _________________ El Toro My 200th coaster and first USA coaster (Also member of roll back club on TTD 2)

I had such a fantastic time, this was my first Loopathon since 2004 and the trip was the best RCCGB club trip I have been on, mainly down to the great people I spent time with.
For me it started on Friday night and meeting everyone at Peakstones, where we had a few drinks, did some karaoke and had a beer mat fight! Didn't get to sleep though until 4am and was awake again at 6:20am.
Alton Towers was fantastic, I didn't do the Oblivion ERS but had my first ever go on RITA which was good, but not as good as I expected, kind of an anticlimax for me.
Got in many rides throughout the day and also watched the gang have a round of crazy golf.
I really enjoyed the Nemesis ERS, managing to clock up 10 rides, was on both the first and the last train.
After we had a short visit to the Hex Tree and then on for a meal and drinks. We intended on going to sleep when we got back to Peakstones but were dragged to the karaoke where Smiler entertained us with his performances.
Drayton Manor was great today too, was a much more relaxing day.
I apologise for crying before the ERS and at the end of the day, just had a fantastic weekend with brilliant friends and was feeling emotional that the weekend had ended.
I just wish Ian could have been there to join in the fun.
Looking forward to seeing pictures, I didn't take many myself. _________________ Rachel

Hi
Got home last night about 9pm, we had a great time over the weekend.
It was great seeing you all again, I apologize If I seemed a bit unenthusiastic this weekend. I was starting to feel unwell on Saturday and was feeling worse at times yesterday. and, today I'm even worse .
But other than that i had a great time lol.
Once again it was great seeing you all again, and see you again next year. |

What a smashing weekend it was.
Got held up a fair bit on the way up to peakstones had food, drink and lots of whipping happened which was funny to watch and the video of it happening to rich to.
Sat i didnt feel to good after my 1st ride on oblivion it seemed to give me a hang over of some sort as everyother ride after i came off with smashing headaches.
The park to me seemed dead and we managed to get most of it done by lunch.
After lunch we went over and had a go on the golf which didnt seem as good as last time as things didnt seem to be working.
Nemesis ers was great as ever and seems to quicken each year managed to get 10 rides.
Went for a meal and the hex tree and so soory for scaring hayley with the strobe and me sneaking around.
Sat nite was so funny watching rich sing and dress up but rach and chris were really good.
Another early start and raring to go we set off for drayton and as we neared it the sat nav said something about a roundabout which did exist any more as there is now a new road. So we carried on and went another way but this seems it wasnt only us who this happend to with the sat nav.
Apoclypse was really good and have to say i enjoyed the sit down side alot. The ers seemed to be over half an hour earlier though which was a shame but got all 3 elements of it done.
Malestrom was nice getting some air time.
A few from our group braved stormfoce 10 and didnt seem to get that wet but the rapids about an hour later soaked me for the rest of the day.
Enjoyed the rest of the park doing the rides and all fooling rich into having an extreme drunken barrels ride.
Also i got to go into the maintanece sheds where got to hold a shockwave rollback things and saw wheels lol and ride spare parts.
All in all it was a great but tiring weekend and now feeling so tired and having an afternoon nap before my lecture later on.
Thanks andy for another great trip |

It was another fantastic weekend and one I dont think I will forget in a hurry.
Friday night was a experience went for a few drinks and food and also the beer matt fight which seems to be getting bigger every year to and went to bed bout 12ish. Chris, Big steve and jess decided to stay up a little longer and kept me up for most of the night (Wont go there) when I did wake up tho everyone was standing round me and couldnt remeber what happend next lol
Saturday was a great day with 2 goes on oblivion and then over to Rita. Corckscrew as always rough and then over to the ug swingers. They seemed to have slowed this down I think after last year .
Lunch was next at mac donalds before going to the tent for a listen to what themanagment had to say bout the future. No wooden coaster just yet tho.
A game of golf was next and what a game it was. A few good golfer in the group with one or two hole in ones by some. A great break from the park. The farmyard take over a laugh as always with the tractors and merry go round always great fun. The night fell and then over to nemesis. 10 rides was done just as we managed the last train yay. The night drew to a close with the Hex tree which the groups getting bigger and bigger every year. A nice meal was had and some fun was had there. Time for bed but then are landlady came to are caravans with a snooker telling us we must go to the pub as she is leaveing next season to travel the world. She will be missed very much by us all. A few songs by me and rachel and Chris and a bit of dressing up to (Thanks guys).
Sunday another fantastic day. Some good riding done and a great lunch as always. A trip round by the boss round the new Thomas the tank land which was nice. The G-force ERS was done but only 2 rides done due to the bars beening so tight when its going round. The group hug and hokey kokey was great fun and nice to see the coaster season off like that.
A great weekend and tierd as always but some great mems was made.
Pictures will be online hopefully tonight. _________________ Naked roller coaster world record holder 2004

Well not too much to add to all the above posts, but what an absloutely fantastic weekend. I really didnt want the weekend to finish as it was a blast from start to finish. So much silly stuff going on which makes me glad i refuse to grow up
Great to see so many familiar friendly people and new ones and got to know some members who i have half met before but now know alot better.
And yes, the golf wasnt crazy . . . it was extrordinary golf!!! I do believe i must have won . . . perhaps . . . errrrrr . . .
It was my first visit to the Hex tree and it is a tad creepy i must say, especially when you give dem old chains a rattling!!!
Cant wait to see you all again soon!!!

Wow what a busy weekend! I had a fun weekend, nice to see everyone again and have a nice relaxing game of golf! We will have to do that again next year!
Oblivion ERS brilliant as always. Throughly enjoyed Air, which I would love to have an ERS on next year if at all possible!!!!!
Nemesis has got more intense to much for me to handle which resulted in one go! On the front of course!
I throughly enjoyed G force this year, I love that lift hill!
I really enjoyed the mini behind the scence tour of Thomas Land. Very interesting to hear about potential projects which have fallen through for what ever reason. Shame they cant use all of their land, I didnt realise it was a really big problem to build anything there.
Bring Thomas Land and their adventure play area! I hope it has a death slide! _________________ Hayley

For those of you who went to drayton manor, did they operate two trains on shockwave or was it the usual one and the usual long queue _________________

I must add something to my trip report. I don't know if anyone else noticed on one of the Oblivion trains there was 4 cameras. I thought that these were for the Your Day DVD. But they are not. http://towersnerd.com/newsitem.php?id=238
These, as this report shows could be the start of on ride DVD instead of photos. I think that this will be a huge successes as long as they are not over priced. Nice to see something different. _________________ El Toro My 200th coaster and first USA coaster (Also member of roll back club on TTD 2)

They do this in Canadas Wonderland. There are little cameras in your face on most of their 'big' rides and then they offer you a DVD instead of a stills image. I suppose that is progress. _________________ Jester

Was slightly surpised by the installation of these cameras. Not in the fact they are there but in the way they've been rigged. Surely there is a better way of keeping the cables in place than manky bits of gaffa tape. I'm not even convinced how long they'll work for as the BNC cables were pulling on the connectors and ripe for failing. They didn't even appear to be weatherproof conenctors, but I only caught a brief glance so maybe wrong.
The Ridercam installations that I've seen so far appear to have been done to a better finish, but to be fair they have been on coasters that have more convenient mounting locations. _________________ Marcus

A bit of a late trip report but have only just got round to coming on to the new board! Only did Alton Towers this year due to transport issues but had a great day with simon. His first trip to the towers and he loved it. A bit gutted that some people i considered friends in the club don't seem to want to know anymore but i still enjoy the trips so will carry on going to them etc. We stayed at trough ivy house on friday and saturday and it was excellent as always. Hopefully will be driving by this time next year so will be able to get to drayton as well coz simon's never been there.

Kelly, i hope you don`t mean all of us. We were all having a chat saying we missed you hanging around with us. We all thought you wanted to be alone with Simon. We would all love you do tag around with us at every park or club event. Plus you both have open invites to any other trips we do as a group. _________________ www.freewebs.com/big-Stevie-b/

It`s just a case of you have to follow the crowd. You know your part of our group Kelly. Everybody is welcome but we don`t give out invites lol.
Now we know to wait for you. Plus you are invited to Brighton and Alton Towers Scare fest you want to come.
A couple of people spoke to me at Loopy. Think they wanted to tag with the Sparrow group. Then they just should. If they don`t follow and chat i don`t think about it till later on. But Kelly, lots of the guys were asking about you. Like i say, we missed you. Plus you know i don`t suck up to anybody, so you know i mean that. _________________ www.freewebs.com/big-Stevie-b/
