Had a fantastic day on Saturday at Alton, although was such an early start. Oblivion is definitely great in the morning to wake you up and it was good to see the mist working!! Think I managed to get in two rides on that before heading off to Spinball Whizzer, queue was a bit longer than anticipated due to breakdown.

Next was off to the Beastie where we were sadly told by the ride op that it was being removed either winter this year or sometime next year Sad

Had a great day round the park doing the rides which included:

Rita (many times)
Corkscrew (many times)
Ug Swingers (once cos they weren't going as fast as usual)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (great ride op!)
Air (entertained by Borat impressions from Simon in the queueline)
Blade (twice, the second time to see if any of Heathers balloons popped)
Duel (twice)
Rapids
Runaway Train
Battle Galleons
Log Flume (remember Adam, you don't get wet on Altons Log Flume, lol)

We also had an entertaining time with Henry Hound (which was won by Adam) taking snaps of him in unusual places and seeing how many ride photos we could get him in.

Managed 11 rides in total on the Nemesis ERS, she was really flying and the ride ops were so efficient.

For me this was the best day of Loopathon, had a real good time with Steve, Hayley, Adam, Chris, Andy, Kelly and Simon (and Lee later on)

Drayton was a bit of a damp start so gave the Apocalypse ERS a bit of a miss and headed over to Thomas Land for a few rides. From Thomas Land we headed to Pirate Adventure where we learned full boat = very big splash and wet riders. Off to Maelstrom there for a spin dry and then a quick go on the cable cars before lunch.

After lunch spent a little while in the hospitality suite for the warmth and then headed out for a couple of goes on Golden Nuggets, then back across to Maelstrom. Also had a couple of goes on Black Revolver, which on the second go made me and Adam feel a bit green. A few more goes on other rides and then the ERS (which I sat out of - not too keen on G Force)

Spent the afternoon with Andy, Adam, Jess, Brian, Chris and Mary, thanks guys.

The weekend in general was great, seeing new faces and old.

Thanks Andy for all your hard work organising another great trip, already looking forward to next year!

A great trip as ever, even the weather didn't spoil it! as it turned out very nice after lunch today.

I'm looking at incorporating members trip reports into the new website trips section and would appreciate any comments you would like to make. Another great weekend had by us.
I haven't been to Loopathon for the past two years due to real life getting in the way, so it was great to have that experience again.
Loopathon 2002 was my first club trip, so it has a special place in my heart.

Paul hadn't been to Alton for 20 years, so was quite struck by the changes in the place.

The day began with a warming hug from Krusty before we went to Oblivion.
Oblivion was cold, but fun. We did enjoy Rita, although the back row of each car is not the place to be in the rain.
Paul made an eek noise on the first go, but was soon running around again.

Of course we rode Corkscrew for old time's sake.

Other highlights of the day, Dual 62,500, I thank you.
Hex - a very good setting, and some seriously scared screams from some first timers.
Spinball - It's really settled in, and felt like great fun.

We also enjoyed petting the guinea pigs in Old McDonald's farm, and looking at the giant rabbits.

My first time experiences were Riverboat Eye Spy (excellent) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I miss the hippo).

We ate at Eastern Express (great lentil curry with rice and salad £4.99). I'm afraid from the look of the buffet this year I didn't think it was very vegetarian friendly for the price. In general I think the availability of healthier food around the park has improved. It was good to see fruit pots and more water available.

Nemesis ERS was as fab as ever. Paul, full of boundless energy, kept running around for more. Did everyone enjoy his flashing glow wire creations?

On Saturday night there was a surprise party for Harry Ross at Peakstones.
Loopathon was Harry's final club trip before he joins the Navy to train as an aeronautical engineer.
There were sailor hats a-go-go at Peakstones, and Harry had such a good time he didn't make it to Drayton!!

We were late ourselves having decided on a leisurely start to the wet day.
After much faffing around, due to being sent to the wrong car park, and then confusion over tickets, we found the piles supervised by Mary Knight, (thanks Mary) and headed into the park.

What can I say about Thomas Land?

It's stunning and a real credit to Drayton. There are young children in our family and we're going to recommend it to their parents.
The theming is first class, and I hope it stays up to this standard.
The new coaster Troublesome Trucks, is superb. Even a bit of AIRtime.

It was Paul's first visit to Drayton, so we tried to fit in a bit of everything. He particularly enjoyed Shockwave (strange man).

After a spectacular lunch (what a spread, I particularly enjoyed the olive and feta bruschetta) we had a little wander around the zoo area, having caught the train from Thomas Lane (Percy).
It was the first time I'd been around there, and we enjoyed it very much, particularly the marmosets and the grey owl, who followed us with his head.

Linda (Stormforce) brought three friends from work along, and they enjoyed the trip very much, so fingers crossed that's another three members recruited.

It was great to see everyone, and meet new people, too.

So, see you all at Thorpe or Blackpool, whichever comes sooner.

We had an excellent day at Alton, probably one of the best ever. We managed to do a lot of riding and have many laughs on the way round. I think Hayley is still a little freked by Simons mask!! Sorry Ad but the Log Flume has excellent. I've never seen you look so hacked off after one ride.

Battle Galleons was superb! It was so good we had three goes round. Myself and Andy took great pleasure in soaking one family person by person in the queue line.

The Nemesis ERS was top notch, and Hayley even stayed on for about 6/7 goes. I don't think the weather spoilt at all for us, if anything made it absolutely fly.

Thanks for a great day Andy, Rach, Adam, Kelly and Simon. Oh and a little bit of Lee.

My first Loopathon and what a blast it was from start to finish. The fun, general banter, Kareoke evenings and 'family atmosphere' at Peakstones greatly added to my Loopy experience. A warm welcome goes out to trip newbies Steve, Sarah and Ayesha.

This was not only my first Loopathon, but the first time I have ever been to Alton or Drayton. I really enjoyed Alton Towers as it has a nice mixture of thrill rides, general attractions and scenery scattered around the park, which is always a nice thing. Drayton Manor was also great.

Apparently later that morning word had spread that I had declined Spinball Whizzer - this was duly rectified later that day. For the most part, lack of huge crowds and single rider queues meant our largish group got on most rides relatively quickly. Air was very enjoyable but even making use of the single rider queue meant we spent ages waiting to get on - thanks go to Andy for handing out fruit pastels.

Rita was fun to ride and it was nice to once again experience a launch style coaster. I also got my first and last ride on corkscrew. Late afternoon we took a ride on Congo River Rapids. I came off virtually dry but another in our party seemed to have a knack of attracting gallons of water - yes Ali, that's you!

Although many of us never took up the Alton lunch offer, we drifted by towards the end to catch-up with others and have a chat. Many of us thought if Heather had collected just a few more balloons she could have floated around the park taking in some great views. Next time heather, next time.

The late evening ERS on Nemesis was fantastic. I managed to fit in at least 7 rides in total, with the front seat experience greatly adding to the overall ride, despite it feeling a little rougher than at other places on the ride.

And so on to Drayton Manor . . .

It's here that I finally sampled the type of rides that until now I had stayed clear of - drop towers and non-coaster spiny things. I rode seated and floorless on Apocalypse and had several goes on Maelstrom. To all those that said Maelstrom was a great fun ride and that I'd grow to really like it - your all so right. It feels great to finally have taken on some of those rides that until now had worried me.

For me, swinging around on top of the Big Wheel whilst others departed was one of those moments that left me feeling a little queasy. The thrill rides are so much easier to take on!

Shockwave was ok but I preferred riding Mantis. Similarly I thought Hex was much better than Haunted House. After hearing other's opinions on G-Force I expected it to be more than a little rough, but for me it wasn't that bad. When the ride was over my only thought was 'is that it?' as it was over all too quickly.

So, another fantastic club trip comes to an end. Thanks to Nev and all those that help with club events, all those that made the two days so enjoyable, and to Drayton for their wonderful and very generous lunch time buffet which was excellent.

Had a great day Saturday (didn't do DM)! A respectable 35 rides in all, including first times on Rita and Spinball; both of which were better than expected. Oblivion I could do all day long...Hex is just as impressive as ever; a great use of the towers.

Was really happy to meet some great people and fellow nerds...er...enthusiasts: Lee Bennett, Adam (nice guy for a Baggies fan Smile

, Spinner etc...and everyone else whose names I don't remember.

Only thing that disappointed me was the lack of veggie options for lunch (apparently still quite poor). Appreciate we're the minority but surely it's not that hard and if the club wants to attract the ethnic minorities (i.e. Muslim Halal restrictions and Hindu Veggie restrictions, obviously veggie option will satisfy. I did go off to BK (who didn't have one veggie option in stock!), but moreover, it disrupts the social occassion of sitting down together...

Hat's off to Nev again for organising another great trip. Cheers mate. Much appreciated!

Frosty - well done for overcoming your fears; I bottled Apocalypse last month and regretting not having faced it!

another great loopathon comes to an end.friday afternoon we pitched the tent then had a walk to the hex tree had a nice meal in the local pub then back to the tent for a early night. sat morning ers on oblivion was great(i do like that ride) shame we missed rita because some alton towers staff said it wasent opening till 10, then we did some of the more family rides(we had are little girl katelyn with us) we didnt have the alton buffet instead we had kfc then did the battle galleon ride and got soaked. the dark ers on nemesis was great, then back to the tent for another early night. sunday morning up at 6 packed the tent away and made are way to a very wet drayton manor the ers on apocalypse was fun (only did sit down ) had a nice breakfast in the cafe then went to thomas land this area of drayton is fantastic we could not drag katelyn away from thomas land the theming is exellent .the drayton buffet was great again (shame they had none of them yummy cakes)we managed most rides in the afternoon,the ers on G -force was ok the ride felt a bit rougher than lasts years ers, then we had the end of season send of. what a great weekend cheers andy looking forward to next years trips.

Alton was a good comeback, as I havent been there for a while. The Nemesis ERS was awesome, the trains were flying.

Sunday started a little damp, but I am very Impressed with Thomas land, it was like going back to my childhood.
G-Force hurt, so I only did two rides on it.

Roll on Thorpe Park.

What a great trip!!
I think this was one of the best trips I've been on!

It started on Friday night when Dan and I arrived at Peakstones and had a great night chatting away to people and watching people do karoke! The best was when Rich sang Bob The Builder...well I say sang..hehe Very Happy

Thanks to everyone at Peakstones who made it such a fun evening!! (Chris, Kelly, Simon, Dan, Rich, Jess, Haz etc. etc.)

The we all woke up bright and early to a great breakfast and a few laugh about our new theme park 'Garterland'!
Got to Alton and had a couple of rides on Oblivion n then went over to Rita.
We then went around the park, enjoyed the free cups of tea and biscuits in the Hospitality suite. We got rides on Corkscrew and Beastie before they go so that was good! Had a good day riding what we wanted to and had a good laugh despite the weather! I then had 11 rides on Nemisis which was really great, even if I felt a bit ill afterwards! Then we headed back to Peakstones which we stayed for Haz's 'leaving doo' for a bit before heading to bed.

Sunday started off with another great breakfast and a few more laughs!
We then set off for Drayton where we watched people go on Apocolypse and had a bit of a photo session under cover! We then headed over to Thomas Land, which in my opinion, was brilliant!!!!!!!! I really enjoyed everything in there and even got very excited when we met The Fat Controller!!!! Was really fun! We then headed around the park and got a few rids in before lunch, which was really nice!! Then as the sun came out the afternoon was really good and a good laugh, we got a few more rides in, went to the zoo and back to Thomas Land before the ERS. The ERS was great again, had some good rides!

Was great to see everyone and had a good laugh over the weekend!

What a BRILL day, even tho it was particularly warm or dry! lol

The Loopathon started early for us as we travelled "up-country" from Cornwall at midnight on Wednesday and arrived at A.T. at 06.00am Thursday.
On the Friday morning, I got a message from Dave Perry saying that the BBC were after coaster people to do an interview for BBC Midlands Today (6.30pm Friday) regarding the demise of the Corkscrew. The upshot was that we met the BBC team by the Corkscrew at 11.00am, and they filmed a short item for the programme. Later, however, they wanted to do another piece in the Towers Hotel, which was to go out live that evening (scary!!)
We were allowed to sit in the galleon in the hotel foyer to do this (had to fight off loads of kids as they thought it had been opened for them !!) Laura, the interviewer from BBC Radio Stoke was less calm than we were -- she was absolutely shaking, but we all manged to get through it.
Later, we heard about the sarky comments about our talk (from other coaster groups) but a blind man on galloping horse knew perfectly well that our comments about wanting a woodie were for the ears of the A.T. bosses, to make them aware of how keen we are to have one. How dorky and puerile can these people be?? We were highlighting the lack of a woodie for the benefit of ALL coaster riders -- wherever they were from. I think it must have been a case of 'sour grapes' that these people hadn't managed to do the interview in our place. Tough !!
Other than that, we had a great time, in spite of the wet weather, and met up with all our club friends for a good laugh, which is what it's all about -- isn't it??

Missed Alton again this year due to other commitments but definately doing it next year, so on Sunday morning arrived at a damp Drayton Manor with the family. First thing we noticed was a nicely refurbished events room. Took advantage of the free tea and squash before wrapping up warmly and heading off for the Apocalypse ERS....always great fun and certainly wakes you up. I prefer the standing up with a floor option as I feel it gives you a greater dropping feeling so concentrated on that apart from when Amy wanted me to do the stand up no floor to take a picture! It was a great view from up there and also great fun chasing the raindrops down!
From there it was over to Thomas Land and waiting in the queue with other happy members (you all know who you are) for Troublesome Trucks to open. The crowd were entertained by Cara (my 4 year old daughter) challenging Amy to balance on 1 leg, needless to say that others (Dan and Bunnie) kept giving Amy a little push. Then the Trucks opened and it was onto the first wet bum of the day for the first ride. It was a nice little coaster that I enjoyed and Cara loved. From there it was the airplane ride (long ride, good sound effects), then Cranky's drop tower (fun), Helicopters (OK), Boat (OK), waving at the Fat Controller, Diesels mayhem (similar to Car's Rallye in Disney Studios Paris but not as quick..still fun), then with my wife, Claire and Marco (my 18 month old son) Cara did Lady's carousel...strange ride, followed by Bertie's bus with Claire and the Classic cars with Claire and Marco. All in all we had fun in that area, a great addition to the park, hopefully they will keep it looking nice and not let it get tatty. Then it was Maelstrom for me (I love that ride) beofre heading for a warm up and lunch. Lunch was great again but NO LEGENDARY PUDS! Also thanks to Drayton for the free wine and beer, a nice gesture. It was then out for an afternoon of riding in the better weather....by the end the sun was shining in a blue sky.
The ERS on G-Force was uncomfortable, only did 2 rides, the lap bars are just too tight across the stomach and don't allow you to breathe...I'll just have to lose weight before next year.
We then had 2 very tired and grumpy children so didn't wait until the end sing song which was a shame.
Sorry I didn't manage to say goodbye to Bunnie, Andy, Adam, Jess and Smiler.......see you all again on the next trip.

Thanks Andy for once again organising a great year of coastering even under difficult personal circumstances. We all appreciate the hard work you put in and for allowing us to have so much fun even in the crappy weather!

See you all again on the next trip (Thorpe or Blackpool) for a great 2009 of riding

Another Loopathon and one of the best despite the weather. It took me 2 hrs to drive up from Oxford on saturday morning and soon it was on to Oblivion. Despite the breakdowns I managed 3 rides, I couldn't manage any more as that mist was too cold! We headed over to Spinball Whizzer and then out of the rain for a coffee. Next we headed over to the mine train and the haunted house (a favourite ride of the day) before a ride on Air and the rapids. Next was lunch, now I've always thought the Alton Buffet was pretty good in previous years with a nice selection of food and some nice cakey things for pudding but this years was rubbish and the both the cakes available for afters had nuts in so I couldn't eat them. In the afternoon me and Carol headed around other rides including the corkscrew (ouch!), rita, hex and the Log Flume. Not being a fan of being cold and wet Carol had never done the log flume before. It's a fair assumption that she won't be doing it again! Soon it was ERS time and Nemisis was fantastic I think I managed about 13 rides - it was almost on a par with Magnum force - and so good I didn't mind the added water effects.
After a horrible journey from Alton to my B&B and the B&B to Drayton (old cars with bad headlights + darkness and heavy rain don't go together very well) I arrived at Drayton in a monsoon. I managed 2 goes on floorless stand up during the ERS on Apocalypse and for the first time in years it didn't scare me silly. Next it was off to Thomas Land and I finally got to explore Thomas Land in depth. The whole area was brilliant. I especially liked the crazy twisting diesel ride. In the afternoon I headed round with Mary, Andy, Adam, Jess and Bunnie and took the train to the Zoo (for the first time ever!) tried out more rides in Thomas Land and Andy found out that Storm force 10 is less wet than the Pirate Adventure! I managed 3 rides on Geforce during the ERS (front seat - Arrgh i'm going to fall out, middle seat - Yay, rear seat - Squished!) and then it was time for the end of season goodbyes and an un eventful journey home.

Just to add to al that has been said. I don't need to say how good the day was because so many have asaid so. I will say I only did Drayton part as it was more for the children than us this year.
Even though it rained in the morning , by george it did, the kids where shivering and cold they loved it.
Charlotte-Emily final got her ride on Draytons new coaster Troublesome Trucks. I like this kiddy coaster it is so much fun and Thomas doe's to riding on it with hands in the air.
The day brightened up in the afternoon after what was a good buffet there was a lot to go around for us all I think.
It was also nice to meet so many people that we now from the club.
I also managed to ride G Force more than before as I am not a huge fan of the ride itself but on this day I enjoyed the ride strange very strange.
I will thank all for organizing the trip and look forward to 2009 for our next trip.

As usual had a fantatstic time meeting old (too many too mention) and new faces and just having a very good time at the parks.

It was a a good trip for me (even if i was doing the saturday at alton towers which is the first time ever since being a member). I got to AT and got on the monrail (as it was open) to the entrance. At the entrance i got my wristband and said hello to a few people that were there and then walked over to oblivion with the members i met at the gate. I didnt do any rides on oblivion in the e.r.s ( Shocked

) but did get a couple of rides on rita (!) during that e.r.s .On the way to the e.r.s i picked up my "your day" wristband as i like the idea of having the dvd as a a souvenir of the day. After a mornings worth of riding rita , spinball whizzer and the cable car a couple of times it was time to go to lunch (which was a bit of a let down but at least there was something there). After lunch i went to the "your day" counter as i had been told i could see what rides i had been filmed on or needed to do again. I had been already filmed on rita , air and corkscrew which was great. After lunch i split up from the group i was with in the morning so i could do the rides i needed to do (nemesis , oblivion and spinball whizzer - this i did after the lunch in the single riders queue). After I had done the 6 coasters i needed to do i went and goy my dvd. I was well chuffed when i found out i had 20% off the price which was a very good deal.
Next was hex then a catch up with the members of the group i was with in the morning. Another couple of rides then it was time for some quick shopping then onto nemesis for the e.r.s on which i got 3 goes which was fine for me.
After nemesis it was time to sat goodbye and head home ! Crying or Very sad

I've finally managed to upload the pictures I took last weekend.

I've been struggling with Sciatica since Monday and cannot sit down in front of the PC alhough i'm getting better each day.

Glad to see you all had such a wonderful time at the Loopathon this year. My first ever Loopathon was in 2005, but I did Alton Towers only that year. Not only was that my first ever Loopathon, it was my first ever visit to Alton Towers. It was the same for my last Loopathon in 2006: Alton Towers only. I've never been to Loopathon Drayton Manor, in fact I've never been to Drayton Manor at all.

For various reasons I decided not to attend either day of Loopathon for the second year running. I must admit that, during Loopathon weekend, I felt I was missing out, but then again, from my experience of attending Loopathon AT 2005 and 2006, and Blackpool Bash 2008, I think Blackpool Bash is better from a practicality point of view. Having attended and thorougly enjoyed Blackpool Bash and Summer Bash this year, I felt it would be best to give both days of Loopathon a miss.

What exactly is Maelstrom like? From what I can gather of the info on the Drayton Manor web site, it sounds a rather boisterous ride to me. How re-ridable is it? By that I mean how many times can you ride it without feeling sick? At this year's Summer Bash at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach I managed eight goes on Roller Coaster during the ERS no problem, but if I'd tried eight on Disko, I'd probably have been sick. One at a time on Disko was enough for me.

I hope to see you all at next year's Blackpool Bash.

Maelstrom is great! I did 5 rides in a row and only stopped because it was time for the ERS on G-Force.

I only managed to attend Alton Towers at Loopathon 2008, I was supposed to be coming to Drayton Manor but unfortunately the weather was so bad I decided to go straight home.

It was a great day despite the weather on the Saturday.

The Oblivion and Nemesis ERS's were brilliant.

I rode Air for the first time and it has become a favourite now.

I went on many other rides including the Blade, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride, Spinball Wizzer and Hex which was quite different from any other ride I have been on.
