According to news on the BBC website five people have been taken to hospital after a fairground ride collapsed in Long Melford, Suffolk.
One person has suffered serious spinal injuries after the "Hellraiser" attraction collapsed shortly before 9pm this evening. _________________ Rachel

According to All the Fun of the Fair's web database there are 4 Waltzers, 2 Matterhorns, 1 Twist and 1 Ghost Train called "Hell Raiser" see

My suspicion is that it is one of the Matterhorns or the Twist involved as my feeling is that they are more highly stressed and hence more likely to suffer a more catasrophic failure. I don't recognise any of the owner names so don't know which area they travel to speculate further as to which ride was involved.
My thoughts go out to those injured or affected by this very rare accident - seem to recall there was an accident in the Seventies when a twist car came off at a bonfire event in Portsmouth but other than that can't think of another major accident involving any of these types of ride.
Last minute edit - looks like it's Shufflebottom's Matterhorn

It was one of the Matterhorns that was involved.
It is the one that has not got the name written on its central bar |

News this morning seems to indicate that the ride may have either come off the rail or there was a problem with the central hinges.
Circumstances are being treated as suspicious as the police have preserved the area as a crime scene. _________________ Rachel
