Well campers, your camp coordinating team have been in touch with Oakwood, and we're ready to go.
There have been changes to the camp team this year.
After three years working as the on-site camp liaison Carl May aka Wildmouse has stepped down as he is extremely busy with his career, which is finally taking off. Congratulations Carl, can we all have tickets to the BAFTAS when you get one.
Ian Gulliver aka Auntie Murial, is taking on Carl's role this year. He will also be running the camp list as I'm going to Kenya. He's already gathering the names together and we have 39 registered campers.
Remember, if you want to join in the fun and camp in the most basic conditions you will need to email your full name, and the full name of every person in your party, as you will not get in if security don't have this information.
I'll be helping Ian before I jet off to the southern hemisphere. And Andy S aka Jester and family will be helping him out at Oakwood.
The deadline for booking is Tuesday, August 5.
Email your details to rccgbcamp@googlemail.com .
Any new people who are interested in camping, feel free to email us or leave your questions here. _________________ Sarah

We'll be camping again as usual, its the only way to experience Oakwood. Nothing like a light brezze blowing the spray off of Hydro! _________________ Steve

For anyone who hasn't done Camp Oakwood I can highly recommend it. It's a fantasticly intents experience that is highly social and enormous fun. While we don't all conregrate around a solitary camp fire, there's too many of us, there are groups dotted around the field enjoying a social drink around a barbie, lots of friendly banter, the odd spot of football and the occasional game of hot burger juggling.
Lots of families partake in the experience so don't feel it's just for the younger club members.
It is worth pointing out that facilities are basic. No showers or toilets in the field. The toilet facilities are those found in the park, just a short walk from the camping field. The park allows us access to them, even over night, but under strict trust that no one will go roaming around the park without buying an entry ticket and certainly not during the night. The Camp organisers will give me details on this.
Camping has never been my thing and I've always felt I've missed out on the whole Oakwood experience by staying in a B&B. Last year I bit the bullet and slummed in a tent and ended up loving it. So for anyone contemplating it I say go for it, you'll love it. _________________ Marcus

The great thing about camping also is you get to meet and socialise with people in groups who you've maybe never met before. Oakwood is how we became friends with most of ours.
Theres always a few people floating around who will help put up tents and point you in the direction of the shower block..... _________________ Steve

Or rain if it's anything like 2005!!
If you forget anything there's always Tesco Extra at Carmarthen, if you forget something.
Last year I forgot the inflatable mattress. Ryan always forgets his metal barbecue implements. _________________ Sarah

YES!
I can certainly NOT recommend using plastic knives and forks for cooking on the bbq................Hmm! trying to turn over or pick up a burger with a fork that has all the prongs melted and curled up is not easy....unless you like the taste of melted plastic in your food

Another BBQ tip is not to let Dan light a disposable BBQ whilst it is still in the the cardboard wrapper....Myth Busters carried out a test and found they couldn't bust the myth...IT WILL GO ON FIRE!!!!!!!!! _________________ RCCGB Mem no 948

Anyone who's not gone before and who enjoys star gazing may like to know in past years the camp has co-incided with a meteor shower so provided it's not cloudy there's been great views of shooting stars streaking above Hydro. One memorable year there were ooo's and arr's from all over the field.... _________________ Rowan S.

It's Friday and Saturday nights.
I think in previous years we have been able to get on the field from 2pm on Friday _________________ Rachel

I'm now really looking forward to my first camping experience, although I may get there sometime in the evening rather than mid-afternoon as planned.
Still, as long as the tent is up before darkness decends (one reason I may go for a quick-draw rather than something a little more elaborate). _________________ Steve

Cue Tumbleweed
I have the whole friday off, so, in therory, should get to the park a lot earlier in the day, due to not having the Welsh rush hour traffic all the way from Newport to Port Talbot. _________________ Don't look at me, I'm just Human

I note that there are names on the Camping list who have yet to book the trip itself!
Please try and send your bookings before the weekend.
