Taken from the towers nerd website on to what one of the new rides will be for next year.

http://www.towersnerd.com/newsitem.php?id=242

Does look good for the park but so much for the tidal wave type ride they said they were going to get see what other new ride they put in.

It seems like an extension of the Splash Karts really, so not overly impressive. I guess it will be a pay attraction.

Maybe the Tidal Wave ride is going to come in next ear, they did say on our tour no major attractions are being put in this year.

I doubt the Splash Battle will be pay extra, although the fact they have low throughputs is a bad sign. I'm wondering if they'll be getting one from Mack rather than from Preston Barberi simply because Mack have supplied one to Legoland Denmark (or Germany) and the Merlin Execs recently spent time at the Mack factory. I also wonder if they Shoot the Chutes will be a Mack Supersplash, and that Merlin signed a double ride deal.

In any case Splash Battles do look good, but surely far to wet for the North of the UK and far too low throughput for such a large theme park.

Incidentally Flamingoland added a Preston Barberi Splash Battle this year.

Splash battle seems like a strange choice for Alton. As said the throughput is poor and it is too wet a ride for the area, but then so is Valhalla Laughing

Bring back the swanboats Very Happy

I perosnally think that it would be a welcome addition to the park, there are not alot of family attractions at the park, most people just want bigger and better, but from a investment point of view i feel it will benefit them, especially as they are now a " resort "

Seems some more news has come out about the new Pirate Themed area. The Tea Cups are being themed to a barrel ride, not sure where they got that idea from! Laughing

I read something interesting on another site saying about moving Blade to the Pirate area. Now this to me would make a lot of sense and replace it with something else in FV. I'm sure it was rumoured some while back that they would put a Huss Frisbee in the old Thunder Looper trench? All rumours and will be exciting to see how Merlins first attempt at a new land will pay off.

It would make more sense to have the blade in the new themed area and have a new flat ride with a bit more intensity to it in the x sector area.

Whilst on park today we noticed that the work to convert the splash karts pond is moving ahead nicely. A lot of heavy duty machinery is working to get the area prepared for the foundations to go in for the ride

Is the bottom of the lake being lined so the water isn't a groggy colour?

They are not that far on at the moment as it is just all what looks like wet clay at the moment.

I have not heard anything about if they are or not though

I should think that the bottom of the lake will be done beings the water will be sprayed on to you and soaking you. Imaging if people came ill due to the water being so dirty like the log flumes or the rapids. Flamingo land was built a fresh so theres was nice and clean. Dosent that part of the lake used to share with the other main lake?

All the lakes and ponds at Alton Towers share with one another as far as I am aware.

I am sure they said on a behind the scenes tour that the water starts off at the top at the rapids then filters its way down to the bottom before they send it off to be treated by the local water company

I have just read about the following strict conditions placed upon alton towers with regards the battle galleons ride

- The Restoration of the exterior of the conservatory in the ruins must be completed within 5 years.
- Roofing and facing samples must be approved prior to work starting.
- Materials such as fencing, lighting and paving, as well as the exterior finish of all buildings including the station and info kiosks, must be agreed upon by the council.
- Details of flagpoles, presumably theming, that will be attached to the courtyard must be provided.

The second new ride for Alton this year is the rocking tug like the one at drayton manor. All the footers and some strcucture is now in place for splash battle works is really moving at a pace. They say that the cost of the whole project is £6 million so Rita cost £8 million so muxt be very good themeing. Theres going to be 2 new themed room in the hotels and load of entertainment in the new area to.

A Rockin' Tug for AT? Whatever next? I do like the sound of the Splash Battle though. I think the one at Flamingoland is pretty popular, even if the weather up there, like most of the time at Alton is'nt as good as the parks.

Work looks like it is coming on swimingly, the theming looks amazing in my opinion, and looks like a little magic is coming back to Alton Towers!  What does everybody else think?

Here's the link to Towers Almanac and a construction picture update http://gallery.towersalmanac.com/thumbnails.php?album=502 .

Wow! If the rest of the area is anything like the Pirate Ship we could be in for a treat with this. Lets hope they translate this effort into all of the future projects at the rest of the parks.

Would be great if for one season they could just spend the entire years budget on theming for the entire park, new paint to freshen up certain areas, replace lights and smoke machines, fix the jumping fountains and other little things aswell.  Then replace the monorail trains and skyride gondolas.
Then retheme ugland!

I feel as if i am writing to Santa.

They do spend a budget on improving current rides and areas, I guess its just a case of whats going to make a difference. As for the monorail I don't see the worth in replacing it, its such a small part of your day if used at all and I doubt many people notice that much.

I love the monorail and its the only reason i go to Alton Towers. I have sat on that thing for 12 consecutive weeks. Forwards and backwards, forwards and backwards etc. I had heard rumours it was going to get an inversion, but i dont think this will happen  Twisted Evil  Laughing

Seriuosly though, the new splashy battley thingy looks OK but i dnt really like water rides that much so not to fussed in all honesty  Surprised

WGH would appear to be the company carrying out the retheme to the tea cups. I don't know much about this company except they did the work on the boats for the log flume. I've no idea if they are carrying out the work to some one elses designs or if they are the actual design company.

WGH, I thought I recognised that name. They have built a few coasters in this country, Dragon and Dragons Apprentice at Legoland, The Green Dragon at Greenwood, Spook Express at Joyland and the Jellikins at Fantasy Island. Merlin must be please with the work they have done for them so far then.

Its funny actually I've been on 4 out of the 5 of them!

http://www.towersnerd.com/

Towers nerd has posted some cloused season pictures of the sky ride being worked on and a updated of the splash battle area and some news of the area being done. Seems like the area is being takeing over by a pirate and they have just stck signs over a few things. Lets see if its worth the £8 million like they said.

Well went along to the opening day of the half term and the ride looks tiny. Its running on logflume style trofts and not on tracks like flamingo lands. The themeing looks to be coming along but you have well over half the lake not being used by the looks of it. A massive station is also been built and a few odd and sods there but thats it. The place is still a massive building site just over a mounth to go better get there skates on. Couldent get any construction pictures as there is a massive area shut off at the park casue of it.

Taken From Towers Times

This could sway rich to go to alton lol

March 15th brings the first day of the 2008 open season, and will also see the unveiling and opening of their brand new Pirate themed land, Mutiny Bay. March 15th will also see the attempt at setting a new World Record for the largest gathering of Pirates, and they need your help to do it!

All you need to do is come dressed as a Pirate, and the first 1200 Pirates to land at the gate will be granted half price entry*.

To register your interest in taking part in this World Record attempt, visit http://www.altontowersworldrecord.com/ and you will be sent the secret plans for the attempt

So Europa Park went for the most Santas record and let anyone in a Santa cosutme in for free. Alton Towers do a most pirates day and they're only willing to give you half price entry. Even at half price they are pretty much the same price to get in as Europa.

Seeing as this is a massive publicity stunt for the park that'll get them loads of media attention you'd think they'd let people in for free. After all they'd still make a fortune from parking, over priced food, over priced photos etc. Plus free entry would probably attract lots of extras guests. Bet the money they lose on free entry would still be cheaper than what Drayton Manor pay on celebs to open their new rides.

Just saw this on central news and does look fun. The boats are standing and can hold looks like 6 per boat. The themeing does look great but dont take up the whole of the lake tho very strange. May be the first on there tomos who knows
