Another weekend, another trip away.
We started off on Sunday heading up to Adventure Island in Southend to try out Rage for the first time. Driving into Southend you wouldn't believe the amount of people around. Who ever said that all seaside resorts are dead should have gone there yesterday! We eneded up parking a good 20 minute walk from Adventure Island and had a good walk along the front.
Adventure Island was the same and probably made a massive profit. The rides were all busy and you just couldn't move for people. We both really enjoyed Rage and felt it was a great ride to have at the park. It was very fast and enjoyable for a compact little ride. The over 90 degree drop really works on this and really throws you out of your seat. These Eurofighters sure are comfortable to. We did a few of the other rides, but left arounbd 4 as it was just to busy.
We decided as it was so close to try out Clacton Pier. It was about another 30 miles but with two coaster it was too good an oppurtunity to miss!! They have the Speedy Gonzales which is basically a Big Apple with a different theme. This was pretty naff and in need of a lick of paint.
Then the Go Gator! The same as the one at Coney Beach just with a max 1.4m height restriction (Well below even Hayley). But she worked her magic and talked the ride manager in to giving us a go. So if your over that way just ask nicely and the will probably oblige.
A good day out on what was a brilliant day for weather with 3 new coasters!! _________________ Steve

Nice trip report Steve, glad to hear you had a good time ! I'm a fan of Rage too its a great coaster, so many thrills packed into such a small space !
Its also good news that the park and town are thriving, its always been busy when i've been on my visits to the park ! _________________ Dink dank doo !! |

Its just shows that with the right investment in the town then it will flourish. The seafront as a whole looks really great and is very clean.
Not so with Clacton I'm affraid. It was a bit like Hastings and had seen better days. Its sucha big pier and could have the makings to be a good one, but there doesn't seem to be enough support attractions along the front. _________________ Steve

I uploaded a couple on Coaster Fanatics of just the coasters. I think you can see them by clicking on the ride list below. _________________ Steve

We will be down London way in about 5 weeks so we will go and give Rage a try.
I have never been to adventure Island before but as I love Speed I thought it only right to see what their Eurofighter is like. _________________

I must admit that I found Rage a little tame towards its name. This is not saying it is a bad ride because it fits in so well with the park. I must say I have not done Speed at Oakwood, the reason being the kids really are not good to drive 4 hours plus to ride a coaster that is that far away. I await Thorpe Parks in 2009. I cannot compare them both. But I found Rage better than Typhoon which really gave me a headache. _________________ El Toro My 200th coaster and first USA coaster (Also member of roll back club on TTD 2)
